A historical hotel with great location. The front desk and doormen are all nice and responsive. The room is nice with the park view. The cleaning staff definitely needs more training. I stayed there for 8 nights. Day 1 - the cleaning lady left TV remote controller underneath the comforter, which took me forever to find it. Day 2 -... More

If you are out to see Shanghai, this is a great place. Location has nearby access to the subway, shopping, and is just a nice area. The breakfast is impressive and delicious. No better way to start your day! We stayed two different times here during our visit, using three rooms total. The upgraded room was definitely better but all... More

So this hotel is near the night life and also Jiao Tong University. There is a park across and that is a nice morning view. Not sure about centrality of location beyond that. It is one of the older hotels and the people here on the executive lounge are all smoking. Breakfast was more Chinese style - and actually I... More

The time seems to have stood still since my last visit three years ago. The negative aspects predominate today. The standard double room was superficially cleaned and the air was stale. The bed was worn out and the furniture outdated. Even a worse picture gave the bathroom with calcified installations. The free Wi-Fi worked hardly and the speed was pathetic.... More

I stayed here for three nights while on a business trip in April 2016. It is a good mid-range hotel in a nice and friendly looking neighborhood. Everything was OK in my room, wifi worked. Nothing special to remember. It is irritating that it still seems to be allowed in China to smoke inside the building (the bar).

The hotel is decent and certainly good value for money. It is not a five-star hotel but it is certainly comfortable. Room service is good, an excellent seafood restaurant (we had an incredible seafood buffet, mostly sushi but also with the most divine beef with foie gras), the staff are very good, especially the concierge, and the breakfast is fine.... Staying here for a biz trip I need to say the hotel have seen better days. Location is great as it is between the city center and Minhang District where I have to work. Rooms are old fashioned and the breakfast place feels more like a railway station. Other than that the rooms are cleaned well which is the most... More

I've been in this hotel 3 times and every time I have had a different idea. First visit: great place, nice rooms..The only problem was the smell of the restaurant. Second visit: horrible room, stairs to reach the toilette and bad smell coming from the same. Third visit: Room not good but not bad, Toilette very cold (a tornado was... More

Really nice and quite place, nice restaurant and really kind people. Good position in the city and a big park in front of you with everything you want just there around. Really close to the center, the malls, the nightlife and the business area.

This hotel located in one of the main bar street in Shanghai and there are many good coffee shops as well, in the evening you could have beer and BBQ on the street, if you are here just to relax and enjoy the scenery of Shanghai, I would say this is a location to be. The room I had was... More

Staying in Former French Concession

Neighborhood Profile
Former French Concession
While there are technical borders to the area formerly governed by the French in Shanghai, the "French Concession" of today is an amorphous neighborhood that is a favorite of the city's foreign residents. While it is mostly within the Xuhui district, residents will sometimes include parts of Jing'an and Luwan in their mental maps of the Former French Concession. The area seems frozen in time, characterized by quiet, tree-lined avenues, French-style villas, interesting boutiques, lively bars and quaint cafes that are not typical of China. All of these mix and mingle with local life as Chinese markets and lanehouse communities are peppered throughout. Denizens of the Former French Concession can spectate a mahjong game on the street or get their bike checked at a tiny bike repair store on the way to their refurbished apartment tucked away among Chinese family homes.
