I stayed in Grand Hyatt Shanghai for one night on 20th May. The receptionist named Zhang was totally unfriendly at checking and almost ruined my whole stay. I could not imagine how this could happen in a Grand Hyatt. Will never visit this hotel again.

This hotel lives up to the the name of Grand Hyatt. The service, the facility, and location were all fantastic. You are staying in the Jin Mao tower, it does not get much cooler than that. Check-in and Check-out were both smooth, and if you have any questions the front desk will be able to assist with anything. I will recommend this hotel to my colleagues when they visit Shanghai!

I was worry about the service in such a big hotel, that why I booked a suite with club access. Then realized the suite was small so I decided to pay upgrade to one of their Diplomat Suites for this special occasion of the combination of wedding anniversary and birthday ahead of time. Pre-arrival email exchange and arrangements were smooth and efficient, but upon arrival.... Oh man... what's wrong with this hotel? Service was NOT in their blood... I will not complain about the suite was not ready at 14h40, since there were some arrangements for them to be done. But a long queue at Grand Club for check-in?! seriously? Club level should be boutique / luxury service within a grand hotel, but it's for sure how the management would think or care. On sky lobby level of 54, it's so hard to get find someone available to swipe elevators to get up to level 83 where the Grand Club is located. Once you get up there... a LONG queue around 10 people waiting to check in and only two desks! Which designer put the desks right at the elevator landing? zero sense of welcome and the team was in the motion of try to reduce the line and it was a very messy situation. Other hotels would invite you to sit down, offer a bottle water or a cup of tea or coffee. But nothing here… Suite was not ready? it's ok, I went to the lounge and wait; I asked them to bring the key over when the suite was ready. Of course this was never done... I walked back and waited on the line again.... and they didnt even prepare the key yet although the suite was finally ready. The suite is very beautiful, I always love the design of the hotel... since 2001. Everything works really well in the suite, the AC was quiet and lighting was functional and relaxing. But what happened to the standard welcome amenity? for such a top tier suite, all you receive is a small fruit plate that you would get in a Marriott room. And they dont even have plates and knife/fork next to them.....No letter about the hours of the Club and no welcome card. Let's go back to the lounge again, Happy Hour had a nice set up and it wasn't too crowded which was ok. But there was simply no one come by to check in on the stay and experience. No one from the team ever address us by last name nor first name. Same as the breakfast.... the team at the lounge couldnt even smile behind their masks. Our departure date was the birthday and this information in any hotels can be captured from the passport that we presented upon check-in (and in China they have to enter that in both PMS and PSB system) but again NO ONE acknowledge the special day! A year ago, we had a birthday in Portman Ritz Carlton which was an aged hotel and cheaper then Grand Hyatt Shanghai, but the team there went above and beyond for such an occasion! Here at Grand Hyatt? We were just two people staying in the hotel. I really love the design of the building, I used to love Hyatt brand. This is for sure a landmark tower, but I dont think they care about hospitality. The only one who cared is Laura, who was off during our stay and she was the only one checked in digitally to see how things were. And dear management, please check the black out curtain in the bedroom. they are too short thus a lot of light leaked in the morning.

We stayed for 2 weeks and I think the Grand Hyatt Shanghai staff may be the most professional and kindest employees I have ever experienced. We had the same house keeping person our entire stay and she was wonderful and very attentive, as was her supervisor. We were very touched by the thoughtful decoration of two animals made from towels - beautiful! The Executive Lounge staff was also exemplary, always calling us by name and assisting us with various things including my Metro app, helping to translate and talk to a curious young boy, refreshing our beverages and much more - always kind and helpful. The food was also excellent! The breakfast was also amazing including the woman who always remembered how me and my wife liked our eggs cooked. Our room/suite was also very comfortable, including the bed, and we had an excellent view. Overall, I could not have been more pleased. We were very sad to leave! Thank you for such a wonderful stay - look forward to coming back.
