Hongkou
History oozes out of every fiber of the city, but Hongkou is a particularly notable neighborhood. Shanghai was a safe haven for about 20,000 Jews during the Second World War, and traces of this heritage can still be found in buildings and park monuments. Historic foreign relations aside, this neighborhood throws you into traditional Shanghainese life without taking you too far away from the city center. Some of the city’s best-preserved, ancient longtangs (laneway communities) and shikumen (Shanghainese lanehouses) are still in use as actual residences here. If you like to be surrounded by local faces, Hongkou is a great area to spend your time in. The football stadium, Duolun Lu and the North Bund area await should you need some entertainment.

Best hidden Gem in shanghai
Great place with awesome views in a typical local ambient. Rooms are high detailed decorated with all features to relax and feel at home. Team will take care of any need with the best of the care and friendship. No better option

Charming!
I reached out to make my booking only less than a week prior my stay and Peter was extremely accommodating. Chai Living tended to special requests I've made (e.g. asking for an iron for the room and requesting a beautiful view) and also ensured there was a personal touch during the stay. They left a letter with all the information that you may need (phone numbers, wifi password, menu, etc.). They also included breakfast for the room, and ensured there were eggs, milk, bread, yogurt, orange juice, and water. The designated lobby for Chai Living is beautifully decorated with a lounge and bar area. The actual entrance of the building to enter the Chai Living rooms is a little more dated but I really enjoyed the contrast between old and new. The local neighbours of the building were very welcoming and friendly. It felt like a very homey neighbourhood. The location is great, about a 5 minutes walk to the fabric market, which has a lot of options for their food court! There are also convenient stores scattered around the area and a beautiful flower shop right around the corner. Lastly, the view was an amazing one! Day or night, it takes your breath away. Great accommodation in Shanghai
We have been several times in contact with Peter before coming there and Peter was always helpful. Our internal flight has been delayed of several hours and Kare has been so kind until we got there at 4:40 am in the morning. We discovered a fantastic view over the city from our apartment which was located at the 8th floor. The apartment is very well equipped and furnished inside. I had my birthday there and they offered me a bottle of wine. Finally on the day of departure, Peter helped us a lot to find a taxi which was not easy on a rainy day. On a practical point of view, you have two subway stations nearby and the Bund is at a 25 minutes walking distance. There is also a supermarket at 10 minutes by walk (name : Ole). Chai Living was awesome. The location of the building is very convenient, is at a walking distance to the Bund. The staff is excellent, always willing to help out, very friendly! And the apartment was luxurious, the view of the bund was breathtaking, and it feels like home!! We learned a lot while staying at CHAI living, and it was the best experience in China! Highly recommended!!

This art deco building will take you by surprise. Loving and artistically done apartments keeping a very modern and contemporary interior look with all the mod cons you would need.
