Nice place to stay, in the middle of town. Relaxed environment, friendly staff and a cool rooftop bar to enjoy Breakfast or a beer in het evening. Really enjoying this spot! Shanghai is a beautiful city and full of really cool attractions and scenery

Friendly and helpful staff make this hostel/hotel a good option for a first visit to Shanghai. Excellent location near Dashijie station (2 minutes walk) or People's Square (5-10 minutes walk). Yunnan Rd South also has great food options, so you can literally walk out the door and find restaurants, or walk up the street a few blocks and find great... More

At a walking distance from the town centre. Good value for money. Clean and quiet. Athough a hostel it had a hotel standard and the location was excellent : could see the Pearl tower from my bedroom window and at the same time a very traditional area with small shops everywhere, Within 5 minutes walk from a metro station.

We stayed three nights here. I thought the hotel was quite centrally located, organized, and rooms were clean and tidy. It's also budget-friendly. Wifi was free but really spotty. The main issue here is definitely the staff, while generally friendly, were really less than helpful... with anything really. Luckily we had planned ahead in terms of places to visit and... More

I stayed here in 2014 and again in 2015. They did some renovating in between so the room I stayed at was even better than before. They have both rooms and dorms. I stayed in rooms both times. Some of the rooms have those window walls in the bathroom, but not all. The staff was friendly and helpful. I was... More

We stayed here for two nights whilst transiting through Shanghai. The staff are good, plenty of restaurants nearby, subway station close by, although it is not to far to walk to many places. We had a room with private bathroom with an interesting view into a little alleyway... Locals going about their daily lives etc. Would we stay here again?... More

Living in a budget hotel, I do not expect a grand reception lobby. Here is the same. However, their staff are friendly and helpful that can totally cover the shortage. The room size is relatively spacious comparing with other budget hotel. Interior design is simple but cleanliness is excellent. The water heater is okay. Around the hotel, there has a... More

We had a very good experience at this hostel. The staff were polite, the rate was very good for a private room in Shanghai, the room was clean and comfortable and the location was central. We thought the location was great for a first time visit to Shanghai. There are cooler neighbourhoods, further away from the touristy attractions, but this... More

I stayed at Laoshan Hostel for four nights in a double ensuite room. My overall impression is that this is a very good hostel. The room was very nice, apart from one of the corners near the window where there seemed to be some water damage causing the plaster to peel off. But as I said this did not bother... More

Hostel staffs are friendly and trusted as they kept my train tickets securely (which I booked in advance from China Highlights and delivered to hostel two weeks before my arrival). Room tariff is considered expensive for a hostel category but the location is at the central of town attractions. The room is not sound proof. I read on other reviews,... More

Staying in People’s Square

Neighborhood Profile
People’s Square
People’s Square brings with it all the excitement you would expect from the town square of one of the biggest cities in the world. The area around People’s Square and People’s Park is always a abuzz with activity. Oceans of local and foreign tourists flow in and out of the area every day to see grand museums, go shopping and eat at some of Shanghai’s most storied food centers. Shanghai residents, meanwhile, live and work in the many residential and office high-rises. While much of Shanghai stays busy late into the night, this really is an area that never sleeps with glitzy nightclubs keeping people up until the wee hours of the morning.
