Hotel facilities: small property with no restaurant or chilling areas. Room: my room (superior category) was very small but super clean and tastefully done. Had a window but opened into the hotel patio so didn’t offer much light. Bathroom: modern and sparkling clean! Location: right on Jonker street. Walkable to river side and all the best places to see and eat. Superb location! Breakfast: my package didn’t include breakfast but I was offered to join the buffet breakfast at sister property (7-8 mins walking distance). Decent spread, enjoyed the breakfast! Overall: very comfortable stay (as solo traveler) and would surely come back.

Not stayed here but got charged. It is RM600. It all happens because of communication error that was not specified. Ignorance is the attitude of the property. 5 star service for booking.com that has been helping me for all the coordination from a customer POV. BRAVO attitude for Gingerflower. I STRONGLY suggest you operate a LAW FIRM instead of hotel chain. If terms is your priority. And noticeably this is how you make another source of business. I am showing a pathetic condolence on such occasion to you, by viewing COVID has been impacting the decline of tourism industry for the past 2 years. was a very HARD TIME ~ ~

First and foremost, thank you for taking time to share your feedbacks with us. We would like to express our apologies that you had negative experience. We set a high standard for ourselves and are truly sorry to hear that standard was not met in your interaction with our business. Kindly be advised the detailed investigation has been carried out and the results are as follows: 1. We have received a room reservation under the name of PeiPei Loo for the date of 2nd June 23 until 4th June 23 through the travel agent - Booking.com 2. The hotel has made a room reservation as stated in the voucher. In the voucher, there are clear terms and conditions of the reservation that the guest has agreed when making a reservation through a travel agent 3. Unfortunately, on the booking date, your good self-did not turn up for check in. The hotel did not receive any changes or amendment to the booking from the travel agent as well. Due to the room has been booked and confirmed as per voucher, the hotel has held the room until the next morning. 4. The next day we immediate informed your travel agent - Booking.com of your failure to come as schedule. And the hotel has acted in accordance with the terms and conditions as stated in the booking voucher for NO SHOW case. 5. A few days later, the hotel received a phone call from Booking.com which informed you have request for refund if possible. The hotel has replied to the Booking.com if this request is made earlier before the check in date and we will gladly to assist. Anyhow, the hotel cannot give an exception because the room has been held empty on your arrival date until the next morning. 6. The hotel has proposed to Booking.com the payment for the second night, we allow to make a new reservation for one-night stay for a new date without any charges. The Booking.com said it would make the offer and after that we didn't get any response or feedbacks. This is win win situation offered by us as courtesy, as refer to your booking terms with Booking.com No-show Policy - If the guest doesn’t show up, they will be charged the total price of the reservation. 7. We are happy to assist you to produce supporting documents such as your booking voucher with details terms and conditions, proof of your failure to turn up for check in and any documents related to it as a proof. We trust the above explanation is satisfactory and answers your questions

This hotel is in a fantastic location for exploring Melakka, just around the corner from the Jonker Walk market. It is sparkling clean and the staff were very attentive and helpful, we were greeted with a cup of sweet iced tea and a cold flannel (which was lovely). We were offered complimentary breakfast at a nearby hotel but we didn't take up the offer as we weren't wanting breakfast. We had a basic room which is on the small size (they advertise the size of the rooms), it needs to be noted however that the bed was nice and big a smaller bed would make the room seem bigger but I'd choose the bed anyday! The street outside Gingerflower is busy and there is no pavement so care is needed when stepping out but it's a good street with a lovely craft store opposite and Calanthe art cafe just along the road where good coffee is served and another craft store is available with craft workshops

This boutique hotel made use of every inches of the place for the comfort of their guests. Small room but compensated with middle-high decor and deluxe shower concept. Perfect for solo or duo travellers that are looking for affordable and satisfying short stay.

For the price, this is a great little hotel. Don't be put off by the ramshackle approach. Inside it's clean and comfortable with helpful, friendly staff. Be warned, many of the rooms have no outlook, just a little atrium and some have no windows. We went for a larger one with a balcony and were very glad. Can't say we'd have sat out as it's not a romantic view! But gives you a sense of space and somewhere to dry clothes. Efficient use of space to turn reception into a breakfast area.

Dear Lindy L, Thank you for taking the time to review the Gingerflower Boutique Hotel. We hope you had a great stay with us. We are indeed a heritage boutique hotel housed in a turn-of-the-century Peranakan conservation townhouse located with the UNESCO World Heritage site of Melaka. As such, many of the original features of the building have been beautifully restored and preserved, and in keeping with the original Dutch-Straits Chinese architecture, many of the rooms have windows that look into the original airwell atrium space within the building. There is only one room in the hotel with no windows - this is due to the architecture and conservation status of the building. The description of the room is mentioned in the booking engines, so that guests are aware that this particular room has no window and can choose to avoid booking it if they prefer. Staying at the Gingerflower Boutique Hotel is indeed akin to staying in a fragment of history. However, so that all our guests have a comfortable stay, we have ensured that all the ensuite bathrooms are modern and contemporary, clad with Italian white marble and fitted with rain showers. It is great to hear that you were very glad to have chosen our larger room with a balcony with a view of the Malacca River. It does provide a sense of space, and even somewhere to dry clothes. We are happy that you have found our hotel to be of good value, and also that it is in a great location. We hope that you had the opportunity to walk to Jonker Walk and to many of the other places of interest (such as Christchurch, Dutch Square, the Baba & Nyonya Heritage Museum) which are minutes away from the Hotel. We would love to have you stay with us again when you are next visiting Melaka. Many thanks again, and with warm regards, Jo

I booked this boutique hotel from recommendations in the Lonely Planet. Room was smaller than expected and no windows except for a shutter to a tiny courtyard. Nice comfortable bed and pillows was a plus. Breakfast was limited and lacked variety. Pastries were stale. Staff pleasant but could be more proactive towards guests. Location great to china town, cafes and market.

Dear 561nicp, Thank you for posting a review of our hotel. We are very sorry to hear that your room was not to your liking, but we are glad to hear you found the bed and pillows nice and comfortable. Our hotel is a heritage hotel, and is housed in a beautifully restored conservation Peranakan townhouse. We have preserved many of the antique features that make up the unique architecture of the building, such as the antique Peranakan tiles, frescoes and airwell. In keeping with the original Dutch-Straits Chinese architecture, some of the rooms have windows that look into the original airwell courtyard space within the building. Our hotel does have rooms where the windows face the outside (street view), and we will be very happy to accommodate you in such a room in the future. Please simply let us know upon making a reservation. We will feedback to our chef regarding your comments on the breakfast. We sincerely apologise for the shortcomings as this is not our usual standard. We will certainly look into this matter. Our location close to Jonker Walk and many of Malacca's historical and cultural places of interest and famous food places makes our hotel a convenient location to stay. We hope you were able to explore on foot many of the sites that make Melaka a unique place to visit. We thank you again for choosing to stay with us and we hope to welcome you back soon. With warm regards, Jo

A great location one street back from Junker Walk. A single width shop house so the rooms are off a long corridor. Some of the rooms only have windows to internal courtyards and are also quite small, however, they are priced accordingly. Our room was a delux room and had a small balcony that over looked the river, which made it very bright and cheerful. The staff are very friendly and helpful, Ripon, who cleans the rooms was always sparky. Breakfast, included, is a mix of local dishes and toast and pastries, and is OK, but we preferred to venture out and eat at one of the many local establishment that open for breakfast.

Dear 680tonyw, thank you for taking the time to leave a great review for us. The Gingerflower Boutique Hotel is indeed a turn of the century conservation Peranakan shophouse, and we have preserved these features and architecture befitting of it being in a UNESCO World Heritage site. The rooms with windows looking into the internal courtyards (airwells) are part of this historical architecture. We are really happy to know that you have enjoyed your room, and that our hotel staff were friendly and helpful. Please let us know if you are coming by Melaka way again in the event that we can help you out with planning your trip. We would love to have you back at our hotel again. Many thanks again and warm regards, Joanne

It was clearly a deception, from the photos. The check-in was standard, not particularly welcome. We booked a so called superior room. We were given a tiny double room, basic without external window (only a window on the staircase when’s everyone can look in your room). Really too small, you can only walk around a too small double mattress (is it even standard size??). It was not even long enough, and my feet were outside the mattress, and I am not so tall (185). The decoration inside the room is non-existent, not even a local touch or a design touch. No even a "ginger" homemade fresco;) There is a TV set with ca 8 channels, all not well tuned at all, not even one proper channel was well-tuned. In the room, there is no USB plugs. Only one switch for the bed lights on one side (not convenient). The aircon was not giving enough air cold temperatures. There is a kettle in the room, a safe box, and a mini fridge wrongly enclosed in a cupboard (hence high temperatures around it). The bathroom is well done, modern, clean. Excellent shower. Breakfast is fine. Despite this hotel is new, you do not feel any particular ambiance there, or let’s say a neutral, simple, basic decoration. There are so many other hotel choices around that you could choose instead at even better prices. The morning, we were involuntary awaken once by loud discussions coming from the personnel at the reception, just below our room, we did not like it. Another unusual thing: you have to pay upfront at check-in your several nights... instead like in any hotel elsewhere at your check-out.
