The Lonely Planet suggests enjoying afternoon tea here to experience colonial Britain in bygone India, but at 800Rs (not 450Rs) it's definitely not worth it. The tea includs 1 pot of CTC tea with refill, 2 shortbread biscuits, 1 scone with jam? & cream, 2 other biscuits, maybe half a sandwich cut into 4 tiny tiny triangles and a small... More

Great ambience, courteous and efficient staff and excellent food. The tea room is not to be missed. The location is very convenient for tourists but the hotel insulates you from the hustle and bustle of Darjeeling with a cosy quietude. The best time to stay here is around Christmas.

This beautiful hotel is excellently located near the Mall but away from the bustle and crowd . Takes you back to the Raj era with its old world charm. Excellent food specially western food. We took room and board package and we're delighted with the variety of food on offer. Don't miss the afternoon tea with cake and sandwiches. Great... More

The rainy season is not a desirable time to visit Darjeeling, definitely not for first-timers. Many of the common attractions are not accessible, and because of fog and rain the rest are accessed only with difficulty. However, for a returner the case can be quite different. For many years, ever since a colleague of mine stayed in Windamere and communicated... More

They say any time is a good time to go to Darjeeling . I went with my family in end of March. Summer can be cold in the evenings, Assuming it's summer I wasn't prepared. But the good thing is, down the stairs is a market where would can buy shawls, jackets and even tiny Souvenir. Apart from the wonderful... More

Experienced firsthand English style of hotel stay. Was bowled over by the service and the helpful nature of all the staff. The rooms and cottages were so pretty and antique ! Loved the idea of set meals, and am so thankful that they were able to easily accommodate customisations and requests of my children. Would recommend it completely !

I was just part of a group retracing the expedition of veteran journalist Lowell Thomas through the Himalayas. Lowell stayed at the Windamere as well as many other famous explorers like Heinrich Harrer. It was incredible to visit this stunning property and see the rooms dedicated to these and other famous visitors. Don't miss a visit!

I just love this kind of hotel - not to everyone's taste. A relic of times past and the old days! We stayed for 3 nights and 3 of us shared a room in Ada Villa, which was the old chummery of the tea planters way back. The room had a little sitting area before the bedroom, which was tight... More

A colonial property which builds up expectations so high that one at times is left wishing for more. The cuisine and restaurant are what we enjoyed most. The older rooms probably need looking into in terms of the bathrooms / toilets. Service was very warm and hospitable.
