The staff was not just polite, but warm & friendly

The grounds were beautiful, even in winter, & well taken care of

There were little touches of decoration throughout that property gave the hotel character

We swam in the heated indoor and outdoor pools. The indoor pools water temp was warmer than the outdoor, so we enjoyed that one much more. The whirlpool was spacious and warm.

We had a king room in the spa building. It was clean & spacious. It didn't have a balcony, but for us it was too cold to sit on the balcony anyway. The view was of the marina, which was nice.

The Local market is the place to go for breakfast. Half the price of room service with more choices and quick service. Most importantly, you can get espresso. They even have macaroons & a doughnut of the day

We golfed the second day and your resort fees include driving range balls so that was nice. It also includes fishing poles & bait, bicycle rentals (baby seats too), & helmets.

Tether ball, croquet, ping pong, horse shoes, & a putting green were all set up on the lawn & the beach. It was very nice to see that they hadn't put away the amenities just b/c it was winter & less people use them like some resorts do. They were ready for use as soon as you walked up, which felt like vacation.

The Grand Hotel is located on 550 acres of well kept property. We entered in a securely guarded gate welcomed by a friendly smile. Only registered guests are allowed to enter the property. Marriott is keeping this old southern hotel in grand style timely to the past area. The staff present southern hospitality at its best. Every staff member we met took the time to greet us and make us feel welcome. The walls of the hotel were covered with pictures of years gone keeping the history of the hotel alive. The hotel buildings are spread out over the property, but they give you a map with your room key which helps you find your way. We stayed at the North Bay building close to the swimming pool. Our building was adjacent to the main building by a long hallway. Our room was very clean, and the king bed was very comfortable. The room had a balcony that overlooked the pool area, but it was still very quiet with the balcony door closed. The decor was not elegant but fitted to the 50's time period. The room had its own refrigerator and Keurig coffee maker. (I suggest you bring your own wine, because drinks are very expensive on the property.) This is a great place to bring a family! There are so many old southern style games for the children such as croquet, bocce, put put golf, corn hole, table tennis, bikes, fishing, and a pool. The grounds are beautiful, so enjoy the trails and sit in the swings facing the bay. Bucky's has a nice area to sit by the fire at night close to the beach. Bucky's also had a fabulous piano player starting at 8 pm where you can enjoy a drink. All the restaurants had delicious food and attentive staff. We even found vegan options. (Veggie burgers at Bayside Grill were amazing!) Don't miss the history of Mobile Bay and the firing of the cannon in honor of our military everyday at 3:45. Then everyone goes to tea and cookies in the main hotel (free service to all guests). I applaud Marriott for keeping the old southern traditions! Very relaxing get away.

What a truly charming place. It is not Grand in the modern sense of the word (swanky, hip, over the top, etc.) It is grand in the sense of being everything you want and need with an immense sense of being "comfortable." A true place you and your family can relax, feel at ease and enjoy yourself. While this was our first time so have no sense of what the resort was like prior to the renovation I suspect the renovation was done subtly so not to ruin any of the existing charm. The resort is highly amenitized so you and your family really don't need to leave the grounds. And there are endless activities for the kids. The words that come to mind to describe our experience are "comfortable" and "charming".

The food we had was absolutely incredible, even something as simple as breakfast was noteworthy. (If the buffet is available for breakfast, go that route. So worth it.)

The staff is all quite friendly and helpful, though they will stay out of your way if you don't want to be bothered.

Each of the buildings I think is adjacent to one of the amenities. Our twin queen (I think it might have been listed as Bayview) room was in building 5 which was immediately adjacent to the main pool complex and Jubilee grill.

One thing worth noting. The resort is as I alluded to above, separated into about a half dozen buildings. We arrived at night and these buildings are not well signed so arriving at night, on a Saturday with a wedding on property no less was a nightmare. You have no idea where you are on property (even with their map) and there were NO parking spaces. none! So we ended up having to valet. Now, the next morning with the benefit of sunlight (and the wedding party clearing out) the resort makes total sense and is easy to navigate.

Those few minor comments aside, I HIGHLY recommend this property. It is great for a family vacation but I must admit my wife and I look forward to coming back on a couples weekend and taking advantage of the spa, golf course and some of the lounges/bars on property.

We stayed at hotel for past two nights. Have been going to hotel for around 25 years. Am Marriott frequent guest. Hotel is a really picturesque property with great views. Expect to pay up for a weekend stay. Expect slow service (property feels overwhelmed at meal time). Also, expect people to ignore the mask rule - guests apparently dont believe covid has made it to Point Clear. For us, our stay got off to a rough start when we came back to our room after dinner on first night and found the shower door in our bathroom had shattered all over the shower and floor. Engineering wasn’t clear on the cause, but noted it had happened in the past. We were moved to another room and received a small bar of chocolate to make up for the (very) late night move. The room we were moved to had not been cleaned properly, so we were delayed further in getting to sleep while housekeeping was sent for to reclean the room. Really not a great experience, but glad the extra room was available.

The room was in the Marina/Spa building, which not surprisingly has views of the Marina. If you are interested in views of the Bay, suggest you try one of the other buildings. Despite the disappointment around the move, the new room had nice furnishings/soft goods - it was a handicapped room, so the shower was really not the best (something about showers on this trip...). Marina building is the furthest from the main building, so expect a walk for meals. Parking was difficult. My experience over the years is that when the hotel is full, parking on the main property is at a premium. There is supplemental parking available, but it is a hike.

All told, trip was fine. Really could have done without late night drama on first night. Hotel’s response was ok, but not outstanding. Expect to pay up right now. This is popular place to be.

The resort is absolutely amazing. The facility is superb and the staff is top notch. Every team member extended exceptional customer service, from valet, front desk, housekeeping, pool, restaurant and activities. The staff is wearing masks and offers hand sanitizers in the public areas. Thank you!! We will be back and will bring our friends with us again. We felt save and since the resort is spread out, it was easy to stay 6 feet apart. You got a repeat customer from us for sure.

We really enjoyed our stay here for the most part. There's a lot to do and it is beautiful! The rooms were clean and service was great. Our only complaint is we had our 5 year old and he wanted to ride a bike on our last day. The signs say bike rentals end at 4 pm. At 3:32 we went to let him ride for a litte while and were told rentals end at 3:30 and that the signs are wrong. So on our last day, our 5 year old was bawling because apparently at 2 minutes past, it was too late to rent a bike. Had the signage been correct, it would be one thing. But he was very disappointed and it was very frustrating because the signs were wrong and she wouldn't make an exception at TWO minutes past. As much as it costs to stay here, that was just ridiculous. I also recommend planning meals outside the resort, because the menu prices are ridiculously high!

Thank you for your recent feedback in regards to your stay at the Grand Hotel! We appreciate you sharing your interaction at the Concierge desk regarding the bicycle rental and I truly apologize for your experience. I can imagine the disappointment from the entire family over the interaction and for that I sincerely apologize. This missed the mark on our standards of excellence in many ways and has been reviewed with our staff to ensure this doesn’t happen at any point in the future. It is our Grand Hotel Recreation Department standard to ensure that our guests enjoy our resort bicycles from 8am until 4pm, which are extended as we reach the spring and summer season. These times are established to ensure our guests safely return prior to sunset. Your feedback allows us to continue to pursue perfection in the art of Southern Hospitality. We value our guests and place great emphasis on each interaction, striving for excellence in all that we do. Gracious Southern Hospitality is paramount to our success and I apologize that this fell short of your expectations. Your loyalty allows us to refine what we do each and every day as the Grand Hotel! Upon planning your next visit, please reach out to me in advance at (251) 990-6343 so we can ensure your experience is exactly like nothing else. We certainly strive to ensure that every guest is not only welcomed but that their expectations are exceeded in every way possible. I look forward to hearing from you and learning how we can continue to earn your loyalty. Thank you for staying at the Grand Hotel! James Lawrence Director Of Recreation

Truly a wonderful and memorable experience. The efforts the hotel staff goes to in order to assure your comfort with COVID sanitizing and Social Distancing is very impressive. This was our first attempt at traveling during the pandemic and we would go back without hesitation. As for the hotel and amenities, they are everything you would expect from this hotel. We stayed for 6 days and never left the property. We used all of the golf courses, water activities and restaurants. Great hotel for all ages and families.

For starters, we had a Gift Certificate for one night. We intended to purchase two additional nights to make a nice long weekend, but after all the phone calls getting a reservation, we decided not to. Trying to actually USE the gift certificate was almost impossible...lots of blackout dates throughout the year where gift certificates cannot be used. Hmph. Due to Covid, the gift certificate was close to expiring and it took three different people and a committee to approve it, extended one month. Upon our arrival, we were treated like the Beverly Hillbillies, the clerk excused himself to get a manager who then rudely asked if we had gotten approval to use our EXPIRED gift certificate and WHO I talked to. Then she said she saw “a lot of notes in the computer”. Our room was ordinary, even tho the manager bragged about our beautiful room that we would be so very pleased with....we had queen beds, the view was looking out to Buckys outside dining area. The bathroom was very nice. Loud hallway, slamming doors, unruly kids running down the hall. If you don’t want to pay for Valet parking, you literally have to park off premises at the golf course across the street, a Country mile from the hotel. Tried to get dinner reservations at their fine dining restaurant but they were full. Ended up getting a high top table outside at Buckys. Very slowwwwww service. We were there 2 1/2 hours, had one glass of wine each, shrimp cocktail (it was fabulous) and a cheeseburger. Tables were not cleared and cleaned after patrons left, but left dirty for a long time. Seems like they just weren’t prepared for a weekend in June. The grounds are absolutely beautiful and there are lovely places to sit to enjoy the view of the bay. Several friends and coworkers have told us about The Grand Hotel and we were looking forward to it. There are many fine resorts in the south, I doubt we will return to The Grand.

I was in town looking for a home to purchase. My realtor recommended I stay here which I did. I looked at it as being a vacation as well as looking for a potential new home. The gentleman helping me to my room "Ben" was so nice and went above and beyond to assist me in getting to my room. Parking was less than ideal. I opened one of their heavy glass doors on my right foot when I arrived and thought I had broken 3 of my toes on my right foot. Luckily nothing was broken but I was badly bruised and had it not been for having sandals to wear, I would not have been able to house hunt. I had to order room service that night because I was unable to walk. I ordered a salad which came in a plastic take out box with about 1/2 cup of shrimp salad in the box and was charged over $70.00. Needless to say, I did not eat any more at this Spa. Next, when it came to rest, I was so tired but did not sleep for 3 nights because of the terrible pillows which were literally 8-10 inches thick and hard, hard foam. I actually don't know what they were made of but they did not compress at all when I tried to sleep. While I am telling all, the air conditioner when on was very cold and when it reached temperature it turned off until the room was quite warm before it turned on again. I should have stayed at a hotel in the middle of Fairhope for a more reasonable price because the high price I paid could not provide me with a comfortable room and reasonable room service. The resort was lovely and Ben was so nice. The price for an uncomfortable bed and a way overpriced salad was unreasonable.

We booked a room with 2 queen beds. At check in, the desk clerk offered a “deal” to upgrade to an Executive Suite for “just” $75 more per day. We agreed. Little did we know that we were getting a bedroom with only a king bed. This was a huge mistake for us, as we both have sleep issues. Although I should have asked, I also think that the clerk should have informed me of the change in beds.

That said, I wish we would have just kept our original reservation. There is no microwave, no wet bar, and no bathtub in our “suite.” Although we were told that we would have “awesome” views of the bay, in fact we have a view of a live oak tree.

We ordered an exorbitantly priced breakfast, which arrived cold.

Not at all happy at this juncture.

The webpage says: Children's club (free), Children's club (surcharge), Children's pool. There is also a croquet course on the bay side of the hotel. Live ducks are in and around the pond and terrace at the front hotel entrance. I would call the hotel for accurate details for children's offerings during your chosen dates.
