History oozes out of every fiber of the city, but Hongkou is a particularly notable neighborhood. Shanghai was a safe haven for about 20,000 Jews during the Second World War, and traces of this heritage can still be found in buildings and park monuments. Historic foreign relations aside, this neighborhood throws you into traditional Shanghainese life without taking you too far away from the city center. Some of the city’s best-preserved, ancient longtangs (laneway communities) and shikumen (Shanghainese lanehouses) are still in use as actual residences here. If you like to be surrounded by local faces, Hongkou is a great area to spend your time in. The football stadium, Duolun Lu and the North Bund area await should you need some entertainment.

The WOW suite was very spacious and had excellent views of the city skyline at night, I was amazed by it! You could change the ambient lighting inside the room just like in a flagship German luxury sedan. Upon arriving I was helped by Cassie and the Executive Assistant Manager. Very nice people. The service was flawless, Cassie took great care of us and went above and beyond to make us feel welcome - even giving us some very cool W branded gifts! Breakfast at the Kitchen Table was great, there were several different types of freshly squeezed juices, some made to order - which I enjoyed. Made to order hot breakfast items were also available off a menu that did not incur extra charges for us. This is by far the best W hotel in East Asia. This stay has been a very memorable and enjoyable experience for us, I do look forward to coming back and staying in the future when I am back in Shanghai. Thank you W Shanghai!

We arrived at the venue for the first time and were pleasantly surprised to find the venue operating well during a 'quiet' season in China. The hotel dining room was only filled to approx 15%. Partaking a Christmas Day Set Lunch was ok, not great. Room was cold.

This is one of the most exceptional hotels I have visited anywhere. The staff are so welcoming and professional and you are immediately made to feel part of the whole experience. The design is playful and modern, it draws you in rather than leaving you cold. The room is fantastic, everything you need and more. In the evening the cocktails are inventive, fun and delicious. The food is perfect and the view of the Bund, breathtaking.
