Darjeeling overall is a quaint hill station with many tourists amidst breathtaking views of the eastern Himalayas. The Elgin rests upon one of the most spectacular views of the ice capped ridges (on a clear day). The hotel itself is rather gorgeous if you like old wood and

This is a very late review, had actually visited Darj and stayed at The Elgin in May 2017.... but better late than never I guess. The Elgin is one of the few remaining hotels where the Raj way of life is still preserved. This hotel is all that the various photographs in the

It is a beautiful property though land space is less. Within available land space, they have utilised it optimally. Rooms are nice and so is sitting lobby. Food is also nice and restaurant staff serves you very well.

This is a beautiful heritage hotel with beautiful sitting rooms and dining room furnished tastefully with antiques and textiles. We were in the wing dedicated to Tenzing Norgay and the first thing that struck us was the damp musty smell in the stair and entrance way. We had a

Dear Sir ! We thank you so much for your feedback and appreciation ! At the same time I would also like to apologise on behalf of my team for missing out on such an important detail in the dining room such as changing the table linen after each meal service . I have spoken with the service team members who were on duty on the day of your dinner and breakfast service and shared your feedback with them and i assure you that the tablecloths and the napkins are now being changed after each meal service which was always the norm but was overlooked . Secondly i also would like to thank you for bringing to my notice that the corridor leading to your room was musty and i have asked housekeeping to air out the corridors in the Tenzing Norgay Wing and I making a schedule so that they can follow up on it as a routine exercise. Lastly I apologise that we were out of stock with tonic water which has been orders and we are waiting delivery from our distributor in Calcutta . Once again I look forward to serving you again and I assure your that the appropriate improvements have been made. The Elgin was built in 1887 and being a listed heritage property, the Elgin management is doing its level best to preserve the history and ambiance of the property and at the same time also provide our guests with the best of the modern amenities , the idea is to strike the right balance between the old world charm of the yesteryears and the modern amenities of our current times to make the guest experience a truly delightful and memorable one . Yes they do have fireplaces but they also have air conditioning. I am not too sure of the cost but it is a real "don't miss" venue in Darjeeling

No idea - hotel prices go up and down based on demand, the time of year, etc. What I do is the following: I check on a couple of websites (not the hotel) first to see what's on offer, after that I check with the hotel and ask what they can offer. I tend to get a good price whenever we travel.
