Cabana's and enviroment connect you with nature. Beach is just few steps away and you can enjoy walking by the ocean for miles. The breakfast and dinner were average, and you can have small visitors in your cabans, so keep your food in plastic box, that they give you. Staff are very nice and friendly.
We stayed two nights at shivas beach cabanas and always ate at the fish bone restaurant on the premise. The cabanas are located just behind the restaurant which overviews the ocean. The staff was friendly and the food enjoyable. There are a few friendly dogs roaming the beach, some squirrels and the occasional monkey. We were never short of anything and if we were, I’m sure the staff would have tried to resolve it. We came for simplicity and that is also what we got. A simple and enjoyable beach experience on a turtle beach with decent seafood. As advice to travelers, the driver we were offered was a bit overpriced because the “pickme app” (uber for sri lanka) does not come to the premises (there are a few hundred meters of bad road which they avoid). Having your own connection with a driver saved us quite some money. Take care of the ocean; swimming is outright dangerous here even for experienced swimmers (current + high waves + rocky underwater surface that you cant see from the beach). Also, be careful when looking for turtles; they are endangered and should not be disturbed with flashlights while nesting. Perhaps an information poster in the room would prevent some tourists making uninformed mistakes here. Not related to the hotel; there are professionals from the turtle conservation project (commercial) who will actively send you in the wrong direction or occupy you needlessly unless you are their client. We have only managed to see the sea turtles by ignoring their (location) advice. They are right however in trying to keep flashlights and flash photography away from the turtles. All in all, a very enjoyable experience and good value for money. Tip; kayaks are available for a small amount in a few of the neighbouring accomodation, which will give you some time in the mangroves and a small part of wetlands. …
Imagine that a bunch of surfers start a hotel by the beach - this is the green rooms. We booked a cabana close to the beach. The best thing about this place is the location and the possibilities that comes along with that. A lot of other surf-hostels/hotels are located at the wrong side of the busy road that goes trough Weligama! There weren’t that many ppl booking surf lessons so we’ve managed to get a private surf instructor every day. The cost for 1 hour was 2500 LKR, about 12-13 euros. Renting a board was about 300LKR/hour if you wanna surf by yourself. Along the beach they had really nice home made relax areas in the shade. They also had a kitchen and served a really nice breakfast, you can eat all meals there but there’s a lot of nice restaurants in town from walking distance. The place is located a bit off - but it’s only a good thing since you’ve got most of the beach for yourself and around 5-10 min walk to the good restaurants. As they say on there website - this ain’t a high maintenance place. It’s very laid back - so if you don’t like that - don’t book here. But if you’re into surfing and want a good place with chill staff - book here. In other words, you pay for the location. The mosquitoes are awful, super tiny and live in the cabanas! Bring a load of bug repellent and cortisone cream! …
We are glad we have selected this hotel after visiting several around. The room was large, comfortable and clean. The family balcony provides a great view, especially in rain season. The inner garden is nicely shaden. Multiple activities: volleyball, guitar, slackline, fire on the beach. Friendly staffs and good food.
We arrived to rest for 3 nights but ended up staying 5 nights!! It is such a relaxing place to be...amongst the palms. You can't swim in the sea there but the breeze keeps you cool while walking along the deserted picturesque beach, with the occasional wave soaking your feet! There are sunbeds and hammocks on the beach to lie in shade or sun. The cabana itself was pretty, clean, plenty big enough, with mozzie net, warm shower and plenty of towels...a quaint little veranda with chair and sofa/bed was a great place to chill. The food in the restaurant was lovely with plenty and varied choice. Special thanks to Asanka for fab fish and delicious cocktails and to Dulshi who looked after us so well with a brilliant smile. Definitely want to go back as soon as possible
