This is a grand old resort filled with Southern hospitality and charm. Upon arrival (by Lyft from the Mobile airport) we were upgraded to a 2 room suite in the main building (nice perk for Platinum Bonvoy Elite status). The room was on the second floor, quiet, and a bit dated, but understandably so since there is an old ambiance to the place and our room fit right into that vibe. We were there from Sunday to Wednesday so we did not have access to all the restaurants. We had a nice dinner in the main restaurant and enjoyed the drinks, service and food. We shared a pizza and both had salads. An interesting aspect to this Autograph collection hotel is the 4pm history tour, cannon fire, followed by tea and cookies. We learned a little bit about the area and the hotel, which was interesting so be sure to be around at 4pm at least one day of your stay. We did have a little trouble with transportation, not that it wasn’t delivered with a smile and great courteous service by the drivers (they were wonderful!), but the insecurity surrounding its availability was disconcerting. We sort of felt like we were asking for a big favor every time we called they told us to call whenever we wanted transportation (to the golf course, to town, to a restaurant, or the airport). The person answering the phone sort off the air of doing us a favor each time which was a little hard to take seeing as we were paying a pretty penny to stay. Our airport transport (because Lyft/Uber is not reliable in this area we were told) was $120. One night wanted to try a local restaurant and it cost us $20 each RT to get a ride. Also, the van takes folks to town only two times a day with the last van leaving around 3pm or so, so the restaurants in town at night are not really an option unless you want to spend $20 per person. Lesson to take away here? Bring a car! We enjoyed the pool. The pool restaurant has fantastic shrimp quesadillas. We were a little confused why we were charged for coke refills when we were sitting on the lounge chairs, and were not charged for refills when we were sitting at a table, but the food was good and the pool is a nice place to relax. The golf courses are stellar and we really enjoyed playing (Azalea is a big wider than Dogwood so you lose fewer balls). At the courses we saw great wildlife - including an alligator, and juvenile bald eagles. At the resort we saw all kinds of birds - especially loved the blue herons, as well as dolphins and flying fish, etc. It was a beautiful hotel campus with lots of areas to explore and walk around. We rode the bikes and the woman running the bike area did a great job for us. Next time we may try the spa…. because there will be a next time. The grand is a nice comfortable hospitable resort that helped us relax and unwind for a few days.…
Fabulous! The Grand Hotel knocked it out of the park , so to say. The property is exquisite, beautifully laid out and manicured so your welcome is warm. Check-in effortless which is a plus. Room was as booked and beyond expectations. All, literally all the staff members were on their toes. Could have stayed on ground for days. Service, Room, Staff, Food, Amenities, the entire “FEEL” of the resort is Grand.
I've been here a few times and enjoy the place. Quality hotel. Quality experiences. Quality staff. And I've been here mostly for business meetings and they've stepped up their AV/Tech staff since my last visit. It was nice to see. The hotel also won an award last year for the top hotel of its 101 other affiliate hotels. Many southern US hotels confuse being polite with service. This hotel was once that way. No longer. They get service. It was a great experience from my dinner the night before to my tech / AV crunch the next day that was quickly remedied.
Stayed during Christmas in both 21' & 22'. Stay in the SPA building and it was very nice. As a seasoned traveler it nice when a hotel meets your expectations. The food is excellent and the hotel stay is fantastic!
We had the best weekend at the Grand Hotel this weekend. Everything was perfect, from the staff being so hospitable and helpful to each part of the hotel being perfect. Ms. Vicki met us at the front desk and assisted in our every need. Our room was perfectly located with a bay view. Each restaurant had great food and service. We enjoyed the entertainment each night at Nicky’s Lounge. Amenities were great, especially the spa where we dpdd Ed my one morning.
Due to a burst hot water pipe in our home, we decided to finally check out the Grand Hotel. New to the area, our friends have raved about the resort in Fairhope, open to the public despite being primarily for members only. Upon arrival, we were greeted at a guarded gate, and received our parking passes. It felt Grand and reminiscent of Dirty Dancing as you enter the property and various guest buildings on site. We originally booked a king room in the main guest lodge, as I am six months pregnant and wanted to be close to the restaurants. At check in, the agent up sold the Marina building, explaining the views of the bay were incredible, but in order to get this room, there were only two queens. Since the guest agent talked this room up, we decided to switch. Upon our arrival, we were underwhelmed to say the least. The grand bay view was blocked by two massive trees, to which there was no view at all and the room was very small. We were thankful to have a room with hot water, but it smelled musty. Granted, we know we’re on the Gulf and the buildings are older. We showered, and headed to the main restaurant for dinner, not wanting to switch rooms and complain because it was busy. A bonus is that they offer complimentary gold cart service to and from the buildings! We had a fantastic meal, i recommend the filet and chocolate mousse cake for dessert. After dinner, we were tired so we didn’t explore the resort like we would have during the day. We did notice a large pool area, and plenty of family games to include corn hole and ladder ball. At night, we turned the fan on to be overcome by the most intense mold smell. My husbands throat instantly swelled. We had to turn the air off completely, and the room was not comfortable the rest of the night with the lingering smell. We did notice earlier in the day, there were workers in another building with a bunch of hoses. Not sure if that’s related, but something is not right with the system and should be checked out. I woke up with a rash on my face, and still have it five days later. Could be unrelated, but I did not have that before we slept there. For $350 for one night, we were quite disappointed and likely would stay at The Battlehouse over this hotel.…
We came for a conference, but chose to stay a couple of additional days for pleasure. The resort is absolutely beautiful, especially if you aren’t used to trees and water. Every staff member we encountered was extremely friendly. There seemed to be lots of activities to enjoy on the property, although we didn’t have time or ideal weather to try much of it. I enjoyed a massage and nail package at the spa, which was very nice. We also enjoyed Bucky’s Lounge and the fire pits were a great place for an evening drink. These things would have made the stay much better, #1 You cannot get room service for lunch, it’s only available for breakfast and dinner. After a chaotic day of travel and delayed flights, we arrived late in the night and slept late the next day. We wanted to rest and order room service for lunch, but it’s not an option. #2 if you take leftovers to your room, there is a fridge, but there is no way to heat them up to finish them later. I hate wasted food so this was really disappointing. #3 The housekeeping staff came by at a different hour every day (8:00am, 10:30 am, 1:30pm & 4:30pm), multiple times in one day, and bothered us constantly. It was an absolute nuisance. The first day I explained that we had arrived very late at night and we didn’t need anything because we hadn’t used anything. The second day, I spent 4 hours at the spa and expected that they’d had plenty of time to clean, but when I got back to the room and laid down for a nap, they came knocking at the door. I took what we needed and told her we didn’t need anything else. Later that day I received a call from the manager stating that I had refused service and asking if I needed anything. I explained that I didn’t refuse service, I was given everything I needed. I felt like I was chastised for refusing service and our housekeeper was in trouble for giving me what I asked for and leaving me alone to take a nap. The same interruptions continued for the remainder of our 5 day stay. If the do not disturb sign was up all morning, they would come late in the afternoon. It’s hard to relax and rest when you’re constantly being bothered about your room. Overall, we would go back, we would just keep the do not disturb sign placed on the door for the entirety of the stay.…
My husband and I made our first visit of 3 nights to stay in the Spa Building. Our room was great, had a balcony overlooking the marina. The hotel breakfast buffet was wonderful, we got a discount due to my Bonvoy status. The entire facility was lovely. My only complaint which the hotel wasn’t involved was the family across the hall from us allowed their kids to run up and down the halls, slammed their door about 15 times one evening and were loud - we thought about calling the front desk but just gritted our teeth :( I had a fantastic smoking whiskey drink in Bucky’s. Overall it was a great stay and will return. We got a massage as well. The spa is nice, steam, dry heat, Jacuzzi inside this area. The massage was decent but of course expensive because of location.
Beautiful resort on the Mobile Bay. Check I we were upgraded to a Bay View. It had been years since I had visited. The resort is more beautiful than I remembered especially at Christmas time. One of my husband and I favorite trips. We love the history of the hotel and the town of Fairhope. The hotel’s restaurants and lounge are 5 star. We plan to visit again.
Rooms were nicely appointed and spotlessly clean -- staff was extremely welcoming and overall, the service levels stood out to me top notch. Each member of staff remembered my name throughout the stay and used it often. F&B was wonderful, and I have added some pictures of some of the items I tasted -- the Gumbo is delicious and has a great story behind it
