Hotel is good located in the city Centre of this very large city. Relaxed hotel, I slept one night on 17th floor and a night on the 23th floor. No noise at all. So perfect hotel, recommendable. Please see old bund with super views on...More
The hotel was really very nice. The rooms were decent sized with plenty of space between the beds. The washrooms were beautiful, were many amenities. The beds were a bit on the hard side, and the pillows were pretty thin, but I found I slept...More
Located a little away from the Bund it was a good location for my tour group as a start point to visiting China. Our included tour by coach covered a visit to the Bund and the hotel is close to the extensive Metro so was...More
Hotel was nice apart from the beds, the breakfast offering was good but a bit of a walk from the Bund. Revolving restaurant was expensive as prices did mot include 15% service charge. Staff spoke little English.

History oozes out of every fiber of the city, but Hongkou is a particularly notable neighborhood. Shanghai was a safe haven for about 20,000 Jews during the Second World War, and traces of this heritage can still be found in buildings and park monuments. Historic foreign relations aside, this neighborhood throws you into traditional Shanghainese life without taking you too far away from the city center. Some of
the city’s best-preserved, ancient longtangs (laneway communities) and shikumen (Shanghainese lanehouses) are still in use as actual residences here. If you like to be surrounded by local faces, Hongkou is a great area to spend your time in. The football stadium, Duolun Lu and the North Bund area await should you need some entertainment.

It's very well organised. A tour guide is with you from arrival in Shanghai airport to departure from Beijing airport plus local guides in each city. The hotels are good but the food is a little monotonous, although it changes from city to city. There's not much free time as there's a lot to see in a short time. A good introduction to China.

Depends on what you meant by near. There is one about 5-8 minutes walk away. Can't recall its name though. From the entrance, head right from the main road and you will see the metro sign about 300m away? Something like that.

I think ClareElise's comment is spot on. Star ratings are highly subjective, and I'm sure there are many quality hotels in Shanghai. Having said that, we were pleased, extremely so, with our stay in September 2016. It's a bit off the beaten path, but in a quiet neighborhood. Our room was fantastic, with a sitting room and a television that swiveled so it could be viewed from either the bed or the sitting area. The tub and shower (separate) were new and quite nice. The whole building was quiet, and the included breakfasts were full of many choices. I would only hope that I would have a chance to stay here again, so call it four stars, or call it five, but it was fabulous for us. I am pretty sure our room was not a basic one, so your mileage may vary, as they say.
