Avoid the Nikko Shanghai if you can help it, Hilton is nearby for similar price and much better service. The staff and management don’t really care about customer service and the rooms face one of the main arterial routes into Shanghai, is right outside the window it is busy 24-hours, not good for trying to sleep.

Rooms in desperate need of refurbishment. The hotel staff appear to be totally untrained. To call them amateur would be too much of a compliment. Management is non-existent. Almost everything on the room service menu is not available. Hardly anyone speaks English. I cannot thing of a single neutral, let alone positive, thing to say about the place.

Landed at Nikko as regular hotel had no rooms. Would come back for following - v good price when booked through agent. Excellent swimming pool, gym and sauna. Did not use spa but looked good. Maybe not because - tried to extend my 4 night stay by 1 night and was asked to go to agent as the hotel could... More

this hotel is up to standard of 5-star, concierge helped us with luggage and also very friendly, especially maybe their manager Jayden was most helpful, he recommended many good restaurants for us, and helped us to take the taxi and metro very carefully, he is a good staff here.

This is my first time staying in Nikko. Room is big but the room temperature cannot be adjusted, too warm - don't think the thermostat works. Their buffet breakfast has plenty of choice but quality not impressive. Traffic in Shanghai is bad as ever and the staff at the concierge were not especially helpful and attentive in the morning rush... More

Supposedly a 5-star hotel- but the staff, service and room is far from international standard. Room is old and not well maintained, bathroom counter top is cracked and stained. Decor and everything feel artificial and cosmetic. Breakfast is very so-so and a bit disorganized.

The room itself was spacious, clean, comfortable, and tasteful. The bathroom was also very nice; large tub with a tv. The service wasn't terrible but it also wasn't excellent. No one was overly helpful in offering tips or plans for what to see and do in Shanghai. However, one morning my mom missed breakfast and they offered her free coffee... More

Had to stay (with my bosses from oversea who insisted to stay in Nikko as they know it from Japan - regardless what i told them) there again: so sad? Place is run by hopeless management, check-in took endless again but check-out was worse, they missed their flights. Tried to contact GM, but were refused - so for our group:... More

Good: Spacious room, like the bathtub with TV monitor in front , and the washlet. Mattress is comfortable. The swimming pool is perfect but it requires customer to wear swimming hat. Bad : The air condition is too warm. The check in counter works too slow and the receptionist expects all Chinese can speak mandarin!!

Staying in Zhongshan Park

Neighborhood Profile
Zhongshan Park
The residential and commercial areas around the beautiful grounds of Zhongshan Park have never been considered particularly fashionable by a majority of Shanghai’s foreign residents, but plenty of expats do choose to live here. The park itself is a huge draw, providing a pocket of serenity in the middle of the metropolis. The area has its share of trendy shops with wares that can’t be found elsewhere, delicious restaurants with food ranging from fancy to affordable, and great hidden bars. Rents are also cheaper here than in other neighborhoods with the same conveniences. Aside from the obvious attractions, with its neighborhood fix-anything shops and pop-up street stalls that sell anything you need, you’ll never sacrifice Western comforts.
