Great place to stay! Quite near to some attractions and popular restaurants. The only problem was that communication. Its was hard to ask the staff about recommendations. But not a big deal, we had a pleasant stay!

I have never been more appalled by a hotel's conduct. They tried to double charge for my room on check in, after a long and painful conversation they assured me no further money would be taken from my card. On checking my credit card statement, they had indeed taken the payment again, in fact they had taken it immediately on check in (I arrived at the hotel at close to midnight on the 24th September and was not in my room until well after 1am, the transaction on my card was from the 24th September). Despite me expressly saying I would not authorise such a charge, as it had already been paid in full through booking.com 3 weeks prior. I have now had to contact my credit card fraud team to deal with this as the hotel were completely unhelpful and unapologetic about their fraudulent activity. In addition to this the also took a holding amount of 4000rmb despite me only approving a 2000 amount, this was returned to my card on check out however they should not have taken the 4000rmb (more than the cost of the 4 night stay) when I only signed for 2000. Devious and dishonest behaviour on all counts. The hotel itself was fine, although the breakfast left a great deal to be desired. The staff were by far the worst part of the hotel, rude unhelpful and a far cry from even 2 star service. Avoid at all costs there are far better hotels in Shanghai to stay at and ones where you dont have to worry that you are being ripped off.

You can never really go wrong with these bigger chain hotels. The Nikko chain has always been safe and stays are mostly comfortable. The hotel is located in the Jingan temple area but is a bit away from the busy part where all the shopping centres and large commercial buildings are located. There are a few small local shops here and there but nothing really interesting in walking distance. The hotel and all is nice. The room I stayed in was a little bit old and probably need some repairing as the bathroom door was cracked at the bottom. Other this I had no complains in general to the room. The bed was comfortable. I had a view to the highway on a high floor so the view was nice. All the amenities were sufficient in the bathroom and the overall size of the room is quite large. Very reasonably priced and would come back here again for personal or business trip if staying Jingan is needed.

I have been to hotel nikko in different countries. Hotel Nikko shanghai is simply the most terrible one I’ve ever been. Stained floor, worned our drawer, dirty wall~~ it’s simply not what I would expected from a five star hotel. Worse of all there are even flies flying in the room ! The front desk lady is also quite impolite, and I had to personally walk to the front desk to ask for a CLEAN room !

Stayed a month here 2018 and again 2019. Got room on higher floor but same layout. Bathroom sink leaked and when you turned faucet up it made terrible noise - heard from next door too. Great shower. Excellent housekeeper on 15th floor - very attentive and efficient. Breakfast buffet just not up to what expect from 5 star hotel. Coffee terrible. Friendly staff and made -to-order omelettes and noodle soup. Did not eat other meals in hotel. Muzak in lobby unchanged from last year. Cute room service robot that chatters in baby voice as it goes up elevator. Gym has same broken equipment as year ago. Men's locker room quite unpleasant and rarely checked by staff. One of 4 showers broken; big puddles in shower stall and common area. Staff person keeps giving locker keys in same small area so very bunched up and only small bench to sit and change clothes. Jacuzzi not hot enough. Didn't use pool. Convenient location to No. 71 bus that goes all the way to Bund, and 10 minute walk to Jiangsu Road metro station. Lots of restaurants in the area. 15-30 minute walk to Jing'an Temple and high end malls on West Nanjing Road. Inefficient check in and out. They don't seem to realize what is surname and first name of non-Asians, even though is clear in passport. Helpful concierge.
