Castaway Island was overpriced, their staff were under trained (or just couldn’t be bothered), the food was very average. The all inclusive dining package that is a crazy $175 per adult doesn’t include any drinks, not even soft drinks. From our arrival it was not a great impression sitting at a random table to check in, to our room which had no conditioner or body wash, TV or WiFi - when asked for conditioner the main desk told me I could buy some from their shop for $25. The adults only pool is only a quiet pool where parents let their children jump and scream and the swim up bar is rarely staffed, you can only eat at the kids pool but apparently the quiet pool no food allowed. The adults only restaurant was closed every night we were there even on the nice weather nights. We complained to management that the adult part of this resort is false advertising all management did was continue to send duty managers to talk to us and ask how we were. Nothing was offered (not even an apology), or actioned, not even a token free cocktail. We checked out two days early just to get off the island and booked somewhere else, still that staff didnt care or worried why we were leaving. There were many strange “rules” guests had to follow like certain booking times to allow them to get ready but the staff were rarely ready on time but very prompt in closing. Happy hour is $3 off the usual price so still $15-16AUD. The spa is only a hut set up in a garden, the lady was very abrupt and rude and when I requested just to have my back, arms and back of my legs done for the hour due to sun burn and then was questioned why I would want my back massaged for a whole hour.. I was told to come another day, which is declined. I have never been more disappointed in a resort more than Castaway and their inability to resolve frustrated guests complaints - the worst part is knowing how much we paid ($850 a day for two adults) for the level of service and tired property desperate for a refurb for a so called 4 star hotel. Only saving grace was the beach was beautiful.

Our family of four (2 adult sons) spend five nights at Castaway, the last week of May. We were looking for a relaxing vacation where we could really unwind, and Castaway fit this bill perfectly!! The staff could not have been nicer, even remembered our names. Many thanks to Lingo and Aseri for going above and beyond to make our stay unforgettable. The beach was perfect, there were many optional activities to keep us as busy as we wanted. Snorkeling was good, the kayaking was easy, my older son learned to sail and the three men in my family went out fishing one evening. Do not miss the Wednesday night Fijian cultural day that was really special. The food was good, enough choices and we never went hungry. The Bure was cleaned daily, there was also a turn down service. However I wish that the bathroom would have been freshened up with the turn down service, The Bure was rather dark, a few brighter bulbs would have been appreciated!! Big plus was that the water on the island is safe to drink. We chose to stay on the north side closer to the activities and we were very glad that we did. This was our first trip to Fiji and hopefully it will not be our last. Vinaka Castaway Island Resort Staff for making our stay so perfect!

We traveled on a day trip which was reasonably priced. The meal we had in the restaurant was excellent, two courses and well presented and tasty. We were a bit to find the adults only pool really wasn't as we were really hoping for a quiet swim. It seems children can swim there if they are respectful. That's fine (depends on your definition of respectful) but advertise as a family pool. The advertising also implied good snorkeling close to shore .. if it is there I didn't find it. The beach looks beautiful. I'm not sure I would enjoy staying there for more than a day.

We had 6 nights on castaway island Bure #6 which was an island bure but had a water view and so close to north beach and kids club, we could not fault anything. The staff are all amazing, the accommodation was excellent and well serviced daily. And the food was delicious. We purchased the full board option and found this a great option as we could eat at any restaurant and it was all included no matter how many times you wanted to eat during the day. We would highly recommend this resort to anyone. Families included. The kids club is great our 9 yr old went everyday made some friends and we didn’t see him much during the day and it is open until 10 pm every night. You can take bottled wine on to the island and consume in your room or take a bottle to dinner and pay a corkage fee which is about $30 FJD. We purchased some duty free and hubby bought some beer at the port and took over. Small fridge in room but isn’t very cold. You can get ice buckets from the bar though. We will visit again and next time stay for 8 - 10 nights. As 6 nights didn’t seem enough. I was sad to leave. We look forward to returning next year as we lived everything.

From the welcome on the beach upon our arrival, the welcome cocktail, personal escort to our secluded bure, to the crystal clear, warm ocean, to the beautifully presented meals, our stay was magical. The Fijian people were so friendly and warm; our group had 3 young children, who were all remembered and greeted by name and made to feel special every day. The adults enjoyed scuba diving, families enjoyed snorkelling together, and grandparents got right into kayaking around the shores. Evening entertainment was great; there was live music at every meal, but not intrusively so. Each day there were fresh flowers and bedding in our bure and a pan of water outside to rinse sandy feet before entering the living quarters. We took bottled water from the mainland as it can be expensive to buy on the Island, however it is safe to drink the tap water there. One of our little boys turned 5 while there and the staff were happy to make a cake, then all came out singing 'Happy Birthday' accompanied by guitars as they presented the cake to him at the evening meal - that was really special. I would definitely recommend at least a week on Castaway Island: you won't want to leave!
