Comfortable clean room in historic building. There's nothing especially great about the room, equally there was nothing wrong with it and I have no complaints whatsoever. The building is a heritage historic building with lots of original features, which for me made it a very interesting place to stay. Its very well located for Nanjing Road, Renmin Park and the... Nice place to stay, clean and organized, staff don't speak flaunt English but they are trying to manage, location wise is perfect as it's in people's square (downtown) and in the front of it metro entrance so you can easily go to any location.

Our MBA group from Niels Brock/Middlesex university stayed at this hotel for 1 week during October 2015. The hotel looks like a 1st class hotel from the outside and I guess it must have been years ago. The room I stayed at was dark and smelled old, the cleaning was so so. The breakfast was less than ordinary, a little... More

The hotel is old. I was in town for few days so I really liked the location and access to the airport. Receptionists were not were polite, I had a feeling that I was bothering them from time to time. Overall, good choice of you are in the city for few nights and can manage in clean but older room...

Old hotel in a great location. But only location was great. Facilities really poor, dirty room definitively needs renovation. Cigarette smell all over. Had a cockroach in my room!! Staff not really helpful. Overpriced. Do not recommend.

Although an old hotel, it was surprisingly good. The elevators although small, worked quietly but efficiently. The rooms were large by today's standard. It was clean. Heating works as with the hot water. Plumbing was okay also. Only a few things stood out negatively though. First, it was the two flights of stairs needed to be negotiated to reach the... More

First, the positives: the Pacific Hotel is one of Shanghai's originals. It dates back to the roaring 1920s and is a museum piece of substantial architecture which evokes that singular era in Shanghai's go-go history. It's in a great location across from Peoples Park, just past the pedestrian portion of Nanjing Street, and across from a major subway station (including... More

This hotel is not bad, but its not good - the place could use some sprucing up. This said, I would rate it better than the nearby Park Hotel. The state of this hotel is a shame given its excellent location, and interesting architecture. The rooms appear to have been last renovated in the 90s, thought my bathroom did have... More

Everything is very old, but personally I didn't mind since it was impressive to experience that feeling of the colonial times. Rooms are well equipped, not modern but large and comfortable. Staff doesn't speak English well at all, but after some complications they calld us a cab anyways.

Staying in People’s Square

Neighborhood Profile
People’s Square
People’s Square brings with it all the excitement you would expect from the town square of one of the biggest cities in the world. The area around People’s Square and People’s Park is always a abuzz with activity. Oceans of local and foreign tourists flow in and out of the area every day to see grand museums, go shopping and eat at some of Shanghai’s most storied food centers. Shanghai residents, meanwhile, live and work in the many residential and office high-rises. While much of Shanghai stays busy late into the night, this really is an area that never sleeps with glitzy nightclubs keeping people up until the wee hours of the morning.
