This was a good place to stay, with a few shortcomings such as small room, almost transparent glasses of the bathroom in twin room, and was not a great street for International crowd. We just stayed here for one day and then moved out to another one that was much better.

I have stayed here multiple times and will again. The private rooms are small but comfortable and clean, the dorm rooms are spacious and cozy. The restaurant on the main floor serves good affordable food, and the bar upstairs is a great place to unwind in the evening or enjoy coffee and a breakfast sandwich. The location is hard to... It was clean and the location was good. The shower and toilet are in the room in a glass bubble, which is a little strange. The restaurant downstairs is pretty good, loved their dumplings! The hot pot restaurant next door is also great. We didn't know how such a hotpot worked, so we just asked a few locals who were... More

The best thing about this hotel is its location. its in the middle of everything in shanghai and subway is just a stone throw away While the room and bathroom is clean enough , the constant noise (some kind of advertisement) from the shop across the street is very disturbing ... luckily they stopped at night the rooftop bar and... I've stayed for 2 nights in a 4-bed dormitory. The room was clean, but a little run down. The dorm has its own bathroom en-suite, so there are only 4 people using it. The only point for improvement were the mattresses, they were very thin, even for Chinese standards. Location is A+, walking distance to the Bund, and 1 minute... More

The perfect location - makes Shanghai a walkable city! All you need for a short visit: very clean (small) room, comfy bed and private bathroom. They also offer you a free beer at the roof terrace bar :)

Hostel located about 20 minutes walk from the Shanghai Bund. Easily accessible to Subway system and within an area with lots of affordable food. I had a private room which was satisfactory, but the air-conditioning would constantly turn on and off in the middle of the night. Hostel bar was great for meeting people and very fun at night! Staff... More

Please note that China has excellent hostels. I've stayed in amazing places for this same price or less, depending on the city. This place is crap, even considering its price range. - OLD AND DIRTY: everything was stained and stinky. Our sheets had cigarette marks, and what is worse, the room had FLEAS!!! We paid for a deluxe private room.... More

**Laoshan Hostel is actually The Phoenix, which I didn't know before arrival. Just note that it doesn't say Laoshan Hostel anywhere on the building, only Phoenix. This hostel had more of a hotel feel to it, which was nice. Since the building has a few floors and many private rooms, it is quiet and secluded. However the rooftop area still... More

Good location - 15 mins from The Bund (Where you'll see the main skyline of Shanghai). By People's Square and the Museum of Shanghai, the street has lots of nice restaurants to try Dumplings. Getting there: (Get the Maglev (8 min journey 80 return) to Longyang Road (or green line subway but it's much slower), then get line 2 which... More

Staying in People’s Square

Neighborhood Profile
People’s Square
People’s Square brings with it all the excitement you would expect from the town square of one of the biggest cities in the world. The area around People’s Square and People’s Park is always a abuzz with activity. Oceans of local and foreign tourists flow in and out of the area every day to see grand museums, go shopping and eat at some of Shanghai’s most storied food centers. Shanghai residents, meanwhile, live and work in the many residential and office high-rises. While much of Shanghai stays busy late into the night, this really is an area that never sleeps with glitzy nightclubs keeping people up until the wee hours of the morning.
