Room have plenty of space, clean and neat. There is nothing much in the area, nearest supermarket is about 15 minutes walk. Crowd hotel, check-out queue is long. There is nothing special about the breakfast.

We stayed 2 nights here as part of a Mercury Tour in February. The hotel is well located for exploring with a bakery and small supermarket opposite, ideal for snacks & essentials. I can't really comment on the quality of sleep as our body clocks were all out of synch due to the long flight & time difference, so our...

This is a lovely hotel. We enjoyed our stay and would go again Good breakfasts nice clean comfortable rooms Busy area but everywhere in China is busy. The hotel had all we needed. Our luggage did not arrive in China on the plane we were on so we were without a change of clothes and the usual toiletries but those...

I am giving it a 5 because: 1) it looks like a 5 star hotel. I have no complaint about the hotel nor the room, 2) my husband had problem connecting his smart phone to WiFi, so he called the hotel for help. Immediately a gentleman came, he showed my husband what to do, step by step, 3) the concierge...

Across the river, a $4 cab ride to anywhere, this is great find. The hotel is used by tour companies but not an issue because of it's size. 27 floors and a revolving rooftop restaurant along with spa services make this a good three day stay. Funky window divider between bath and bedroom is interesting but found in many Asian...

A decent hotel with good sized rooms. The location is reasonably central though in a strange neighbourhood. Nothing bad about it, only a bit difficult to find and no real shops or restaurants nearby, if you don't go really local. The breakfast was ok, but mainly targeted to locals with minimal selection of the usual suspects like egg and meat....

This hotel was a great find and the rooms are very affordable compared to the high quality. There is nothing weird about this place, just spotless, clean and comfortable rooms with a bath tub and great views! And no cigarette smells. There are interesting real-Shanghai style streets to explore and metro station is a 10min walk with good access to...

Like other people on this thread we stayed at this hotel as part of a Mercury tour. We were pleasantly surprised by our first taste of Chinese hotels and found it to be very comfortable with tea and coffee making facilities in the room (not sure if that is because we were part of a British tour or normal) breakfast...

Nights 1,2 and 4 of an 8 night tour spent here. Bedrooms are comfy with an interesting detail of a windows between the bathroom and bedroom, thank goodness for the blind! Revolving restaurant at top with great views and it would be nice to have had the chance of a meal up there. Apologies to staff for being a little...

Staying in Hongkou

Neighborhood Profile
Hongkou
History oozes out of every fiber of the city, but Hongkou is a particularly notable neighborhood. Shanghai was a safe haven for about 20,000 Jews during the Second World War, and traces of this heritage can still be found in buildings and park monuments. Historic foreign relations aside, this neighborhood throws you into traditional Shanghainese life without taking you too far away from the city center. Some of the city’s best-preserved, ancient longtangs (laneway communities) and shikumen (Shanghainese lanehouses) are still in use as actual residences here. If you like to be surrounded by local faces, Hongkou is a great area to spend your time in. The football stadium, Duolun Lu and the North Bund area await should you need some entertainment.
