The hotel dates back to the 1930's and is located in a nice area on the edge of the Bund near the old iron bridge. The facilities are poor, the restaurant is deceiving but the rooms are large and quiet. For breakfast you get a large selection (even M&M's!) but the overall quality is poor.

The room smelled slightly like smoke even though it was a non smoking room. The room was kept relatively clean and was quiet. It's a 10 minute walk to Nanjing Road train station, and the path is pretty safe. I did not eat the food there so cannot comment on it.

Arrived with difficulty as Police had no left turned the entrance to the Hotel. Taxi driver had fun trying to get us to the front door. Seamless book in and a great room on the 15th floor. Great view of the river and bund. Room and bed fine. Staff friendly and welcoming. Most struggled with English and could tell by... More

This is a disgusting hotel. The staff are unfriendly unhelpful and rude. The rooms are tiny and the beds uncomfortable! Like sleeping on a wooden plank. As for their food I would call it 1 star. Ordered room service it took close on 45 minutes and arrived uncovered and cold. I would definitely not recommend this place

We were paying £80 a night for a suit overlooking the city with night views you would normally expect in Sydney or New York, this is definitely a city that comes to its best after dark. If you enjoyed a feel of an older colonial style of hotel, this is a very good bet, all marble floors, art deco bars... More

We had a great two night stay. The views from our riverside bedroom were amazing at night. The breakfast buffet was extensive and the staff very helpful. Would come again. It is on the Bund so a great area to go walking. We had a lovely sunny day which added to our enjoyment

I stayed here for a few nights back in March. Overall a comfortable stay. I had a corner room with a view of the Bund. The room was big with a good size bathroom. My one HUGE complaint was the mold in the stand up shower. I said something but I don't think they understood. Thankfully I had a tub... More

Stayed for couple of nights. The room is decent and modern furnishings. Hotel offer free wifi and is located near area of the bund. It is also about 15 - 20 minutes walk to Nanjing Road where you can do some shopping. Hotel does not provide concierge service for you to store your luggage if you checkout early. This is... More

Staying in Hongkou

Neighborhood Profile
Hongkou
History oozes out of every fiber of the city, but Hongkou is a particularly notable neighborhood. Shanghai was a safe haven for about 20,000 Jews during the Second World War, and traces of this heritage can still be found in buildings and park monuments. Historic foreign relations aside, this neighborhood throws you into traditional Shanghainese life without taking you too far away from the city center. Some of the city’s best-preserved, ancient longtangs (laneway communities) and shikumen (Shanghainese lanehouses) are still in use as actual residences here. If you like to be surrounded by local faces, Hongkou is a great area to spend your time in. The football stadium, Duolun Lu and the North Bund area await should you need some entertainment.
