The Ging Tea House was a last minute decision, we were not very happy staying in mainstream Darjeeling and wanted a change. We were looking for a peaceful place, away from the maddening crowd with a superb view. And that is exactly what we got in Ging Tea House. A few kms away from the Mall Road, it is peaceful and beautiful. Tucked away in an old colonial tea estate, it is a six bedroom colonial homestay. What made it special were the tastefully done up rooms and common areas with most of the facilities available in a good hotel. The food served was homely with a decent selection but more importantly served with a lot of warmth. The chef and the serving staff led by Anju were very hospitable. The Manager, Andrew and the staff notably Keval, Sandesh and Avishkar were courteous and took care of us while we were there. The only downside was the price. It is nearly double, much more what one would pay in the better hotels in Darjeeling. But for us, it offered us an experience that we shall treasure !!!

in view of the post covid rush of tourists we could not manage a room in a good hotel like Mayfare etc in darjelling city . However read very good reviews about this property on travel sites and though sceptical [ as it was about 15 km away from the town ] went ahead and booked the hotel for two night . It was quite a pleasant surprise post that starting from the call from the hotel organising henpeck up , checking on dietary prefeemnces . The most pleasant surprise was the beautiful location [ located in a tea garden of more than 250 acer ] , good rooms, out standing service by Andrews and team and the testy and homely food. Ideal to go for the package which includes pick up and drop from the airport , city tour, all meals as well as visit to the tea factory etc

Spent 3 nights from 29th Dec,2020 till 1st Jan,2021 with my family.Located in the lap of Ging tea Garden in lebong valley 8km away from the hustle and bustle of Darjeeling city centre. Last 100m of the approach road was terribly bad.The property owner should look into the matter quite seriously as they are charging a significant amount in Victorian plan. The 6 rooms are quite spacious ,well maintained, have all the facilities as one could expect. The manager Mr Andew is a courteous, young gentle fellow who is always ready to help you out.The other staff are very polite, obedient and sincere to their service. But a disappointment is their food and chefs. The food served in breakfast, lunch and dinner lack variation and palatability. I and my daughter suffered stomach upset following second day lunch because of stale curd served in lunch.Considering their rates in Victorian plan which is full board, as a traveller we have expected something more. This areas need serious improvement to make it no 1 as staying destination in Darjeeling.

While the location of the property is quite scenic, we did find quite a few issues that we must highlight;
The rooms & especially the bathrooms need quite a lot of uplift and refurbishing considering the rates you charge and we are not sure post covid and your opening after such a long time if the rooms were thoroughly sanitised and cleaned as we found them to be musty and moist. They should have been aired out properly and prepared well for our arrival. We found also quite a lot of inspects and bugs and we were surprised to hear that there was no anti-insect/bug sprays or even that the windows did not have nets so as to prevent bugs from entering the rooms.
The water pressures in the washrooms are seriously low and the water in the showers is a trickle and you do need to install power showers or some method to increase the same in the rooms. The hot water is also an issue and we have had to complain many a time about the same. The bathrooms also need a fresh new look and our quite dated.
While at the booking time our family had clearly stated our food requirements on that date we arrived none of the food items we requested were available and it needed to be bought from Darjeeling and that would take a day. If the owners and their team were aware of the same then our simple question is why was it not bought in advance and made available for us. There was no pre arrival preparation done.
While the taste of your food made by your Chef Rajat is good, the quantities that they provide is seriously not in keeping with any standard. If they say that the rate includes all meals then they should let their guest order as they like and the quantities must be in line with the number of people.
Their deep freezer was not working and thus there was no ice or provisions to chill drinks and after pushing their team they somehow managed some ice from outside. The same applies to their washer dryer which was also not functioning. If they claim to be a 5 star hotel which in our view you are not, then these basic amenities should be available and they should have teams at site to keep these essential equipment running 24 x 7.
What is also surprising is that post a certain time there is no one available on the property to assist or help and we need to do basic things ourselves such as switching off lights, cleaning up etc.
One afternoon was the icing on the cake when we were surprised to see a bunch of people entering the property to have lunch. This is not acceptable during this Covid period and during this pandemic for them to allow outside people made us feel unsafe and uncomfortable. All hotels/home-stays during this period do not allow outside guests and this is a standard Covid Norm. This is also stated in their policy but they still did the same.
Was a disappointing stay and it is unfair for the owners to say that they are a 5 star property as they are not! They are a basic homestay and for what they provide they are extremely overpriced.
I would recommend that this property be avoided as there are many other nice hotels and home-stays in Darjeeling.

Response from Ging Tea House Darjeeling, Owner at Ging Tea House

Dear Sir, Thank you for staying with us and choosing to extend your stay. Also we will extend your complements on good food and service to our team. To address your comments - We are a British Colonial heritage Bungalow and seek to provide to our guests an experience of life in the tea gardens. Our website clearly reflects what we offer. It is a pity we are compared to 5 star modern hotels of the city. We are experiencing monsoons in the hills - hence the insects and bugs are common in the wilderness of the the tea gardens. We do follow regular bio insect repellent techniques but refrain chemical fumigation since we are a certified organic tea garden. For the comfort of our guests we suggest keeping windows closed in evening, provide coils and repellent creams. Our package include set meals that are pre-discussed with guests. We provide 4 meals and requests outside of our menu - which was a common request by the group may cause delay - as we try and procure food daily and as fresh as possible. We are sorry you felt we did not prepare for you in advance. Our large team work in shifts and also through the night. Since the hills get dark and unsafe we inform guest on arrival of our service timings. Unfortunately the group's meals timing into the late hours of midnight restricted them from experiencing our best. Also our night staff do come on rounds post the guests have retired to their suites. Lastly, your group made partial booking of property and rooms were available for other guests . Also we offer tea tours and lunches to guests. They are restricted to common areas of the property and not enter the private suites of guests. Your expectation of using the property exclusively despite booking it partially was baseless and without any commitment by the Ging Reservation Team. Due to Covid restrictions on movement form Siliguri to Darjeeling some repairs could not be undertaken immediately which may have caused some discomfort for you . We regret it deeply. We hope you made some happy memories in Darjeeling. Warm Regards Ging Tea House - Management Team

We went there seeing all the reviews and the pictures online and hence had reasonable levels of expectations. First off the place is very cut off from the city, easily a. 30-40 minutes drive. Secondly the place is not maintained well, you can smell Mold in the place, walls have cracks, bathroom shower cabin door is hard to move. Tata Sky connection was turned off and took a a good one hour plus to turn on, this should have been turned on before the guest arrival. The food provided is average to say the least, the staff serves food and after one helping take it away ! We asked for honey and were provided with a watered down version of it. For breakfast the jam that was served was Kissan Jam ! The toiletries provided in the bathroom are not even enough for one person and not of a great quality. They charge more than 21 K a night when you get the likes of Elgin and Wyndamere at half the price providing a far superior client experience, service levels and product to the customer. The place is like circuit house or a government guest house of the bygone era which has sadly not been maintained at all. On the plus side I will like to acknowledge Mr. Andrew and Kausik for being understanding and issuing me a refund for the remainder of my stay. I write this review only so that people can be aware of the reality and make a more informed decision.

1)It is a 3* HOMESTAY not a 5*Hotel as potrayedon their site
2)Rooms have very high beds and no power points work properly. Also dimly lit.
3)Toilets are shabby ,not well lit,and water in shower area is a bare trickle.Hot water is an issue
4)Too many mosquitoes ,only on our insistence Mosquito coil was bought n lit every evening
5)Inspite of the fact we had booked 5 rooms out of 6 for 5 days, visitors were allowed to enter the premises and have lunch.Neither were we informed of this before hand nor was the staff capable of serving in-house guests along with walk-in visitors. All our belongings were lying open to their visitors. Moreover the owner had promised us that due to Covid strictly no visitors would be allowed but Shilpa their owner did not adhere to her own policy.
6)No staff stays beyond 9pm...whether it is for dinner or to close lights, doors etc....We managed as we had already paid in full beforehand... moreover housekeeping is done once in the morning..this is the main reason it is a homestay n not a hotel
The only saving grace is the View , Staff service and home style food

Dear Ma'am, Thank you for your choosing to stay with us and extending your stay after experiencing it for 3 days. To address your grievances - The most common complain by your group with 3 reviews here is that guests were allowed in the premises for Tea Tour and Lunch - We at Ging Tea House at no point had promised full exclusivity of property to your group against your booking of 5 suites only. We had suites available during your stay which we did offer to other guests. We would have been very happy to provide the place exclusively to you incase we were enquired about it at the time of booking. We follow all Covid safety protocols of the Government while hosting our guests. Our policy is also to host guests for tea tour and lunch who are restricted to the common areas of the property and do not disturb guests in their private suites. We are a colonial heritage bungalow refurbished with modern amenities offering a life in the tea gardens in the British era. We are not a 5 star property chain of the cities and never claim to be one. Our website clearly reflects in clear pictures what our property is like. We have antique furniture including 4 poster high beds. We do provide step ups for guests who have difficulty in getting into beds. During the monsoons we do get insects as we are a tea garden property - and suggest guests to keep windows closed in the evenings. We do undertake bio friendly insect repellent techniques and refrain from chemical fumigation since we are a certified organic tea garden. Thank you for your review and your grievances have been attended to immediately. We hope you made good memories in Darjeeling. Warm Regards Ging Tea House - Management Team

An impromptu trip to Darjeeling with an objective to be away from the bustles of the town while also offering an opportunity to visit the town for occasional walks along the Mall Road - Ging Tea House caught our attention.
While staying at a Tea Estate has always been on the cards, Glenburn with their other worldly rates did not inspire much. Lately, there have been a number of options coming up across our favourite hill station in the World and Ging was the no.1 choice. First of all they offered exceptional value and more so for Travellers planning to spend one night.
We stayed 2 nights during an extended weekend. Right from arrival, every possible details have been well sought and taken after by the wonderful staff. While Andrew (Estate Manager) was a gracious host, the real superstars are Prashant, Anju, Isha and Chef Rajat who made our stay a brilliant one! From accompanying us to the Tea Processing Plant and across the rolling hills for some friendly chat with the local tea estate workers to meeting our incessant demands for food, they truly made the difference between an Excellent Stay to an Exceptional One!
Rooms are brilliantly decorated with careful attention to details. The gazebo is a spectacular spot for Breakfasts and Lunches. And we were really lucky to have exceptional weather throughout our stay without any rains and spotless skies.
We are already planning our second trip to Ging and strongly recommending to our F&Fs.
Thank you!

We visited Ging Tea House in the 2nd week of September with my entire family. This beautiful hotel is situated inside a tea garden in Lebong (5km from Darjeeling) with spectacular views of the Himalayan range and tea garden around it. It is a very peaceful place with amazingly spacious rooms and very attentive staffs. All the rooms are very airy and have beautiful antique furnitures, the rooms even have fireplaces. The entire bungalow was built in 1857 by Britishers and it is maintained just the way a proper colonial bungalow should look.wherever you look your eyes just find greenery and serenity.
The butlers serve lovely food all around the day, even the tea they serve is pure Darjeeling Tea, which has it’s fabulous aroma. We loved everything about the bungalow and it’s staffs. Mr. Andrew was always there for any queries or concerns. Mr. Kaushik from Kolkata helped us with the booking and other things very efficiently.
Only concern was the water in the shower. In our entire stay in Ging tea house there was no water from the shower, Mr. Andrew even tried to help with that situation with mechanics but somehow it didn’t workout.
Other than this we had a very relaxing time in there. We hope to visit Ging Tea House soon.
I recommend everyone who’s looking for a hassle free time with a loads of greenery and beautiful views of the mountains all day long in Darjeeling they should definitely try this property.
Thank you

We spent a couple of days in an 1864 built colonial bungalow tucked quietly in the mountains (10 km from Darjeeling), surrounded by tea gardens and overlooking the snow covered peaks.
With the temperature dipping to 8° yet the bright and clear sky made the stay heavenly.
The room (Royal Assam Suite) was made warm and comfortable with the fireplace, room heaters and internal bed heaters.
The best part of the room was the bay window with cushions, overlooking the valley and mountains. An ideal place to get cosy with a book in hand and endless supply of Darjeeling tea. Not to miss the starry nights with the bright shinning moon above and the bon fire.
Ging tea House. A heritage plantation retreat.

With only 6 rooms and a wonderful food service you will enjoy a stay of few days at this tea house. We have personally appreciated the old charm of this 1860s house, the warming beds during cold nights and the daily variety of meals. Taking a tea with hills view or a breakfast on the terrace is also an exquisite moment! From there you can have a short walk in the tea garden or start a longer trek in Darjeeling or Sikkim.

On clear days, you can see kanchunjunga peaks
No. I don’t think so.
I went with my grandparents, they loved it. But most travel will need to be done by car(which is provided by the stay)
Dear Debasmita,
Unfortunately, we don't host guests only for lunch. Please let us know if we can help you with anymore information.
