We stayed in this hotel in May of 2015. The weather was 95% humidity and hot. Our room had no AC, and the front desk said they won't have AC because its too early in the season to turn it on. The furniture in the room was well worn, towel rack bent, water leaked out of the shower door every... More

Stayed here for a week on business. The bad: awful reception both decor and service; no English spoken; rooms a bit worn. The good: price £230 for 6 nights, room clean and airy, great location bang next to Honhkou Plaza Mall, which has about 50 restaurants in it some smashers. Also bang next to the Metro line and only 4... More

The rooms were reasonably clean, decent in size and provided 3-star levels of comfort but had signs of aging (e.g. the wallpapers are peeling). The location is also rather convenient, with a shopping centre opposite that provided enough dining options. Within walking distance to nearby food shops too. However, I would not recommend staying here: the location of the hotel... More

I had a very bad experience at JoyFull International by Stadium in Shanghai… In my room , which was dirty like none I've seen so far with some life going on the wall of the corridor and inside of bathroom. Breakfast was not eatable…. Never again. Even trying to find any possitive I found only one "Probably I will never... More

I booked this hotel with great reservation, being 2 star and all. However, everything works out. Free shuttle to the hotel and this was at 1am. Hotel is clean & everything is new. WiFi works. They even have a 2-plug for north american electronics, which is nice, because I forgot to bring my 3-plug connector. I had intentionally wanted to... More

Our room was quiet and nice. It was much better than the dark hallway and uninteresting lobby. Lots of construction going on around the hotel so it was very noisy in the breakfast room. Food for breakfast was abundant and good. Very close to metro line 8. Shops around, some restaurants. Mini bar was empty but there was a list... More

Not a nice hotel, cheap quality, it's okay if you're only need a bed for a night or 2. Free internet in room but very slow(not wireless), convenient stores around, right above a subway station(line 8), 5 min walk to Starbucks.

We went here for business with an official delegation. Location is rather convenient, near lines 3 & 8. Breakfast is OK. The rooms aren't very clean (the floor) but beds are top. It is impossible to enlightened the room properly ! Internet connexion is also bad, and the staff cannot deliver messages or communicate in english : no maps of... More

The one good thing about this hotel is that it is situated directly above Exit no.2 of Hongkou Football Stadium station of Line 8. You're within 4 stops of People's Square, the central area of Shanghai. Breakfast is actually pretty good and is included every morning. The free wired internet is also a bonus. However, you need to watch how... More

This hotel has seen better days. Its far from the center, a bit sketchy at night and it is not the cleanest. No wireless near, breakfast included but tough to find some decent western options. It is attached to a subway which makes things convenient but attracts interesting people at night. In shanghai you can do better.

Staying in Hongkou

Neighborhood Profile
Hongkou
History oozes out of every fiber of the city, but Hongkou is a particularly notable neighborhood. Shanghai was a safe haven for about 20,000 Jews during the Second World War, and traces of this heritage can still be found in buildings and park monuments. Historic foreign relations aside, this neighborhood throws you into traditional Shanghainese life without taking you too far away from the city center. Some of the city’s best-preserved, ancient longtangs (laneway communities) and shikumen (Shanghainese lanehouses) are still in use as actual residences here. If you like to be surrounded by local faces, Hongkou is a great area to spend your time in. The football stadium, Duolun Lu and the North Bund area await should you need some entertainment.
