We stayed there for 2 nights and we couldn't be happier! Cheap hostel but the room was really clean and the bathroom was gorgeous with a nice and tidy shower. Bed really comfortable and clean and the staff speak excellent English. The location is perfect because in the centre e close to the metro and The Bund. Well recommended

I stayed in a dorm, the bed was ok. Showers and toilets were clean enough. The staff doesnt speak english though but check in was easy. Not so many foreigners were staying in this hostel so the ambiance was not that fun (it's hard to interact with chinese even when they are travellers). No food available at the hostel, only... More

I can't fault the staff in this hostel, they have all been very friendly and helpful. Also the rooms are cleaned daily and you are provided with fresh towels every other day. The only downsides with this hostel are, it's incredibly dark...not many windows and small rooms. The drains smell quite a bit, so there are a lot of flies... More

We had a brief stay at this hostel but we definitely could have stayed longer. Our private room was clean and comfortable and the AC kept us warm. The staff at the reception were helpful despite the language barrier. The hostel is located near the metro station (10 minutes walking) and situated in a very typical and authentic Chinese neighbourhood.... More

Stayed in a double room that was comfy and clean. The staff had a private bathroom with slippers and gowns so was very comfy. Its a short ride on the metro to the Bund but you can also walk it if you want in under 30 minutes. The staff are helpful and will do what they can to accommodate any... More

Well where to begin... There is NO kitchen, you're only allowed access to the fridge and the microwave (there is loads of yummy food in the streets nearby tough), so if you wanna cook yourself something good with the food you can buy in the street market next door, forget it ! The common room is exposed to the cold,... More

Great hostel in a quiet neighborhood that is clean with friendly staff. I stayed in the 8 bed dorm. Comfortable beds, seperate shower and toilet in the room, power points for each bunk, and good WiFi. Price was awesome too. But of a walk to the metro but not a big deal, maybe 15 or 20 minutes. Lots of small... More

It's a cheap place with a good location and that is it. Maby good for backpackers. The hotel has no service at all. The staff don't seems to be interested to take care of the guests. Small and dirty room. The bathroom was ok but smelly. The lobby looks like a disaster. They could not even help with laundry service.... More

I stayed at this hostel with my friend in a private room with its own bathroom. The staff are not friendly or helpful and the room was just plain dirty. The bathroom really old and smelly and there was no atmosphere - plenty of better places to stay in Shanghai for the same money

Love the warmth feeling the twin room had brought to me in my last two days stay in shanghai. Room is clean though surrounding area are dirty wet market.im happy never see roaches or mice. Around 15 mins walk to nearby underground station with a lovely proximity to a bunch of tourists attractions such as the bund and Yuyuan garden... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Shanghai’s original walls live on in the curve of the streets that serve as the border to the old city. An aerial view shows a clear circular outline and parts of the original wall are preserved as monuments to the ancient past. The main tourist attraction of Yuyuan (which means Yu garden, though it is often redundantly referred to as Yuyuan Garden) draws hordes of tourists every day, but wandering the streets around the complex reveals more exciting attractions such as food and antique markets. There are also streets lined with shops peddling everyday wares such as Chinese dining ware and craft notions that can be even more enticing to visitors uninterested in the usual tourist fare.
