We honeymooned at Qamea in August 2009, and loved it so much that on the plane home we decided to return for our 10 year anniversary. We made it in October 2019, and had a trip that was probably even better than the first! Our honeymoon was largely cloudy (which didn't stop us from having a fabulous time), but this time we had sunshine all week. We went snorkeling, ate delicious food, lazed around our private hot tub and pool at the Royal Beach House, and had the most relaxing vacation ever. We used the meal plan, which was a great choice. When you arrive at the beautiful open-air (but covered) restaurant for breakfast, there is a continental buffet you can eat from, and one of the wonderful staff members will quickly bring you the day's menus. You order your breakfast, two-course lunch, and three-course dinner at breakfast , and then when you arrive for lunch and dinner your first course appears within minutes. The most phenomenal thing about Qamea, as always, is the staff. They are friendly, kind, accommodating, and they all know your name within 24 hours. The grounds of the resort are beautiful, with a high degree of privacy between bures (even in the Beachfront bures, which aren't THAT far apart, they're angled such that you can't see any other bures from your front porch). Every detail of the stay, from your initial greeting with a fruity drink and flowers upon arrival to the song and flowers at your departure, is just delightful. I cannot wait to go back!

This is such a special place! My partner (who had never been to Fiji) and I (who have been there many times) agreed that Qamea Resort is our favorite holiday ever. The location on Qamea Island - 10 minutes by boat from Taveuni - is stunningly beautiful, and every accommodation has a gorgeous view of the beach, the ocean and the green mountains of Taveuni across the channel. All the excursions - the waterfall, the snorkeling and the village visit - were great. The diving offered here includes the best known sites in the area, but we went to a less well known site nearby for a "discovery dive" since my partner is not certified, and it was amazingly beautiful! Thank you Edward! The staff is friendly, efficient and took very good care of us, The food ranged from excellent to amazing, and if we preferred to dine on our own, the meal arrived at our door. This is a place where you can really unwind, but if you still need good internet you can get it. Our room was spacious and we loved the outdoor shower (covered in case of rain), and the refrigerator, coffee maker and the hammock on the front porch. Furthermore - the management really helped us when a class 2 cyclone disrupted our plans. They made changes to flights and helped me get a refund at my next destination when it became impossible to travel there. In spite of the changes we had to make, they made the whole experience work out for the best. Thanks Ron! Qamea Resort is a wonderful blend of high end services (world class diving AND a spa with European trained masseuses) and an authentic Fijian experience. While you are here, you come to understand that you are visiting a place where "progress" has not undercut tradition. While the local people have cell phones, they also still live off the land and sea in their traditional way. You really can have such an exotic experience and still enjoy all the comforts of a high end resort!

My husband and I spent an idyllic week at Qamea Resort. A beautiful spot right on the beach where we got both our open water and advanced diving certs (and did some amazing dives in the process under the friendly and professional instruction of Edward and Lui). The spa is really terrific - great massages and other treatments. Lovely bures (cottages), great food and drinks and above all really friendly and attentive service. General manager Leyh runs a great resort! Someday we’ll be back...

What an unforgettable vacation. This resort is complete paradise. My wife and I went for our honeymoon for 10+ days and we had the trip of a lifetime. We have traveled a fair amount to various islands and countries but nothing else compares to Qamea. The staff are the friendliest people in the world, the food was very good (french toast at breakfast was to die for) and overall the entire experience was life changing. The spa was amazing especially for someone who is very particular about massages and prefers very strong, deep tissue massages, they certainly applied the pressure needed to break up the knots in my back! Not to mention the spa is up in the jungle so you just heard the noises of the birds and tropical animals while in total relaxation. We did both waterfall hikes/tours as well as the "Circle Qamea" snorkel tour and all three were fun and magical. I could go on and on but words dont do this place justice, you must experience it for yourself. Dream vacation for honeymooners who want complete and utter privacy and to totally unwind and relax.

If you are looking for an off the beaten path luxury resort this is the answer! After flying into a small airport the Qamea staff will pick you up and whisk you away to a small beach. From there you'll climb aboard one of Qamea's boats to head off to your (almost) private island paradise! The staff is absolutely incredible. Most, if not all, of them are from local villages. They will go above and beyond any expectation to make your stay perfect. We are vegan and they accommodated us every way possible. One morning they did not have any fresh coconut cream for our coffee, we said no problem at all and that we were happy to enjoy it without. Five minutes later one of the staff had climbed a tree retrieved a coconut and made FRESH coconut cream! The dive master changed his schedule to leave the island so we could dive on Yellow Wall, highly recommend! As is the case in all of Fiji the inner reefs were severly damaged during a cyclone a few years ago. There are still some good options close by but I would recommend looking into either of the 'dive charters' (worth the extra fee). CJ, the surf instructor with Tropic Surf (highly recommend any Tropic Surf location) was incredible! The accommodations were perfect too. Private, lovely, AC if you like. The spa team was top notch and were able to work out even the deepest knots! 10/10 would recommend to any couple!

This place is a hidden gem. I cant rave about it enough. The resort grounds are beautiful and well manicured. The staff (big ma, Eddie, little ma, bubba, ronil etc) is amazing and treats you like family. At no point did we feel pressured to purchase anything. Located on a small island, you get the sense of exclusivity. There is no noise here..just pure serenity. The food is good; we ordered a la carte, because we're not big eaters (we don't normally order appetizers etc); we jumped to the main entrees and left feeling satisfied each time. Their tenderloin steak was so delicious. I got a deep tissue massage at the "jungle spa", which is a peice of paradise itself. The treatment rooms are Tucked in the lush forest. I literally had the BEST massage of MY LIFE. Charlotte was beyond amazing; she has therapeutic hands. I wish I can take her back to LA with me. No "spa music" required here; you listen to the tropical birds chirping and hear the raindrops in the background while you're getting your massage. Truly a magical experience. Thank you qamea resort for a wonderful time

We arrived after a long journey in the morning and were greeted with warm and friendly staff and a fresh tropical drink in the beachside check-in after which we were escorted to the outdoor dining area while our bags were handled. The grounds were impeccably beautiful. The experience immediately set a welcoming tropical tone. We came to dive and relax and that is exactly what we did. We quickly adjusted to the daily routine- coffee at sunrise from the in room French press, yoga on our private beach-front deck then breakfast before heading to the on-site dive shop. We did 2 dives each morning which got us back in time to clean up and head to lunch followed by afternoons reading, sunning or whatever before dinner. Usually we would head over early to hang out in the lounge with the other guests and catch up on their days before dinner. Some specifics: The bures: The accommodations are perfect- just like the pictures. There is not a bad one for sure! Nice hot showers and freezing AC. We definitely used our hot tub every day after diving (it also rained off and on) so if that is something you like I recommend getting a bure with one or you can use the one by the pool. There are units with above ground, beachfront options as well as sunken ones in the outdoor bathrooms (cuter but no view). The food: The food was excellent! Of course we had our favorites but overall really great! At Qamea you select all your meals for the day at breakfast. The purpose is so they can shop for fresh ingredients and make sure they have everything they need but it had the unexpected benefit of removing any decision making for the day. I know making a selection off a menu is not exactly stressful but I really did enjoy just showing up and having exactly what I wanted simply brought out- little things. A special shout out to the chefs for preparing vegan meals. If you are vegetarian, there is a whole separate menu which was great and they rose to the challenge to make vegan adjustments which was so appreciated! I would advise giving the resort a heads up before you arrive if you have any food concerns so they can plan. I didn’t think of it but they still did such a great job. The best was when they brought out a pile of steaming hot coconut milk muffins one morning and said “this coconut fell in the yard and we thought it would be perfect for your vegan muffins”. They were delicious! Non-diving things to do: The resort offers daily activities. They leave in the morning so with diving it’s generally one or the other. But we did take some days off diving and had a great time. First, I highly recommend the Jungle Spa. It rained a few afternoons while we were there so it was a perfect time to check it out and it did not disappoint! The location and the service was fabulous! Second, we did the waterfall hike which was a fun adventure for a no dive day. Third, we did the Circle Qamea boat tour which exceeded expectations for sure! We stopped at some of the most fantastic snorkel spots I have ever seen! One was so clear and blue and warm it was literally like swimming in a pool but amazingly the reef was vibrant and interesting. Even a few happy sharks swimming around. Then we had a tasty and serene beach barbeque. There are other activities (kayaking etc) but we didn’t do them (sadly). The diving: We did the 10-dive package and still had plenty of time to hang out. The equipment and crew at the dive shop were excellent but bring your computer- they are limited/extra. The shop is right on site which is great! The dives around the resort (10-15 minute boat rides) were excellent- all the soft coral we were looking for and tons of smaller fish. Each dive was my new favorite. Until Rainbow Reef. Hands down some of the best dives ever! I could go on and on here but let’s just say it is a must do and I recommend saving it for the last couple days. Atmosphere: The resort is small and they purposely do not fill to capacity to give everyone a personal experience. It shows! The staff is absolutely amazing! Some are third generation there and really take ownership. I started this post naming specific staff to recognize but deleted it because everyone was on the list! From the dive masters, to the waitstaff, the chefs, bartenders, gardeners and housekeeping and more! All superb and set the resort apart from other trips. The lounge/bar area is intimate and promotes a family feel with the guests. You can definitely have privacy or hang out a bit more. The guests were a mix of honeymooners, adventurers, empty nesters and one family (ours). Mostly divers. Despite it not being strictly “adults” only the resort definitely does not have a “family” vibe at all (in a good way). I read a critical post about this and honestly, the honeymooners were closer in age to my teenagers (15 and 17) than to most of the other adults and everyone, regardless of age, was just interested in having a nice, quiet vacation and enjoy the ocean. Overall, Qamea Resort and Spa was an absolutely perfect vacation if you want to dive your heart out and also get pampered!

Our needs are quite multidimensional, and this place ticked all our boxes. First, the diving - a very good dive operation with good boats and gear and a great dive guide. The best dive sites are a 10-15 minute boat ride away, and the quality was outstanding ! The very-nearby dive sites are much more affected by cyclone damage, and the snorkelling off the beach at the resort really isn't worthwhile doing unless you've never seen a tropical fish before. But get on the dive boat, travel 10 minutes, and the coral and fish quality is EXCELLENT. There are also boat-based snorkelling trips, which I would strongly recommend. When we were there, dives left at 8:30am and 10:30am, returning to the resort between dives for a hot drink and a snack. Suit-up before you get on the boat, and take nothing with you on the boat. We didn't even take a hat, towel or sunglasses - the boat rides are so short it's really not necessary. Giant-stride entry from the larger boat, or backflip from the smaller boat. It was an absolute delight to see such vast quantities of undamaged coral. And of course all the fish. For us, quality diving is only one component of a successful family holiday. Qamea ticked boxes in our other areas as well - accommodation was great, and the food was really good. And of course, friendly Fijian people that shake your hand and look you in the eye. Some of the reviews here complain about maintenance and various other things. But understand you are in a fairly remote part of the world. We had absolutely no complaints. Our expectations were totally satisfied. We took the optional food package and I think that was the right choice. My analysis beforehand based on our family eating tendencies suggested it was a line-ball, but taking the food package means you just don't have to worry about it. Most other guests seemed to have gone the same way. The spa is delightful - just a few metres up the hill behind the resort, but like entering a whole new world. We were a little unsure about the lack of a jetty and the need to wade ashore upon arrival, but the guys get the boat right up next to the sand. It's more like ankle deep water. Really not a problem unless you're wearing long pants, shoes and socks (in Fiji!??) Drink prices were quite reasonable (again, considering where you are).. Like everywhere in Fiji, tipping is not part of the culture but a donation to the staff fund is completely appropriate. My guideline is whatever you spend over the bar, match that with a staff donation upon checkout. The complimentary wifi was, as promised, very slow. You can do your essentials, but you're not going to be surfing the web for entertainment, looking at photos, and definitely no streaming. Surprisingly, we did have phone coverage at the resort, although the 3G was even slower than the wifi. For us, a quality resort with abundant easy diving very near by,

My wife and I recently returned home after spending a very nice week at Qamea Resort. So many good things to say, but there were also few things we wish we'd known about, namely that, despite its claims of being an "adults only" resort, there were several families with kids, which may not make for the best honeymoon setting. First, the positives: * The staff was incredibly nice. From the moment we stepped off the plane, Qamea always had a friendly face ready to help. * The food was amazing, and the convenient meal plan made things really easy. Everything was fresh and delicious. There is also a band that plays every night at dinner, which we grew to look forward to. * We loved the pool and hot tub. * We had a basic room, which was nicely furnished and cleaned twice a day (though staff will honor the "do not disturb" sign if you want privacy). Our AC worked, the shower had plenty of hot water, and we had internet access, which we didn't use much but was there when we did. However, some things that you should know if you are thinking of booking a stay at Qamea: * This is a family resort. Qamea promotes itself as being an adults-only resort, which you'd think would mean peace and quiet, but during our week-long stay there were at least three other families with kids. You have to read the fine print on their web site to see that, actually, they welcome anyone over 12. So if you want a genuine adults-only stay, as one probably would for a honeymoon, you may want to consider looking elsewhere. * The resort is clean, but you will have to deal with bugs. After finding a cockroach in our bathroom, the resort sent someone the next day to our room -- unannounced -- who sprayed pesticide inside. Probably something they should give you a heads-up on. Also, beds have mosquito netting, but you'll want to use inspect spray at all times. But it's a tropical island, so it's not the resort's fault. * The grounds are beautiful, but there's a price: hours' worth of loud landscaping equipment every single day between breakfast and lunch, even in the rain. If you are out of your room, it won't be an issue, but if you are hoping for some late-morning quiet time, it's not going to happen. * There are free activities every day, but during our stay two of them were canceled with no advance notice. If there's something you're hoping to do, you may want to confirm it's happening. In all, we had a very nice stay, and I can't say enough how much we enjoyed the local staff, who were very friendly. Not sure if it was a coincidence, but during our stay, literally 100% of the guests were fellow Americans, Happy to recommend Qamea...just wanted to share a few things we learned along the way.

Response from OwnersAtQamea, General Manager at Qamea Resort And Spa Fiji
Responded Apr 9, 2019
Bula vinaka, Mcarpo! Many thanks for your nice review of Qamea! How wonderful and exciting you were here with us from winning the Wheel of Fortune prize! So cool! We are truly pleased you and A enjoyed your stay with us and all the comments about our amazing staff, the fresh and fantastic food, along with our great amenities are certainly wonderful comments we often hear, and it pleases us you felt the same! I do want to address some of your comments. You had mentioned to Nina - our director of sales - who was here during your stay that you had indeed read beforehand we were 12 years and up. Therefore, I'm sorry if this was still a surprise to you when we had one family with a 13-year old daughter who was quiet and sweet as could be. The other family was a family of 5, with their adult son and his wife, and their adult daughter who was 22 and in university. I'm not sure why their family would have been a bother. Other than those two, there was no third family during your stay so I'm a bit confused. Yes, we do have some bugs. We are in the heart of pure Fiji and not in the "concrete jungle" of Nadi or Suva. We appreciate your comment and are happy you stated it's not our fault as it is nature. With that, Mother Nature thrives and grows so quickly here. We're actually quite fortunate with our beautiful, luscious grounds and surroundings, but yes, we need to keep up with her healthy spirit! We do apologize the sounds bothered you. If you would have mentioned to us the sounds of the mowers and such were disruptive, we could have easily rescheduled your area for another time. We also want to apologize for the cancellation of the activities. We had very, very heavy rains for a few days during your stay and the activities you wanted to do (treks) were flooded out. It would not be safe to bring you. We hate to cancel last minute, but we always try to be hopeful everything will be clear, so we wait as late as we can vs cancelling too early. Again, Mother Nature can be overly-energetic! All in all, we hope despite a few of the bits you found unfavourable, you will always remember Qamea fondly! Best wishes to you both and we hope to see you again! ~ The Qamea Resort and Spa team
