My bf and I did a day visit to red frog beach as we were staying elsewhere on the island. I had read much about the luxurious resort and beach. However, it turned out to be awful. We paid $5 each for admission and hiked our way to the beach via the jungle path . Upon arriving what a disappointment. The beach was littered with sea and jungle debris and old washed up fishing nets and rope. The sand is dark. The chaise lounges are filthy and broken. The beach restaurant had absolutely no atmosphere and poor service from a disgruntled young man. I would not recommend bocas del toro at all but red frog was the worst.

We booked Red Frog for our honeymoon because we were confident they could provide us with the luxury experience they promised. To say they failed to meet these expectations would be an understatement. We booked a one bedroom ocean view jungle lodge and were very excited based on the photos and descriptions of the room. When we arrived at red frog we were told we could not stay in that room because it had a water issue and we were moved to a room without an ocean view. While I understand the issue may have been out of their control this was never communicated to us until we arrived. The Villa we were put in had the hot water go out three times despite the maintenance crews best efforts to repair it. Additionally the TV was broken and never worked despite several repair attempts. Having maintenance come to the unit to try fix something every day is not what I was expecting based on the price we paid. At our request when the jungle lodge became available we were moved into it. Instead of moving us into the jungle lodge we booked we were moved into a studio with no living area, no closets, no kitchen table and a unit missing many of the amenities described on the website. When I brought this up to reservations they told me this is the room we booked. If this is the case then red frog is guilty of some very deceptive advertising. To make matters worse the air conditioner did not work and they were unable to repair it. They also insisted that the air conditioner worked when it clearly did not (displaying an error code) and the unit was extremely hot making it difficult to sleep. We also had a malfunctioning bathroom door that locked us out and a microwave that did not work. When we checked out they attempted to tack on another $100 a night more than we agreed to pay when we booked!!! I brought all these issues to the attention of their manager Mario. He assured me they would “make this right” and stated that they were having a meeting about it that day. Despite my numerous attempts to contact him over the last two weeks Mario has not gotten back to me. I’ve never written a negative review but I feel like I need to let people know so they don’t get scammed the same way we did. I tried to give red frog a chance to make this right but they chose to ignore me instead. I would not stay at the resort again nor would I recommend it to anybody.

After reading the reviews, was excited to go. Been to other islands in Panama (Isla Granda) and thought this would be like that - able to grab taxi boats and go to other islands. Here, you are trapped - no ability to rent golf carts (they were out) and no other ways of travel except to call main desk and ask to be picked up / dropped off somewhere - sometimes waiting 20 to 30 minutes for a ride. Water Taxies were SUPER expensive to visit other islands and at night, the prices doubled! Total scams - no pricing in sight - you had to haggle and also carry cash everywhere. Id never eve go again, and I spent a lot of money for this trip (over $4500 for 6 days). They did send an email out before we left saying because of COVID, staff was lower, blah blha so expect some issues. but wow - i felt trapped inmy villa unlessI wanted to walk down a rocky hill to the beach, slipping and sliding down the rocks.... They build houses, people buy them, and when those people aren't staying in them, they rent them to you. If anything make sure you have some sort of personal transportation because relaying on the resort will take up a lot of your vacationtime.

We stayed here because we wanted peace and quiet and that’s certainly what we got. But it is a strange place to stay. It is definitely not like being on a hotel complex. It is individually owned houses rented out so they vary greatly. We had Villa 64. 2 bedrooms and a partial sea view, lovely plunge pool, patio and seating area and great view of the gardens. We spotted plenty of birds and sloths without leaving the terrace. There is only one restaurant currently open on the site, it has a great view of the beach. Service is excellent. Breakfast substantial and good but evening meals are average but expensive. We decided to self cater the rest of the stay. The shop on site has limited stock of fresh food so it’s best to go to the supermarkets in Bocas. $6-8 per person each way on water taxi. Our kitchen was randomly supplied with utensils, mismatched cutlery, only 2 forks and nothing to get hot food out the oven with. Salt and pepper but no oil to cook. No tea is provided and only 2 coffee sachets. Shampoo and conditioner but no shower gel. No cleaning or pool service was on offer unless we paid extra which in an upmarket place like this seems odd. In regard to the grounds, yes it is spread out and hilly. You can be ferried in a golf cart but if you walk you see so much more wildlife. The beach is nice but generally the sea is rough here. We stayed 5 nights which was enough to chill out and explore. Be warned, research what you get for your money. We spoke to a couple who had part of a beach front Villa but no access to the kitchen part of the house and very limited facilities. Other places have pools totally in the shade or no views of the sea.

We just spent 5 nights at a villa at Red Frog Beach Island “Resort”. As someone posted a short time ago…this really isnt a resort in the true sense of the word. It seems to be a collection of VRBO’s…and in fact when we figured that out we looked on Airbnb and saw our exact unit. There is a “front desk” area…but not sure how late its staffed. Sergio was wonderful trying to accommodate our requests. The grounds are quite large- you will absolutely need to rent a golf cart. We love to walk but everything very far apart and wouldnt want to walk through the jungle grounds at night. There is a beach club with a pool and restaurant. We ate most of our breakfast and lunch at a nearby resort Palmar which had pretty good food. There is a spa which we didnt use…but that was the extent of the amenities. Danielle is the person you talk with if you call from the US and she is very helpful. Our villa was simple but pleasant with a private pool. Pool was useless because it was always in the shade. We didnt have maid service the first couple days- finally I asked and at first they said check in and check out only ( sounds like a VRBO right?) but then they gave us daily maid service. The last day at the beach club- no towels ( the washing machine wasnt working) and no water ( ie no water to flush a toilet or to wash your hands). Not sure if this happens much? Anyway…the beach is fantastic and the people very nice there. I would go back even with some of the inconveniences.

The red frog beach resort is top notch. We loved the pristine beaches and beautiful pool/restaurant space. The staff and the food were lovely. Our house was not overly fancy, but it was clean and spacious. We will definitely be returning to this natural beauty in the future.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS. These scammers just cancelled our reservation for a family of 4 with 3 hours notice. We're now stuck in Panama during the busiest time of year with no lodging or options. No explanation, no personal contact, just cancelled. Awful. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

The place is really really nice. Nature all around, a beach for yourself... BUT... everything is really far away. Night is usually pitch black, you cant see whats in front of you if you don't have a flashlight, and walking to the restaurant (that closes way too early) is simply impossible unless you rent a golf cart. There aren't many options to eat, and everything closes quite early, and even if you want to buy groceries you don't have a kitchen where to cook it at the vila. Also, front desk is open only until 5pm so if you need something after that time, you have to wait untill next morning. Place is beautifull, but installations make it really tricky to relax.

Staff is super helpful and generous! Great views and plenty to do on the resort. Villas are massive and very well cared for! 10/10 recommend Only thing I’d say is that a couple people in our group got food poisoning. Not sure if that’s from the resort or not though

I recently visited Panama with an open mind and discovered a paradise I must share. Panama is by far more than a destination to witness its renowned canal. My time spent in Panama was full of nature, beautiful wildlife, and clear dreamy ocean waters. I must say the people of Panama are respectful, courteous and hardworking. I was amazed by how safe it was to travel across the country and the nearby island Bocas del toro, especially during these covid times. The country's citizens abide by universal covid protection standards to preserve their way of life and tourism industry. From interacting with locals, and walking the streets I would say Panama is one of the safest countries to visit. During my travels I consider my stay at Red Frog Beach Island Resort & Community to be the highlight of our trip while in Bocas del toro, Panama. I would says it's the lush tropical, private beaches, amazing ocean views and delicious local restaurants to be the selling point. You wake up to both, the sounds of the jungle and ocean waves crashing in the back ground. Our simple wood jungle cabin was rustic, natural, and equipped with all the necessary amenities. The next best part was driving around the island using golf carts. The driveways are clean, safe and surrounded by amazing, breath taking views. Oddly enough you can buy vacant lands to live or retire. There is much more I can say but I don't want to spoil the fun. I want to thank dearly the staff at Red Frog Resort, being Carlos, Stephanie and Sergio. They went above and beyond to make our anniversary holiday extra special. The level of service they provided was extraordinary. I will never forget the most perfect massage I received at Red Frog's Spa. I can't wait to go back with the family.
