We stayed at Gulf Shores RV Park for a week. All sites are level, concrete and gravel lot with full hookups: sewer, water, 30/50 power, cable tv., picnic tables and firepit. The internet was fairly strong without a booster. Between it and our Verizon hotspot, we were able to work with few connectivity issues.

The campground was very clean and cared for. We enjoyed the pool, used the pristine laundry room (3 pay washers and dryers) . There are two very clean restrooms with showers. There is a community room with full kitchen, firepit and horseshoes.

I enjoyed getting fresh seafood at Aquila’s in Bon Secour. Make the trip and save some big bucks on Red Royal Shrimp! And the red snapper was also very good.

If you have dogs, the park is dog friendly with a very small fenced area. There is also a long bike/walking path that runs down 59. There is a small park/boat slip at Little Lagoon across the street.

Down the road to Ft. Morgan you can find sandy white beaches on the gulf side and sandy beaches on the bay side. Several places are good for doggie swims. Watch for gators in the ponds on the bay side.

If you like to fish, they were jumping out of the water. Go catch some!

For a more commercial visit, enjoy The Hangout for food music and fun. There are lots of restaurants around. We enjoyed Lambert’s Home of the Throwed rolls. There is a jazzy 50’s diner, portions are huge. We did NOT enjoy Paula Deen’s, which was basically cafeteria food served family style.

Island Retreat RV Park is a great place to land in Gulf Shores!

As you enter Island Retreat, you notice the palm trees and flowers. It is rather inviting, and the staff is quite busy taking care of sites and landscaping. There is a small, well kept pool. They have a clubhouse with horseshoe pits and corn hole. While we were there, a gentleman would come on Wednesdays selling fruits and vegetables. A variety of sites are available from full on sun to mostly shady. The interior roads are paved and nice and smooth. The sites have a short concrete pad and gravel. We couldn’t fit all our jacks on the concrete. Our site was very long and level and easily fit both the MH and Toad. There is a narrow grassy area (mostly weeds) between sites. It felt a bit crowded when they filled up and there were lots of kids. It was fairly quiet in our site which was towards the back and farther away from the main road. In our site, Directv worked fine as we were in full on sun. Verizon was 4g 4 bars. Utilities worked fine. WII FI did not work most of the time and would kick you off after a few minutes. There is a bike/walking path right at the entrance to the park. It is an easy 2 mile ride to Gulf State park and more trails. Just a few miles from the beach where there is paid public parking and free street parking. There is plenty of shopping and restaurants although most of them were not open due to COVID 19. Biting bugs abound especially at night so the bug spray was kept handy. The biggest complaint is ANTS. There are sugar and fire ants, and it is almost impossible to keep the sugar ants out of the RV. They sprayed for the fire ants but those pesky critters just picked up and moved to another spot. Other than that, we really enjoyed our time here.

This place was wonderful. It was our first time taking our new RV. Laundry on site, bathrooms/shower on site if you need it. All very clean and well kept. Very friendly staff. The man at the front desk come to our site and helped us get everything hooked up and made sure we were good to go. They had a breakfast on Saturday morning for $3.50 in the club house and it was delicious. Highly recommend staying here. We will definitely be coming back. We didn't mention when we booked that my husband was a veteran, but after talking to the gentleman at the front he told us we needed to let them know next time for a discount. When we went to check out, they had credited our account the military discount anyway.

We have come through Gulf Shores with a group each October for the past few years. Island Retreat was nice enough to offer us a group rate in previous years. This year (October 2019) we arrive and the park would not honor the group rate they had previously promised us for the entire group since they had just gone up on their rates. The new rates are now about what the newer parks in the area are charging.
My point being this, Island Retreat is a decent park and was worth the rate they USED to charge. They were the lowest in the area.
With the higher rates you can find a much nicer park for an extra dollar or two per day.
It's not even the location that could explain the rate. There are parks closer to the beach, for the same price Island Retreat charges now.
Basically, if you are looking for somewhere to stay and everthing else is booked, no worries.... you'll be fine at Island Retreat.
To "put our money where our mouth is" I can tell you we've booked our group for October 2020 at a nicer park, better location, for the same price we paid at Island Retreat in 2019.
Do your research, and don't trust the pictures you see on a parks website......... (I'll leave it at that).

I booked five nights over New Year's Eve (Dec 31-Jan 5) and could not have been more pleased with the facility. From my first encounter the middle of December when I went to Gulf Shores checking out RV parks until I checked out on Jan 5th, the experience was awesome.

The grounds are immaculate, landscaped tastefully and beautifully. The sites are all concrete pads with great hookups. They all had a firepit and picnic table. The shower facilities and laundry facilities are top notch. The pool was beautiful and cleaned daily even though it was January. It looked soooooo inviting. I can't wait until a summer visit. There is a lovely club house and large community firepit also.

It's a great pet friendly RV park and all of the campers that I encountered were all very friendly and from all age groups. It was great to see kids riding around on bikes and retirees out walking their pets.

The staff that I encountered were wonderful!! Lena and Jeff were great and very helpful with questions that I had.

The facility fills propane tanks and has ice. Fire wood can be bought down at the Ace Hardware on the strip a mile and half away. Walmart is a mile and half away. There is the bike/walking trail along Fort Morgan Road that runs right in front of the park.

I've already booked 5 more night for Feb and am looking forward to another visit!!

I can see why this RV park is listed as one of the top 5 in the Gulf Shores area!!! It's well deserved!!!!!

I was riped off due to a 100.00 cancellation fee. Although, I called to cancel within 10 minutes of making my reservation, I was charged a cancellation fee which I was not informed about during making reservation nor cancellation. Later, when I noticed that only 12.40 of my total 112.40 fee had been return to my bank, I called to question it and was told that ALL cancellation fee are a 100.00 and the information should have been in an email which was sent to me. I did not received an email; most likey, due to the fact that there was no time to send an email within the 10 minute time frame. This a scandalous practice.

good sites, dog park and centrally located to restaurants and beaches. There are many sites, including pullthrough, with firepits, gravel, and concrete. Local rv repair companies and wash/wax companies come to the park.

Me and the wife stayed here in March for a week. This was our first time pulling our travel trailer to Gulf Shores but will not be our last.
Location is excellent! Off the main drag but close enough to get to ever thing quickly. Fort Morgan road can be a bit busy at times but the walking/bike trail make this a excellent location for going on a bike ride or walk to stretch the legs. With Mo's landing across the road this gives you access to bay for boating/kayaking.
We had no problems at all and hope to return with warmer weather arrives.
One thing that is not a complain but simple fact is sites are well kept and level but also crowed. No privacy at all, but we knew this coming in, just a fact of life with RV parks in very popular locations. Would stay in here again and hope to.
Amenities: Nice Pool, roads in and out very good, club house, laundry room and two bath houses if needed. Beautiful landscaping. They were working on small playground while we were there so this will be nice when completed.

Nice amenities and a very clean park.

However we had shore power voltage concerns every night of our 5 night stay. The park worked on trying to fix the concern to no avail.

The cable television hook up did not work nor did the Wi-Fi hook up to the Internet. We had to use our hotspots to access the Internet and television programming.

The staff was very friendly and apologetic however not enough to return any of our $80.00 a night fee.

We enjoyed our stay it was convenient to everything at the manager informed us we would never be able to stay there again with our RV it is over 10 years old. And has been well taken care of people don’t trade RVs every 10 years because they are very expensive. While we were staying there we sell several RVs and campers over 10 years old. She said she made exception we could stay this year but we could not stay anymore and was very adamant about it so thank you for our time there but we have taken your all’s resort off our list as we go to golf Shores a couple times a year for a week or two and while I was there I found several resorts that were very welcoming for us to be able to stay
