This quintessential Raj-era hotel is all about the ambiance and taking its guests back in time. For that it is to be commended and has few serious competitors, but it is beginning to look a bit frayed around the edges. The staff cannot be faulted and go out of their way to be excellent hosts. The rooms are charmingly comfortable... More

My wife & I just returned from our annual visit to Darjeeling, or should I say annual visit to Windamere as our stay in this unique hotel is the main focus of our visit. Of course, the majestic Kanchenjunga naturally takes precedence over everything else! Once again, we were treated to a level of welcome and attention which we have... More

We stayed about five days in Windamere in October. In fact because of unseasonal rains we were practically spending most of the time in the hotel for the first three. We loved every moment of our stay. It was charming old world hospitality at its best. The management and staff led my Mrs Clarke were absolutely amazing. Our daughter fell... More

Many of the reviews here are exactly right - if you come here you have to be ready to accept the place as it is, and the way they run it. Are they trying too hard to be quirky, or is that just part of its natural charm? The service is friendly and well-intentioned, rather than polished. The furnishings are... More

My wife and I (US expats living in Mumbai) along with another couple from UK spent 4 nights staying at Windamere over Divali weekend. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay. The hotel has achieved a level of warmth and character that is only possible owing to it's 100 year plus history. The staff was always very warm and helpful and... More

We had a fantastic stay for our Honeymoon in September. The staff went above and beyond to be helpful and make us welcome. The breakfast and dinners were exceptional, and a great mixture of both Western, Indian, and Himalayan delicacies. Our room (The 'forget me not suite') was well appointed, and still had many original features. The bar was a... More

We stayed two nights at the Windamere. There is much good to say about the Windamere. The location is excellent. The rooms are generous and the meals delightful. The reception staff were friendly and the "high tea" was especially good.

The Windamere is a unique experience. It really hasn't changed since the 1930's. The rooms are quirky with coal fires and very old fashioned bathrooms, Quaint in their own way - and very British Raj. The service was fantastic with a lovely team of people and interns. The grounds and views are amazing. We discovered wewere booked in for breakfast,... More
