If like us you are looking for a somewhat remote island paradise with the possibility for some epic waves Maqai is the place for you. The island itself is like a post card, a beautiful white sandy beach surrounded by crystal clear waters and plentiful snorkeling metres from the bures. The bures are clean, comfortable with a small bathroom (with hot shower) and deck where you can relax and watch the waves at the nearby breaks. A perfect base to find waves or do one of the many day trips. However the highlight of the resort is the staff and hospitality shown by cathy, wani and the whole team. Each morning all the staff from the gardeners to bar staff would stop and chat and were generally interested in the plans we had for the day. (A day that finished with us getting schooled in the daily volleyball game.) All the staff would help arrange the trips to the surf breaks and if the waves were no good snorkel sets where taken so you could explore the reef as an option. Unfortunately we didnt get the best surf over our stay but you could see the waves would be amazing if we got slightly bigger swell. The snorkelling trips however were unbelievable! Tip, Take the trip to Michel's Reef. This holiday for us was to engage in the true fijian culture and therefore we tried to get to know as many staff as we could and they truly treated us like long lost friends/relatives. We visited the local village and chuch service with Jon and the whole village was welcoming and made us feel warm and accepted. A massive thanks to the whole team at Maqai truely the best holiday ever and we hope to be back in March 2021. Thank you again, Pete n Nat.

What makes this place special is the people. We felt welcomed from the first walk up the beach until we were serenaded into the boat for the last time choking back tears. There is a genuine Bula vibe from all of the staff who consistently went above and beyond to ensure we were having fun and tailor made experiences to suit our interests outside the scheduled activities. The generosity of the staff extended beyond what we experienced anywhere else in Fiji with our guide even taking us to his village to get his personal fishing gear when the equipment we brought was unsuitable. The Beachfront Bure was comfortable, clean, rustic and cozy with all of the little details thought out like a foot rinse tub at the front porch so you can minimize the sand tracked into your space. The food was excellent, fresh and tasty and catered to special dietary requirements within our group. Thanks to John, our bartender, for the excellent cocktails, our personal favourite was the Banana Colada. We especially miss the music and Kava after dinner every night. Huge thanks to Mosi, Uli, John and Josh for guiding our surf, snorkel, hiking, spearfishing and village tours. Our 2 village visits were definitely highlights. The genuine warmth and hospitality of the locals made us love this place even more. Thank you Cathy, Wani and all your wonderful staff. We highly recommend Maqai Eco Resort and we can't wait to get back. Vinaka Vaka Levu, Brian and Abbie .

Amazingly beautiful location, comfortable bures, friendly staff and delicious food (thank you again Fabeyonce - we miss your food so much xx). The staff also provide wonderful guided outings. Thank you to Mosi for the snorkeling trips and for climbing for fresh coconuts and thank you also to John who was a fantastic guide through the Bouma Falls walk. Thank you Cathy for making sure that our holiday was perfection. We miss hearing the waves and feeling the ocean breeze. Highly recommend this place and would definitely return.

The staff were all so warm, welcoming, and friendly I had so many memorable experiences with them during our stay there, including them baking a special birthday cake to help celebrate my birthday! Food was delicious and the resort was total serenity with it's beach front location surrounded by jungle forest. I was lulled to sleep each night to the sound of ocean waves and never got enough of the scenic views of the crystal blue water and colorful fishes and sea life.

What a magical place. The authentic Fiji. A beautiful oasis of relaxation and bliss. The location is stunning. A remote paradise of sun, snorkelling, chilling, eating, sleeping, switched off from the outside world, canoeing and island sightseeing- a visit to the local church on Sunday is a must - the voices of angels ! But most importantly for me was the surf - pure Maqai magic! We had the perfect conditions - some days smaller 3-4ft some days 5-6ft / glassy and hollow ! And just enough water on the reef - perfect for all surfers from beginners to the pro’s. The food was outstanding! 3 wonderful meals a day - and lucky for us we had a freediver amongst the guests who very kindly supplied us with fresh fish! Fresh fruit, fresh fish and homemade cakes ! A dream come true. The Bures were very comfortable and clean - every day my bed was made and every night the sheets turned down and mosquito net around the bed ! And best thing was they were literally 10 steps from the water - listening to the waves at night drifting off to sleep and waking with the sun in the morning. The days drifted blissfully into the next, sleep, surf, eat, rest, surf, massage, eat, play ping pong repeat !!!! Thank you to all the staff who made the holiday feel like I was home - Cathy, Wani, Johnny, Favi, Lucy, Uli, Josh, Navo, Bale, Peli, Mosi, Seri, Emosi, Joseph, Ukele and everyone else I’ve forgotten - you are the happiest people I have ever met - you made my holiday pure joy ! And who could forget Suki - the worlds most chilled, relaxed Dog! I want to come back next life as Suki !! A huge Vinaka to Maqai Surf Resort - I will be definitely be back - until then keep smiling guys - big love to you all 🏄🏻‍♀️ Fi
