I visited not long after cyclone Winston hit and was the only visitor at this time as they had suffered some damage. They were rebuilding the resort. The staff are local Fijians from a nearby village, very honest and kind and from what I understand are paid fairly. They went out of their way to look after me for my... More

Spent three nights here had a wonderful time. Staff really look after you and the food is excellent. There is a lovely communal atmosphere- a great place to meet other travellers. Lots of activities on offer (some free).

I use to visit Maqai all the time when one of the old share holders was running the place, A Mr. Hatherly. So this review is truly years overdue, but from memory Maqai is a beautiful property, with the friendliest staff who Ive made life time friends with and still keep in touch. Most of the workers are from nearby... More

To describe the Maquai Eco Resort as heaven on earth isn’t much of an exaggeration, so long as you’re not the kind of person who’s prone to first-world problems. The resort is particularly popular with the surfing crowd, but has plenty to offer non-surfers as well. Our non-surfing family of three, including a four year-old child, spent a marvelous six... I have just returned from the most AMAZING holiday ever! Maqai truly is paradise, white sandy beach, swimming and snorkeling over bright colorful coral, stunning fish and starfish right off the beach of Maqai!! Afternoon trip to snorkel on a ship wreck an absolute highlight! The staff are soooo friendly and dedicated to making sure you have a great time.... More

Maqai Eco Surf Resort is a great mid-range place to hang out. Costs are more than backpacker hostels but far less than other Taveuni upscale resorts. The beach-front bures are kept very clean, and the beds were quite comfortable. Visitors not used to South Pacific summer heat & humidity might find the bures a bit on the warm side at... More

Heavenly stay at a lovely well kept clean and tidy resort. The staff were absolutely wonderful and made us feel like royalty but like old friends at the same time. The food was fantastic and most tastes were catered for. Rooms were hot but tastefully decorated and spotlessly clean. Beds were very comfortable. Outside shower and toilet were novel but... More

We stayed at Maqai for two weeks - we wanted a quiet and chilled out break, away from the stress of the world. We loved the idea of glamping as we are not glitzy "look at me" type of people. We liked the idea of going barefoot to our meals, not having to glam up for a meal or worrying... More

What a great place to stay! Remote and secluded. Great food. Snorkeling right off the beach. The people who work at the resort are ultra friendly and make you feel at home. Perfect for those looking for a chill place to stay - but don't need every single amenity.
