Travelers' Choice
Asia's first luxury hotel, The Lalit Great Eastern is a heritage landmark located in the main business and shopping district of Kolkata. Restored and renovated over a period of seven years, the hotel holds the distinction of being the longest continuously operating hotel for 165 years. Built in 1841 as Auckland Hotel, it has been referred to as the 'Jewel of the East' and the 'Best Hotel East of the Suez'. Over the years, the hotel has been the favourite haunt of royalty and celebrities from across the world. The Lalit Great Eastern, now restored to its original glory, is an amalgamation of the styles of 3 different eras of history - Victorian, Edwardian and Contemporary, reflected in Heritage Block 1, Heritage Block 2 and the New Block respectively. The original Heritage Block radiates the charm of the British Colonial Era, while the Modern Block incorporates a contemporary look and feel. These blocks have been seamlessly connected despite their distinct character and decor.

The rooms are very spacious, and the staffs are very polite and soft spoken. The food is delicious there... Specially the breakfast spread.... The alfresco, also serves very good Italian and their lemon cheese cake is worth trying.

I gave this hotel a 4 star rating only because the staff are so good at their jobs. The hotel rooms and f&b are priced well. The in-room dining menu as well as the rooms need an overhaul. The pool is a nice place to relax after an entire day's work in the bustling city.

The hotel is known for its Eternal love and utmost care for their guest or rather a visitor, the experience was incredibly good, deluxe and had a royal touch to it, the staff members were helpful and utterly sincere and dedicated towards their dury, all the staff members were good but a special thanks to " Yogesh Jat " for his utmost care and having such an astronomical behaviour towards the guest and the hotel industry must need stuff or an experienced guy like him.

Nice! Overall a complete experience. Starting from a cheerful Front Desk to nice rooms with a piece of history everywhere as it's claimed to be d first Hotel in India! Out of d three Sections d first one still has Iron beams aka Howrah Bridge feel and vintage! Restaurant is nice and with a lot of natural light. Nitpicking....Legacy Rooms lack natural light and a poor street view outside d window. Warm water temperature in d washrooms doesn't rise above luke warm. And d first smell as u enter d lobby is not nice....smells of mold & mildew of an old building.

The staff here are pretty attentive. The person who accompanied me was Yogesh Jatth. He was really helpful throughout the service. The ambiance was also pretty decent enough. The food quality was also great as well. Overall, quite a colourful stay.

It was my pleasure to book my stay in "The LaLit second time but apart from stay, unfortunately the services of restaurant was pathetic. From breakfast till dinner nothing was upto the mark. Service staff of restaurant doesn't bother of guests, which is clearly reflect from their gesture. They don't want to clear the table and don't deliver any asked service. In the breakfast time, I asked for a cup of tea but after multiple reminders it was not delivered, I wait for 30 minute but unfortunately didn't get a sip of it. All restaurant staff were busy in roaming around but don't want to serve guest. In the name of feedback form I got a letter head and a sarcastic apologize from reception desk. I am writing this feedback in the hope that the team of "The LaLit" will work on improvement.

I am going to write a review of my experience at Rejuve Spa. After along hectic week I wanted to avail their spa services. So I made a booking at Rejuve spa kolkata. I reached on time and went to the room with my assigned therapy. The therapist suggested I could have steam so after my massage I went to the next room for steam. To my horror when the steam fog cleared up I found that the drain was completely clogged with hair which means that they had made no effort to clean the washroom after the departure of the previous guest. The agony didn't end there, the hot shower wasn't working so I was hoping to go back to my previous room and take the shower and I was informed that hot shower isn't working their too. I was informed by my therapist that apparently the hot shower was working in one room which now had a guest! The therapist told me I could now take a shower in the wait area. That was really the nail on the coffin!! Lalit has really lost out on credibility as far as the kolkata property is concerned. The spa manager came and said 'it's our mistake, I am accepting it, we are not charging you for the service'! When you are going to Lalit you are not looking for favour or charity you are looking for service. My Sunday afternoon is nicely wasted. Never going back to Lalit again till they restore themselves!!
