I stayed at this hotel for one week in August. Generally speaking it is clean, comfortable and has a very good gym. The underground access is close. There is also a nice park less than 1 km away. I would stay again.

Stayed here 3 nights at start of Virgin Holidays tour and one night at the end of the tour. On the whole the hotel is beautiful - lovely reception (lacks seating for people while they wait for pickups), nice bar with water feature but a bit expensive, excellent breakfast (great waffles and pancakes - but plenty Chinese food if you... I stayed here for one night in order to attend an exhibition nearby. Possibly because of the exhibition or some other reason, the prices were very high - Rmb 1000 for a room. At that price it was really a little bit ridiculous. This hotel is old state owned style and been renovated a couple of times over the years.... More

The water feature at the entrance is an inviting introduction to a hotel that sets a high standard. Rooms clean comfortable and appointments as expected for accommodation of the star rating. Location was not important to us as we were on a package tour. Did'nt have time to use the Gym or pool but they looked ok.

The foyer is super impressive, and the dining area is quite good. The bar rips you off big time, gouging is the correct term. The rooms are a bit tired. Wallpaper peeling a bit, power points that don't work and at night hardly any light (a pet peeve for hotels the world over). No towels one day, but they quickly... More

We stayed at this hotel as part of the Taste of China tour with Virgin. The room was comfortable although you couldn't draw the curtains which was irritating. The buffet breakfast was extensive and very good. There was a 'cafe' where you could get a toasted sandwich or a burger, which didn't seem overly expensive. Drinks at the bar were... More

This place is definitely a 3rd-tier hotel for Shanghai... or maybe 4th-tier. It's old and badly in need of a complete renovation. In no particular order, here are the problems I encountered... (1) The first room they gave me stunk of cigarette smoke, even though I’d reserved a nonsmoking room. And the air conditioner was doing nothing to cool down... More

Staying in Gubei / Hongqiao / Minhang

Neighborhood Profile
Gubei / Hongqiao / Minhang
West of Shanghai’s better-known business, cultural and entertainment centers, lies an expansive area of residential neighborhoods peppered with lifestyle pockets that have their own unique attractions. The schools have formed pockets of international communities throughout Gubei, Hongqiao and Minhang. Quite a few entertainment and shopping centers have built up over the years to cater to these communities. While living here means you are relatively far away from Shanghai’s usual hot spots, the large parks, spacious homes and proximity to great Japanese and Korean food keep the neighborhoods popular.
