Was upgraded to a Grand Suite due to my Globalist status which was beautifully appointed and had an incredible view from the 82nd floor. Customer Service could still be improved post Covid: most staff members are extremely polite but do not proactively engage or personalize the stay. Overall an hotel to recommend in Shanghai! The Grand Club offering is average and within Hyatt standards but quite limited compared to other hotels in the city. Staff is lovely though. Breakfast buffet was crowded due to Labor Day festivities but staff was helpful. No hot chocolate was provided without prior request… Plenty of food available though and pancakes were tasty.

Checking in took a very long time and our rooms were not ready until 5:30 pm. Through out our stay, four days, we noticed that the check in/out counter had a long queue !! Staff where neither apologetic nor friendly in the check in and out process !!

Excellent associates' services in an impeccable hotel, right from check-in to the housekeeping and the daily breakfast, the staff are quick and attentive. The minor inconvenience of language is usually quickly overcame by someone who does speak English. Overall a fantastic hotel.

The hotel has an excellent location in Shanghai, with convenient transportation and various choices of restaurants nearby. Pretty pity my Diplomat suite does not have a river view as the club. The lounge food has limited choices, but the staff are all friendly.

Great hotel Great location Great views. Cleanest can be inprove. Good breakfast. Room service not too good they didn't speak English very dificult to order. Taxi company recommended by the concierge is the worst. The over charge. Get your own taxi or use the China app for Uber

Once upon a time this property was a good enough reason to visit Shanghai. Not anymore!! From the moment i walked into the property i got a bad feeling and unfortunately my gut was right. The bellboy was so reluctant to even take my bags and wanted me to take them to the 54th Floor myself. The check in then was a total disaster. There were just 3 front clerks and there was a line in front of all. There were people running in and out of the offices but no one came to help ease out the rush. Checked in and then realized that i was not granted lounge access though i had paid for it. Went back to the clerk and asked him about my lounge access and then he relooked at my booking and without an apology reprogramed my card. Was in the lounge and met another gentleman and stuck up a casual conversation. It was so uncanny when even he mentioned (without any prompt from me) that the property was just not the same. He used to also stay there and felt that the service has gone down tremendously. He only echoed my sentiments. Then i went to the spa for a massage. After the massage they informed me that they are unable to charge the same to my room. On asking why they couldn't do it they asked me to go to the reception with them and get it charged. Reluctantly, i went down and was informed by the reception that even they couldn't charge it to my room and i needed to pay it with a credit card!! Services cant be charged to rooms???? This is unheard of. So i had to again go up to my room and collect my card and make payment at the spa!! This whole ordeal took more than 30 mins after a massage and at a time when all you want is to hit the bed! The whole property has a look of neglect and no one basically cares anymore. I will never ever go back to them and there are a million other properties to stay where i am sure i will be treated with more respect and care.

I am writing to issue a formal complaint against Grand Hyatt on the Bund in Shanghai for its extremely unsatisfactory service, unprofessional and dishonest staff, disorganized management, and poor crisis management. I attempted to check in to three rooms on Friday, April 7th, 2023: one room for my fiancé and I, one for my parents, and one for my in-laws. My specific complaints are as follows: Extremely late check-in:
These rooms were booked over three months in advance. I was told by the first-floor staff I could check in at 12 noon. When I arrived, the staff at the front desk had difficulty checking me in. I overheard the staff mentions to her colleague that the information in the system did not match my reservation. When I asked her for clarification, she simply ignored me. Eventually, after twenty minutes of waiting, she claimed that we could not check in since we had apparently arrived “too early.” This is contradictory to the information I was told and the product that was sold to me at full price. I paid to check in at 12 noon and this is not the service I received. In the end, the rooms for my parents and in-laws could finally be checked into at 3:00 pm, but the room for my fiancé and I could not be checked into until 8:00 pm. That is 8 hours of hotel service that I paid full price for and did not receive. I was given no compensation. Since we were forced to check in at such a late hour, we were up until midnight unpacking boxes and preparing for the next day. Not exactly how I imagined the night before my wedding day would go.
 Failure to deliver advertised service:
Chinese pre-wedding ceremonies are common at this hotel. They involve decorating the room in a specific way and providing red bed sheets. We requested this specific service three months in advance and were promised it by the hotel staff. When the day came, no service arrived. We tried to call the front desk again, but our calls were simply ignored. In the end, we had to make up the room ourselves. No explanation, apology, or compensation was provided. Our entire wedding procedure was delayed.
 Lying to the customers:
At this time, our bridesmaid contacted the front desk to complain about these two incidents (late check-in and failure to provide pre-wedding ceremony service). However, during the phone call, the staff at the front desk claimed that clients can only file one complaint per phone call. Our bridesmaid then suggested she simply confer with the manager instead. The staff then contradicted himself and said he would hear both complaints himself.
 Failure to deliver on promised compensation:
Eventually we got in contact with the manager and were promised the following compensation: a later check-out on Sunday (4:00 pm instead of the usual 12 noon) and complimentary wine and dessert. This was to be delivered to all three rooms by 2:00 pm on Sunday. By 2:50 pm on Sunday, no such compensation was delivered to any of the rooms.
 Lying to the customers for the second time:
When contacting the front desk to inquire about the missing wine and dessert, the response from the staff was an informal “that’s not my responsibility.” A second phone call revealed the false excuse that the dessert had not been delivered since the room had apparently hung the “Do Not Disturb” card on the door. Knowing this was false, I then inquired if this was also the case for the other two rooms. In a panic, the staff on the other end only paused before abruptly hanging up the phone in silence. No one returned my call.
 Failure to make up the room and no hot water:
On Sunday morning we received a notice that our room would not have access to hot water from approximately 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Checking in with my in-laws later that day, I was shocked to discover that they had tried to take a bath but had no hot water. It was then that I learned they never received the notice because no cleaning staff had even come to make up their room since they checked in. That means two full days of no room cleaning service. The occasional mishap is forgivable, but so many repeated offenses in the span of only three days are unacceptable for any hotel, let alone a luxury hotel like the Grand Hyatt. Even if mistakes happen, it is unacceptable for staff to make up contradictory excuses or even conjure up bald-faced lies straight to the client’s face (“You came too early,” “that’s not my responsibility,” “You hung a Do Not Disturb card on your door,” etc.) This was no simple vacation. This was my wedding day, and the first (and likely only) time my in-laws will visit China. I placed my trust in this brand as it is supposed to be a 5-Star hotel providing 5-Star service. Instead, I was grossly offended by the unprofessional and childish behavior of the staff and disorganized management that utterly failed to provide any sort of professional service.

If your looking for the best hotel in Shanghai stay at the Grand Hyatt. My wife and I stayed there March 15 -23rd 2023 and had a wonderful time. We were in room 1718, diplomatic suite, while pricy it was well worth it. Vicky and her staff took great care of us and went above and beyond to ensure all our needs were met! 5 Star service from the entire team. David the GM made time to check in with us which was a nice gesture. If your looking for the especial place to stay, book the Grand Hyatt and you won't be disappointed!.
