This was our third time to come back to kauwai! The peacefulness, the beautiful scenery, the privacy and nature experience never disappoint! Being away from any business, having time off in such a cozy and homely place where you are welcomed from the heart is a unique and personal experience. Even for children, there was a lot to do! Kayaking, going fishing, snorkelling and swimming along the sandbank was an unforgettable experience for the kids. I can only recommend this little hidden paradise where you can get lost in thoughts, daydreams and be one with the Pacific and its beautiful ocean and mountain sides!!
Cloud and David are wonderful hosts and our group enjoyed full Fijian hospitality. They really looked after us during our stay. Ovalau is a beautiful island getaway and Kauwai is the ideal place to enjoy everything the island has to offer and to relax and unwind. Perfect for those who want to escape the stresses and distractions of modern living and enjoy a more simple but unique experience.
There’s so much we want to write about Kauwai Homestay! We spent two whole weeks in Ovalau FOR WORK but at Kauwai it felt so much like a retreat. Being shut out from the technological world just made it so authentic. Thank you Ani and Nau Eta for being the best hostesses ever. We will definitely be back for more🥰 By far the the best-est Homestay experience yet! TnVee_walkabout
At first you will think KAUWAI is a place out of no where. Then you will be amazed by the breathtaking view of the extending mangroves, the landing stage and the tranquility there. The most amazing thing is Eta. She is so warm that makes you feel like at home. The food she prepared is great. Though we only stay there for 2 nights, but on the second day, we felt we have being staing here for a long time. Hi, Eta, I am sorry to write my review so late.
i stayed here for 3 nights and had a fabulous time, would recommend this place to everybody. You can find an amazing atmosphere and A must do in Ovalau of course, beautiful views from the top and lots of free activities...
I had a very happy weekend stay in late August 2018. From the communications prior to arriving I was made to feel very welcome by Cloud. Cloud is short for "Claudia" by the way. I was very fortunate enough to be staying the same weekend as the local Ex-Pat hiking club from Suva ... and Cloud made me most welcome to join their full day trip / hike to neighbouring Moturiki Island ... which was a great experience. The retreat is actually close to the main road (not at all noisy though), so it's not too remote ... and it's easy to access by any kind of transport. The view is fantastic ... very striking ... you are on a mini plateau overlooking the sea and Moturiki Island. Hosts Cloud, David and Eta are very environmentally conscious, healthy food conscious, healthy lifestyle conscious which create a very positive environment. Highlights are mealtimes ... breakfast, lunch or dinner ... on a big low table with cushions ... on the verandah. Eta who prepared the wonderful food and Mary (I think?) her assistant joined us for dinner at the table which was great. Cloud and David can give you so much insight to Ovalau and Fiji generally and they are very kind and enlightened young people. It was also not expensive and was great value. Thanks again for a great stay! Ben W…
We stayed here as the base for our school service trip to Ovalau Island. It was the perfect place to return to after a hard day's work because it is so peaceful and relaxing. Our students loved the outside yoga area and were able to relax and unwind as well as using it as a space for reflection on their experiences. Eta was such an asset to us and helped us out in the kitchen. We loved staying at Kauwai.
My girlfriend and I were just looking for a place to stay for a couple of nights and we came across this little gem. The views from the deck are fantastic and the whole atmopshere is really laid back. It's like staying in someone's home, but with more freedom. There's a fully stocked kitchen, hammocks and a library. They have kayaks and snorkels for free use however it has to be high tide to make it out of the mangroves. They even compost and sort their garbage which is a nice change! We did find it a little strange that the prices were per head, not per room. So what we thought was $40 for the room ended up being $80. And Eta cooks AMAZING meals, however they arent cheap either. The sign there says they are $25 for lunch and dinner, however we were charged $25 for just the dinner. Eta was very accomodating though when our boat transfer was 5.5 hours late. She hung out with us and even taught me how to crack open nuts. Just another sweet skill to add to the resume!…
I had a magical time at Kauwai guesthouse! I went there to attend a yoga retreat in June 2018. From the moment I walked through the gates, I felt like I was coming home. The space is beautiful and peaceful, the hosts are among the warmest and most welcoming individuals you will meet and the meals were fresh, homemade and simply delicious (and much of the ingredients came straight from the garden!). I was impressed by the variety of edible plants grown on the property, the rainwater harvesting and environmental consciousness of the owners. If you are looking for a quiet relaxing retreat away from it all and you are interested in sustainable and intentional living, look no further. I can't wait to return!
My class and I had a school camp here and it was honestly such an amazing and beautiful place, the facilities were amazing as well as the friendly staff. Such a peaceful getaway, definitely would go again.
