We have spend 2 weeks at Tropical Garden in the Lotos house with my wife and we have been very happy there. You have all equipment you need, the location is simply perfect, you are away from all the tourist hassle and can really enjoy yourself right at the ocean. The garden with palms around is also very well taken care of and if you want to go to more lively places, it takes only several minutes by walk or tuk-tuk. What I would like to especilly mention is the fantastic, efficient and extremelly friendly customer service before and during our stay. The team of Tropical Garden helped us with absolutely everything we needed, from pre-travel preparations over different trips arranged on the spot to washing our clothes and arranging a grill for us for the evening. All that with pleasure and smile. THANK YOU! If you plan to go to Srí Lanka, make this your base and you will have a lovely time!

Wonderful accommodation in a very quiet private garden just few steps from the beach! Nice rooms with bathroom, kitchen well equipped, very friendly staff! Great for peaceful vacation with strolls along the beach-nice family restaurant very close to the place. As we arrived in the low season (june) we were just like Robinsons there! Really reccommanding the place!

Love this place. We visited in the low season and had the place to ourselves. Clean and functional but basic accommodation. Showers regularly got blocked which was a little irritating. Linen and mosquito nets were worn but a few well placed knots sorted them ;) Mrs Janke is wonderful and a great source of local information. She will also wash, dry and fold your laundry for a small charge. Loved watching the squirrels, monkeys and lizards as well as all the beautiful birds. Our young kids ran free within the gardens which are very safe and fully fenced. The beach outside is beautiful but unsuitable for swimming and could be a little off putting if you are not used to wild oceans and crashing surf. Head to Cinnamon Resort for coffee and Little Pumpkin for dinner - their vege curry trio is amazing! While we were there, a storm had taken out the bridge making road access difficult. Prepare for a long bumpy ride or be prepared to walk 500m on the beach or road. We found a great tuk-tuk driver on our first day and called him whenever we needed transport. Very convenient for us and his family were very happy for the regular work and tips. Grab a tuktuk to Hiriketiya Beach to hire boards and head out for a surf. Another must-do is safari nearby at Bundala. We much preferred to Yala. The shorter duration is better for young kids and we saw a whole herd of elephants inc. calfs.

Average accommodation off the beaten track! The only real plus is the beachfront location which is quite tranquil. Quirky beach hut & your left to your own devices. It's a longgggg walk from the main road & a fair distance from the town - but you can grab a tuk tuk for 250-300slr, which is fine until you get to the off-road bumpy mud track (due to the bridge being destroyed), which is better to just walk! The room we stayed in was very small, with the bed taking up 90% of the room. Small bathroom but adequate. The bed is covered with a slightly worn mosquito net, which is definitely necessary seeing as there are makeshift vents above the door & windows. Woke up to a well-fed mosquito, which was resting on the inside of the mosquito net - hence the 'slightly worn' description! No hot water. Kitchen is fully equipped which is good. To be honest, we never felt totally at ease during our two-day stay & contemplated finding a different accommodation on more than one occasion. If you've a phobia of 4-5ft lizards then I'd give this place a wide berth. If you're looking for something simple & fairly isolated with great view of the beach then this place might be for you....but for the price you pay, you could get a much nicer hotel on the other side of Tangalle with a beachfront location, pool & breakfast included for an extra £10/night.

We stayed for 4 nights with our family. Robinson Crusoe, that was first what came to our minds walking on the neverending beautiful sand beach just in front of the house. Start of July, no tourists around, but still little causy and authentic Sandy reastaurant on the beach close to our place opened and serving delicious rice and curry. One day we saw the huge track of protected green turtle on the beach just next to our house, she came to lay the eggs, then we thougth well this is really a paradise place. The house is very well equipped, big comfortable kitchen. And very nice tropical garden around. The neighbour Mrs Anke is very friendly and always helpful, we really enjoyed it!! and will definetely come back.

I´ve traveled around Sri Lanka with a backpack 15 years ago, there are lot of beautiful and stylish places with authentic accommodation available. What makes Tropical Garden (stay April 2017) special place is the beauty and size of its garden with direct connection to wild ocean coast. Infinity and magnificence of the beach right in front of the plot with the garden is breathtaking. Accommodation is tasteful and functional, ideal for stays of bigger families and small groups sharing an equipped kitchen. There is no commerce, contact with nature is immediate, while the availability of restaurants and access to Tangalle is fine. The close presence of Mrs. Anke will help less experienced travelers with organizing the stay and planning leisure time activities.

We stayed in a room that was it's own private building with a kitchen downstairs. The beach is on your doorstep and it is such a gorgeous beach, my favourite in Sri Lanka. There are bars and restaurants close by. Great Place.
