Had a layover at PVG so we decided to stay a night in Shanghai. Price was higher than expected - was not informed of the additional charges - taxes etc even at the concierge, only the final price. As tourists, we didn't feel like they took the initiative to explain much to us. Indicated special occasion (birthday) but nothing was prepared as well. Check-in and checkout service could be improved. No service staff attended to us for assistance with our baggage upon entry to hotel. Facilities are great- Gym is decently sized for a hotel. Had a small lap pool, jacuzzi and tennis court as well. For the premium price paid, I'd think we could have found alternatives elsewhere.

Hotel's Favorite
We had a wonderful and memorable staycation week at the Pudong Shangri-la on the occasion of my birthday. We tried a Grand Tower Horizon Club Room for a change. The daily benefits and the service are remarkable. Club manager Kenny and Penny and their team with Ciel, Chloe, Joy, Aron and their colleagues did a great job from check-in throughout departure. DOR Julia and RM John were very instrumental in assigning an appropriate suite for this special occasion. Much to my surprise, I received an amazing gift on my special day in form of a delicious birthday cake and a beautiful floral arrangement. Restaurant reservation with special table was also prearranged. Y-Cafe offers an outstanding variety, quality and service of different ethnic food. Chefs Akshay, Fadi, Jin Hong and Hugo deserve my personal respect for their professional attitude and wonderful cooking skills. Executive Chef Olivier and restaurant manager John will make sure you feel comfortable and content. Thanks to all of you for the many nice dishes you created and perfectly served. All in all, awesome service best quality. We will be back soon, definetly before my next birthday !!

The hotel service is ok but the catering service is far from satisfactory. The breakfast Cafe was very noisy with the sound coming out from throwing of dishes...(the waiters didn't care at all!) The waiters didn't wear a mask and this is not hygienic especially they were handling food.

As a Golden Circle member who frequents Shangri- la for all my business trips,from Penang Singapore to Guangzhou, Shenzhen to Hong Kong to Shanghai. Kenny goes ABOVE and BEYOND to ensure I feel safe and at home immediately upon arrival in Shanghai. Coming to Shanghai's Shangri-la makes me feel assured and safe, knowing that all is well and good. Upon check-in, Kenny takes extra notice of my arrival time, preferences, whether or not this time it's a business or personal trip, and since it was a personal trip this time around, he made extra sure my child feels welcome and is well taken care of. Will definitely keep recommending Shangri-la Shanghai to my family, friends and colleagues, may it be for leisure or business. Having a team member like Kenny, is definitely one of Shangri-la's greatest assets.

Aidan was a kind and patient guide for our day trip to Hangzhou. We took multiple train rides which he organised tickets for and then toured the Westlake area, he had good local information and took great care of us for the entire day. Thanks Aidan :)

I have stayed in a lot of Shangrila hotels and in various places. This was the first time I was not a Jade member and the difference was visible. The check in process was long and the check out super long. I think in Shanghai queuing is not respected and people cut queues easily. The line for breakfast was so long and it felt like you are in a food court. No personalised service and not even a standard question on whether you would like tea or coffee. Vegetarian options for hot food almost non existent: language in the hotel was a barrier even at concierge and breakfast area. One of the most unimpressive stays in a shangrila property. The view was fantastic though and the room was neat and clean and big.

The front desk lady named - 馬倩 is wonderful!! It’s a raining day, so my daughter and I wanted to swim, but we couldn’t because we must wear swimming cap to able to. But I had no idea where to get it or how to get it. So we went to 4F kids zone instead. And I told 馬倩 about the situation so she was very nice and friendly to show me step by step how to buy it online.. 20 minutes later I got swimming caps delivered!! She solved my problem!!! Room: Grand Tower Horizon Club Grand Bund Room I travelled with my husband for his business trip, and I remained at the hotel for a week just living off food from the hotel. Firstly, there’s the Rivera Tower and Grand Tower. I believe the Grand Tower is newer, but the Rivera Tower has an unobstructed view of the Bund. Horizon club access is generally an extra 580 rmb added to your room per day tax included. Horizon club access comes with: - [ ] 1000 rmb credit for Chi spa or the French restaurant (36 on the Bund) - [ ] Breakfast buffet + unlimited a la carte orders (6:30-10:30am) with fresh squeezed fruit juice if you order directly through the waiters. Only morning juices are fresh. If you pick up the juice in the afternoon, it's normal fruit juice that's very sweet. There is a choice of: vegetable juice, honeydew, grapefruit and orange juice in the fridge. There’s also a choice of egg selections, pancakes, Chinese breakfast, etc… - [ ] They also have afternoon tea and happy hour - [ ] Afternoon tea doesn’t have too many choices that I can choose from except peanut butter sandwich, and some cakes. They also have smoked salmon sandwich and bun with salami, and various fruits are provided. - [ ] Dinner - quite standard - seasonal vegetables, pasta, fried dish, shrimp samosas, fried rice, dumplings, chicken mcnuggets (on 1 night), steam buns, some cakes for dessert, fruit slices, and salad bar - Overall, I was quite disappointed with the food from Horizon Club. Afternoon tea bread tasted stale :( Breakfast - There's A LOT more choices for breakfast if you dine at YiCafe. I found out about YiCafe on the very last day of my trip and I was very regretful not to have tried the food there. They have Middle Eastern station, Japanese station, Indian station, Western station, etc... - I've tried almost every dish during breakfast - the fried doughnut was not salty enough, soy milk had no sugar, omelette was bland. - Best breakfast item: Pancakes & French toast Room Service - [ ] Hainan Chicken Rice - Chicken was cooked till it was dry because I told them I’m pregnant and need to make sure that there’s nothing raw. Otherwise, I think the meal would’ve been pretty good. The chicken rice was cooked well. - [ ] Brownie with Mango Sorbet - Brownie was good! Menu said the brownie will come with cookies and cream ice cream, but I was told that was an old menu and they no longer serve cookies and cream ice cream :( - [ ] Wonton noodles - Unfortunately, the noodles were really soggy. Otherwise, taste was good. - [ ] Porcini Soup - I liked the soup. Came with bread on the side. - The hotel was kind enough to compensate for the meals. Entertainment - Note that you cannot access VPN through the hotel wifi - There are a variety of channels - mostly local TV shows from various cities around China. I enjoyed HBO, CNN and the Beijing channel the most. I do enjoy their dating shows. Chi Spa - [ ] Tried the city facial + head & shoulders massage (add on)- I think it was okay. I might try something else next time (1460 rmb) - [ ] The room was very clean and spacious with a large tub, and shower room which I did not have access to because I’m only there for a facial treatment. If I did body scrub with aroma bath, then I think it would be quite a good experience. - [ ] The facial therapist used a sort of comb to massage my head to help with blood circulation. Not the kind of massage I was expecting, but I think it’s helpful - [ ] Shoulder massage only lasted 5 minutes - [ ] Also included light arm massage - [ ] Focused on pressure points - [ ] After the treatment, they served me warm water because I couldn’t drink tea. No plate of fruits or biscuits were offered, and I was escorted to the reception to pay. - [ ] I think my skin looked pretty good after so I do see some results, but if you’re going for relaxation then maybe try something else? Location - The IFC mall is right across the street from the hotel. Ritz Carlton is right next to the IFC mall, as well as the IFC residence. - Right next to Superbrand mall - Approx 35 minutes drive to Xujiahui in Puxi What I love about the room - [ ] Great water pressure - just want to stay in the shower forever - [ ] TV in the bathroom - [ ] Large windows, very comfortable space, beautiful night view - [ ] View looks amazing when it rains - [ ] Great customer service who are eager to please guests - [ ] Very clean, room smells fresh - There's two pillows offered for you to choose from. One is firmer, and the other is softer Laundry service - [ ] Very expensive - each underwear is around 50 rmb - [ ] Suit (2 piece) - approx 165 rmb - [ ] I think we ended up spending nearly 2,000 rmb on laundry Overall, a very comfortable stay!! I would absolutely stay here again, but maybe not join Horizon Club... YiCafe food seems a lot better.
