Hotel's Favorite
Excellent location with great customer service. A nice selection of restaurants. Room was decent size with extra amenities. Only big issue was the size of all 4 pillows, which were huge and firm and could not be used for sleeping. Big suggestion is to try the Former French Cookies. Box of 10, and that is not enough. Awesome dessert. I highly recommend this hotel.

As we were moving to live in Shanghai, we stayed with my wife and daughter at the Okura for 4 nights in January.
The hotel is very well located, with many different lines of subway very close by.
The deluxe rooms are ok , clean and comfortable. They could benefit from a modernization, including more power outlets to charge all our tablets and phones.
All the staff is highly professional and kind. The check in process was a bit slow and old fashioned as I had to sign more than 3 documents even though I booked online (giving all the details, incl payment) and even though I already stayed there before... At least the check out was very effective.
The only main concern that should need serious attention is the taxi service. Nobody can understand how it really works : you keep standing there in the morning for ages , waiting for a taxi while some actual taxis where in the Okura parking waiting ....

I was born in Shanghai and I have always dreamed of staying at the Garden Hotel one day and finally it came true. It was a great experience to stay there.
We contacted 马老师 to book the stay and we received prompt quote from 马老师 with some upgrades from 黄老师. The view from the room was stunning. We can see the hotel's garden and some classical French buildings. We loved the pavilion in the garden but unfortunately we didn't get to see it in person and I’m sure that I will get there next time.
My wife had been pregnant for about 20 weeks by that time. When 蒋课长 heard about this situation, he/she provided us with another upgrade - an executive room with a bath and a shower with complimentary fruits everyday. That was indeed very thoughtful.
Apart from that, I enjoyed the stay with Okura Garden Hotel because they have a washlet (electronic bidet) at each toilet.
The amazing customer service from 马老师, 黄老师 and 蒋课长 made me feel at home. Thank you sooooo much! I may visit Shanghai again by the end of 2924 and I will stay there again!

I arrived early morning after two sleepless nights on the road. The reception rejected me for the early check in. I explained my circumstances asking to check what we can do and got advised to cancel my reservation or add 400 rmb to upgrade the room. I was so tired to look for another option, so I set in the lobby with the tears in my eyes, thinking what to do. No one affected a glass of water or tried to speak. After evaluation I though that it is worthy to add the room value to keep me well rested. No one took care of the luggage or showed where the elevators are. I arrived to the room. Old, with no style or charm, tasteless. With Nescafé 3 in 1 near the teapot. With the synthetic feeling bath towels, which do not dry you, but get wet itself. With the blue Internet wire in the middle of the table, like we are still in early 2000th. With thin pillows, worse than the old pillows we have for camping. The only good thing which was there was a view. This is the reason the hotel gets score 1 and not zero. Never again. Highly not recommended. Avoid if you do not want to spoil your day like I did. Ah, by the way if you want to charge something, you can only do it at the writing table or teapot plug. No other power sources in the room, so get your power banks ready.

Dear victoria-othertribe, We appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback. I would like to extend my sincerest apologies to you for your experience here. We’re sorry that we didn’t provide you with thoughtful and prompt service and room amenities didn’t meet your expectations. We prepare cotton towels and wifi in our rooms and a variety of pillows for our guests to choose from. We could offer a power strip to your room if you thought the plugs were not enough. We are sorry for the inconvenience. We look forward to welcoming you back again to replacing this very negative experience with a more positive one. Very good location, great for shopping, access to the metro and places to eat and drink.
Excellent service and facilities in the room. We were on a high floor so the views were amazing and the room was very quiet.
We used the swimming pool ( you need to bring a swimming cap or can buy one at the pool) and the gym was well equipped.
The breakfast had a range of European, Chinese and Japanese foods and was excellent value at about £16 pp.
The hotel bars are expensive so beware. The sky bar is worth a visit but expect to pay over £30 for two drinks and a few peanuts. Avoid the rose coffee room, the coffee is not good and the cost is extortionate.

Located in a vibrant area of Shanghai, the Okura Hotel offers a blend of old-world charm and modern convenience. The hotel's combination of old and new buildings creates a unique atmosphere that reflects the city's rich history.
While the location is excellent and convenient, with easy access to the subway, our experience at the Okura Hotel fell short of expectations. While the staff was polite, they lacked the warmth and friendliness we've encountered at other establishments. This, coupled with the state of the building, left us feeling less comfortable during our stay.
The condition of the room was a little disappointing. We encountered issues such as a missing part of the bathroom counter, providing an unwelcome glimpse into the cabinet's molded interior. Also, we found old slippers underneath the TV table, remnants of the previous guest's stay. Additionally, the bed showed signs of wear and tear, detracting from the overall comfort of our stay.
However, on a positive note, we appreciated the variety of cushions offered by the hotel, allowing guests to customize their sleeping experience to their preference.
Despite these shortcomings, Shanghai's allure as a dynamic city to explore remains unchanged. The hotel's convenient location near the subway allows for easy exploration of the city's attractions.
In conclusion, while the Okura Hotel offers a prime location and a unique blend of old and new architecture, our experience was marred by issues with the building's condition and cleanliness. While we may have been unlucky with our room, we will likely explore other accommodations for our next stay in Shanghai.

The Okura has been my hotel of choice in Shanghai for years. It's one of the best hotels if you want to stay in the French Concession (which I do if I possibly can). On this return visit (first since the pandemic) I found still an overwhelmingly high quality hotel, with excellent sleep quality and high quality facilities all round (despite the considerable age of the hotel). And the midnight Japanese noodle room service remains one of my favourite features. But there have been a few little changes. The Japanese set breakfast is gone, which is a pity, but the selection at the buffet breakfast has been beefed up to compensate. I was really impressed: there was a wide range of Japanese options from which you can assemble your own traditional breakfast, there were tasty and authentic Chinese options, including fried dumplings as good as any wet market stall in the city, and there are also standard Western options. The overwhelmingly attentive service standard has also slipped a little. Whereas the front of house staff used to go out of their way to accommodate early check-ins, they want you to pay for the privilege now. There was also a man standing by the lifts who just stared at guests and didn't greet them. Very odd.

The sincerity of the staff impressed. With hindsight, we realised that we could have been overcharged the taxi fare on the way to the hotel as it was early morning when we arrived. We only informed the concierge when we were about to leave. We could see that he was genuinely sincere in wanting to help us seek redress even though we could not provide the details. He also managed our expectation. During breakfast, there was this young lady at the entrance guiding guests to their tables. Her bright and cheery smile coupled with her efficiency in clearing the tables made the breakfast so pleasant. (I forgot to take note of her name.) Sometimes, you get the impression that service staff smile because they have to. Not this young lady. She smiled like she enjoyed and took her work seriously. The hotel is in a good location close to the subway that connects easily. While some may find the decor and interior fixtures dated, one has to remember that it is a heritage hotel with old world charm. Hence, we found our room charming.

A good location and reasonable price. But…,
We had a garden view room with faulty A/C and the room became very hot, despite reporting many times and being promised action nothing was done to fix the problem. If you stay here I suggest you check your room on entry and if there is anything faulty don’t accept assurances of a repair, demand a new room.

I stayed here for two nights to go to a concert.
Location: Conveniently located, so it's easy to get around
The 9th stop on subway line 10 from Hongqiao Airport
The 4th stop on line 7 from the Bandai Namco Concert Hall. Both can be reached in one train without transfers.
Room: Comfortable and thoughtful
The bed mattress is good, the disposable slippers are fluffy, and there are bathrobes, so you can stay comfortably.
Breakfast: Lots of variety
Buffet style at Rose Cafe on the first floor.
There are various Japanese, Chinese, and Western food corners.
Egg dishes and noodle dishes are made on the spot.
I felt that the noodles used for the Taiwanese beef noodles and wonton noodles were different.
The noodle dish I recommend for breakfast is this one.
Restaurant: Good and strange restaurants
Good restaurant: Chinese restaurant "Bai Yulan" lunch order buffet
It has a menu that you don't often see in Japan and it's delicious. I especially liked the "Shrimp marinated in aged wine", "Crab miso soup buns", and "Yakisoba with yellow chives in soy sauce".
Unique restaurant: Dinner at Rose Cafe
I came here late after a concert, so the last order was at 9pm.
The "Okura's traditional consommé soup", which I was looking forward to the most, was delicious.
However, the "traditional curry rice" was more like rice with thinly sliced beef and mushroom sauce than curry.
It was edible, but I didn't smell like curry.
It was close to the last order, so maybe it was a different person who made it?
I regretted not ordering the "beef pilaf" that the hotel recommended to me in advance.
Other: They spoke Japanese, so I had a stress-free stay.
When I inquired about restaurant reservations before traveling, they kindly responded with recommendations on menus, etc.
After arriving, the Japanese staff gave me advice about local information, which was very helpful.
I'm grateful to be able to spend my time without language stress.
I'll stay at the Okura again the next time I go to Shanghai.

We took a taxi as it is quite cheap and the hotel did not seem to offer transfers. Please make sure you have the name and address of the hotel in Chinese.
You will have to ask the hotel directly...
Hi there, sorry for late reply.
The room I've got previously faces the garden and it does have a bath tub. Baby cot I'm not sure if u can request though :)
