We as a family of 6 stayed last week. terrific staff, great food and overall one of our best holidays ever. OJ is the dive master and probably the best teacher and dive instructor we've had. We completed our advanced diving certification and couldn't be happier. Highly recommended.

For context, our family of two adults and two children under the age of 9, have never been to Fiji. Our agent had booked us 12 days in total, with 7 first ones at the Shangri-La. Long story short, it was not our type of holiday and after the 3rd day we called Vomo and plead our case to give us an extra 2 nights and bail from our current place immediately. We were successful and onboard the Vomo speed boat before we knew it. As soon as we stepped off the boat and onto the shore, we knew there was something special here. Nathan, whose beaming smile could open a stubborn coconut, drove us to reception where, waiting for us, was a group of staff with guitars...ahhh, I won't spoil it. From the moment the song finished and we were taken to our villa, which was beautifully appointed with all the things you need including a great bath with a view, your own deck looking out onto the white sand and crystal blue Pacific Ocean. I could go on for far too long with this review, so I'm going to truncate it into the key moments, experiences and reasons why we booked another 10 nights. STAFF: The Fijian people are my one of favourite in the world. They are warm, caring, helpful, genuine and authentic. They love to laugh and have an infectious energy. They're seriously our kind of people. The staff were the perfect embodiment of the above description. From the executive/senior management to the bar and restaurant staff, the babysitter, the General Manager, to the legends who collected coconuts from the trees or cut the grass; we never had an interaction that wasn't anything but joyous. FOOD: I love my food, as does my wife. We were told to lower our expectations in Fiji. What a stupid pointer. The head chef, a Tassie chef who's worked in some serious kitchens throughout his career, has created a dining experience that has variety, freshness, innovative, considered and simply delicious. Next level chef! Chris, the sommelier, is such a dude. He's turned around the wine list and there's an incredible varied selection. ACTIVITIES: Plenty to do including a chip and put 9 hole golf course, spa/gym, amazing kids club, daily snorkelling trips, swim with sharks, yoga and SO much more. OVERALL: It's hard to capture something truly magical in words. You'll just have to take my word for it and, well, go there yourself. A HUGE THANK YOU FROM YOUR NEW VOMO FAMILY - THE JAMIESONS!

We spent a week in Vomo with the whole family of 4, we were booked in one of the hillside villas which was super quiet and with a view from above on the island and the ocean. The treatment was full board, I must say that the holiday was almost perfect, almost only related to the transfer arriving from Nadi to the island by speedboat on which I prefer not to linger. In fact, we modified the return by booking it by helicopter by paying an extra charge compared to the transfer we had already booked with the boat, the helicopter transfer is absolutely worth it, highly recommended, for the rest during the stay I vote 10 to the food both to the restaurant at the lobby next to the family pool and to The Rocks restaurant which is located on the opposite side of the island and next to the pool reserved for adults, rating 10 also for activities both those available for free and those for a fee. If it weren't so far from Europe I would go back soon but never say never in life, Bula Bula to all the fantastic Vomo team !!

My wife and I visited Vomo Island Resort in March 2022. We have previously been to Fiji -- we love the people, the ocean, and the culture. After weeks of research, we decided on VOMO. The resort offered excellent vegetarian options and the food exceeded our expectations). The quality of the food and the restaurant staff were amazing. The Indian/Asian evening was particularly noteworthy plus we had avocado toast and fresh juices each morning, yum!! We are scuba divers, and we utilized the Water Sports/Dive Shop every day. We did a total of 21 dives in 14 days. Each dive was gorgeous. The Dive Masters and Dive facilities were top notch. We saw small sharks on every dive. White tip, black tip and one time – we saw either a grey reef shark or small bull shark. We were lucky to have a beautiful encounter with a 15-foot Manta Ray. Wow!!! We also came across a spectacular, massive moon Jellyfish bloom at Sandbar (a dive spot about 30 minutes from the resort). It was beautiful, impressive and a once in a lifetime underwater moment. The Captain and Dive Master had not seen anything like it! The moon jelly differs from many jellyfish in that they lack long, potent stinging tentacles. Instead, they have hundreds of short, fine tentacles that line the bell margin. The moon jelly's sting is mild, and most people have only a slight reaction to it if anything at all. Needless to say -- the diving was awesome!! Most of the time, it was just the two of us, the Dive Master and the boat Captain. We could pick where we wanted to go, the dives were never rushed and bottom time was often at least an hour. The entire staff and the general manager Justin really care about each guest, which made us feel a heart connection to Fiji and VOMO. There were many occasions when the staff went above and beyond! This was a trip of a lifetime and would go back in a heartbeat! Thank you VOMO!!!

We've been coming to Vomo since it opened on and off and honestly, it just keeps getting better and better. I don't usually write reviews but I just had to say a huge thank you to everyone at Vomo for welcoming us home with such warmth and joy. Jason - thank you so much for your kindness & attitude. It was great to meet and get to know you over our stay. Huge thank you to the beautiful staff and particularly to Tim & Tila - we adored getting to you know you better. You kindness, joy and warmth is what is so incredibly special about Vomo. The Rocks adults only pool, bar and restaurant is an absolute haven. We went between here and the beach everyday for 2 weeks and I can safely say that this has taken Vomo up to a whole new level. What a stunning location, fantastic food and drinks are on offer and 99% of the time it's completely sheltered if its a bit of a windy day. Make sure to take advantage of the sunset from the rocks bar and enjoy a cocktail and canapes up there 6 nights a week and definitely don't miss spice night - the food is delicious. The villas are contemporary, clean and the view each and every morning means you can take in paradise from your bed. The bathrooms are huge and very new. The walk in robe is a fabulous addition - one we appreciated greatly with so much space to store luggage once unpacked. We loved our stay in Villa #8 The spa treatments were incredible. Over our stay had 3 treatments and could not fault them. Some of the best massages I have had in years! Thank you Pooja & Made. Island Hoppers & Craig are fantastic and the only way to arrive to Vomo if you can the view flying in and out is pretty special. vinaka vaka levu and sota tale Vomo. We miss you already.

I have been a guest at Vomo for as long as i have visited Fiji. Location is just 35 minutes by boat from mainland so its a short ride (not worth a helicopter fare). Transfers are efficient and well staffed. This is a great resort that has evolved beyond recognition. Before the 'pandemic-break' this was a peaceful, sleepy barefoot resort, designed primarily with 'retreat, recover and relaxation' stay in mind. A place where soul and body could be replenished, a true sandbox five star service, and with just around 30 rooms, a gourmet dining experience (worthy of any fine dining restaurant) three times a day giving guests a feeling of being quite exclusive and lux. A small kitchen and chefs team would prepare fresh meals daily, taking any requests and personal preferences including freshly cooked breakfasts, all full service to the table. Originally for adults, then in the last decade allowing a selectively managed number of children, with a discrete and superbly managed kids village; it was really a heaven on earth. However, in VOMO's latest invention it is a sort of Fijian version of an upmarket Butlin's holiday camp. Gone is the quiet serendipity and exclusive dining experiences, there is no sense of 'retreat' left at VOMO. This mainly due to the change in reservations policy, new resort management and new large accommodation buildings. This is now a smart resort aimed squarely at families, with big new shiny 'residences' on the once pristine beachfront, some holding 12-15 people under one roof. Two speed boats are now employed like busses to and from the port of Vuda with a new 'mini bus' run to the airport, groups arriving and leaving 2-3 times a day, its now, frankly - 'fully hectic'. Food and beverage is what you can expect when 100+ hungry mouths arrive all at once for meals; Breakfast is particularly brutal as guest scramble and fight for the last slices of pineapple in the buffet, waiting by the toaster for your own self piece of toast like you do at the Novotel Hotel, pouring yourself a juice from the self serve dispenser, waiting for your conference style pre cooked meal to be refreshed and served. All whilst dodging sugared up screaming kids smashing into the Fruit Loops, glazed donuts and creme caramel (yes self your 10 year old a Creme Caramel for breakfast!). Any sense of dietary health is completely absent. It seemed no matter what time i arrived, breakfast was carnage. Lunch and dinner - if you have luck on your side and get the timing right, you can avoid some of the chaos. About 60% of what I was served, either matched the menu description or I found was edible, inconsistency seems to be the big issue, especially with staff trying to operate two dining venues from the one kitchen as it seems guest capacity has more than doubled (maybe tripled), but kitchen facilities remain the same, leading to a lack of an A la Carte freshly made meal. So - my review is simple. The island of VOMO is BRAND NEW. If you have been in the last decade consider carefully what you seek, as a professional couple looking to wind down we didn't expect to have to retreat to our room for some peace. In fact it's so new in its latest version; i'm just not convinced the staff know what they are trying to achieve. The 'identity' of the island is currently lost in action. For example there is a beautiful adults pool area, 'the rocks'. It is stunning. But you cant go there before 10am? and theres no beach towels on hand and 1 staff member making drinks from a makeshift bar, at night you are enticed and cajoled by mangers to visit for themed dinners, which i am sorry to say miss the mark completely. I am however convinced that it's no longer luxury, exclusive, or a retreat. This may sound harsh, and as a long term very loyal guest I am more than saddened to report that the change is permanent due to the new large 'residences' facilitating the new capacity of guests and total lack of seclusion. However - It is great, almost perfect for large families and groups with young kids that maybe want more than the big mainland resorts offer but, it not VOMO anymore. I would suggest if you like group holidays (where there are other groups) this is now a great option. I am writing this in the hope that VOMO may adjust its marketing to better reflect its new identity, once if figures it out, and honestly communicates to us faithful guests - 'we are different now' so expectations (or other arrangements) can be manged. My partner and I wish you luck, and maybe one day when we have the kids to bring along, we will see you again.

Response from Justin King, General Manager at Vomo Island Resort

Dear mantravel007, Thank you so much for taking the time to review of your recent time to VOMO. As with the below review by your companion, it is clear to point out that we have not in any way extended the number of people that we have on island at any given time for more than 6 years. Your comments about double or triple the amount of people on island are just not true. What is concerning is that you did not get the same sense of place that you have felt in the past. This is simply inexcusable, so I must apologize unreservedly. We have been so heartened by the amazing feedback since our reopening, however just one less than stellar review is taken very personally by the entire team. Despite closing for more than 2 years, we are proud of the way that we have overwhelmingly received incredible feedback from all of our return guests, so again I urge you to contact me directly so that I may understand how best to rectify your belief that any service deficiency that you received is in any way permanent. I remain at your service, and truly hope to hear from you soon. Warmest Regards Justin King

This was a premier luxury resort - not anymore. Let’s say that just a 35 minute boat ride from the Sofitel and Raddison at Port Denarau there is now an island sharing the same; pack them in, feed um cheap (charge like a bull) philosophy. What was once a fairly exclusive island retreat is now arguably a ‘family getaway’ destination; on this last trip I counted 24 kids in the main pool, all under 10. Things change. VOMO has transformed. Now boasting large concrete residential homes, built like big luxury sheds on the northern fringes, for dozens of people, the island (which is not big) can hold over a hundred guests. My last visit we would see only 40-50 other peaceful holiday makers, lovers and quiet small families.. The management is all ex Accor Hotels, and that Novotel feeling has arrived, and I can’t see it going anywhere, it’s just progress I guess.. I was a guest, nothing more, with a team focussed on the churn of numbers; no good bye from the GM and no reason to ever go back. I’m on the hunt for my new island retreat, this place is no longer for me. But, if your a family with 2-4 kids, it is probably a perfect island holiday… so give it a go. It’s still an amazing location and the Fijian staff are excellent. It’s clear my expectations hadn’t changed after about 20 visits pre lockdowns, but the place has, dramatically. Families with screaming kids - yes. Executive retreat or honeymoon - NO

Response from Justin King, General Manager at Vomo Island Resort
Responded Aug 11, 2022
Dear 1999Sydney, Thank you for letting us know of your time on VOMO, although clearly I am indeed upset to hear of your comments. We are a small property that prides itself on delivering an exceptional experience every single time. If we have failed on this occasion I must apologize unreservedly. 1999Sydney your comments about the feel of the island is unsettling. To clarify, the resort has not changed its capacity in any way in more than 6 years. While it is true that we have built and launched a new residence, we have actively held back three villas from sale to ensure that the resort is not at any time feeling cramped. We still house exactly the same amount of people albeit in 25 resort style villas, and 5 residences. Our fully occupied resort generally holds 100- 110 guests at any one time, and this has not changed at all. Naturally as a family friendly resort there are a number of children over peak holiday times. What has changed is the addition of our adults only precinct and a greater choice when it comes to adults only dining through the week. The island itself has 6km of coast line, and 250 acres of land. I am therefore at a loss where the chaos that you described may have come from. I have sent you a personal message to encourage you to make contact with me so that I can better understand this as well as the sense that the property was any way Novotel like in nature. Despite your comment, I or our executive team have never worked in Accor properties with one exception of our Director of operations more than a decade ago. Instead we all have a distinguished pedigree in small luxury hotels so I am keen to understand where this feeling may have come from. We maintain a great sense of pride in what we can accomplish on our small (but passionate) property. I am sorry that we got it wrong however we are determined to rebuild your faith in us. Again I would urge you to contact me directly so that I may help to understand how we can best do this. Yours sincerely Justin King

We don’t usually write reviews but felt others deciding on Fiji need to know about vomo. We were recommended the island by friends who went pre covid with little kids, and from what I can tell it has only IMPROVED! We travelled with a 2 year old and were met at the airport, taken to a boat by friendly staff, had a lovely boat trip, and we were met at the other end all with friendly door to door service! They sang to us a welcome song on arrival, and went through the basics, and took us to our villa. We did half the trip hillside and half beachfront (we booked late and were just lucky to get in!) and if/when we return we would choose hillside again as it was spacious, secluded and WHAT a view. We only had 4.5 days and 5 nights and it actually was plenty of time to do hikes, walks, snorkelling, kayaking, travel to little vomo, play in kids club, go to the spa and spend HOURS at the beaches and pools. The drinks were fabulous, the food was great and restaurant quality (in fact by the end we almost craved something lighter and less restaurant quality lol) and the staff were SO friendly. If you want everything included, picture perfect beaches, and 5* yet friendly quality look no further. Our son loved kids club and if I could improve anything I only wish we had been able to have a nanny to come to the villa to look after him during his 2-3 hour napso we adults could keep playing in the water! The staff were all wonderful, and my son fell in love with Judith, and still talks about her as I write this review! This is toddler and parent paradise and has everything and more! Look no further

It has only gotten better. We flew in by helicopter, where we were picked up by the Bula bus. We arrived at the front desk, where we were greeted by song

This was our second trip to this luxury resort. We are a family group and stayed in the Residence which is a 4 bedroom Villa with its own pool . It was exceptional. The beds are so comfortable and the decor is beautiful . The living room has a massive TV ( might be handy if there are rainy days ), a fridge with complimentary drinks and cupboard with snacks. Nicky , our "butler" could organise anything for us - breakfast in our villa or at the restaurant , special food requests, snorkeling trips , a trip to little Vomo , Spa treatments and transfers. We had a member with poor mobility so we had a smiling happy driver who happily transported her around the place. ( thank you to our " Venga Bus"!) The big difference from the last trip is the addition of the Adults Only pool area . WOW !! it is stunning! We had our own pool so didnt really need it but now I would come back and stay in a villa knowing that pool and bar is there as I would not hang out at the kids pool at my stage of life although I think its wonderful for young families.

Dear Gkab, Bula from VOMO! Thank you so much for taking the time to share your thoughts about our small but passionate island. Most importantly, I am delighted that you enjoyed VOMO as much as your last visit. Finally, thank you for mentioning Nicky. All of our butlers work incredibly hard to ensure that you ease into your residence as quickly as possible. I have passed your feedback onto Nicky personally, he is delighted that he could have helped to give you a holiday to remember. I do hope we have the chance to host you again. If and when that time comes I remain at your service. Warmest Regards Justin King
