Pulling up to a friendly welcome team was just the beginning of the magical experience that laid beyond.
I was greeted at the steps leading up into the resort where my bags were taken and then lead to a golf cart to whisk me to reception where I was greeted with scented wet towel and welcome drink in a check in lounge while they checked me in. Shortly after my personal butler arrived to escort me to the villa and went over all the features and answered any questions.
The villa (forest dwelling) was massive two story and so beautifully designed with the outdoor/indoor style bathroom, the bedroom upstairs had very strong AC so was a wonderful place to retreat too when needing to escape the heat, the pool was surrounded by high vegetation to give it a great sense of privacy.
The restaurant is open air upstairs like being in a treehouse with incredible ambiance in the morning and evening. The food was delicious and all the service was absolutely delicious!
The entire property was so serene and peaceful I wish I had stayed longer and can’t wait to return it was absolutely magical! The service was impeccable at every point making it such a wonderful experience. I would highly recommend when coming to the area.

A beautiful hotel in a lovely setting around what is a man made lake but doesn't look like it.
The individual cabins are well separated and barely overlooked so feel very private and remote. Most are accessed by boardwalks which cross paddy fields or rough ground. There is plenty of birdlife around. Reception, dining space and central pool are in the middle of the site by the lake.
You are met from your car by staff who put your bags into an electric buggy and take you to reception. This was quick and efficient and we were given a quick tour. We were taken to our room by our butler, Ravi, which was very large. Huge bed, plenty of towels and hot water and a large bath and shower. A small plunge pool was very welcome.
Breakfasts were substantial with plenty of choice both western and Sri Lankan. Dinners were similarly substantial and we enjoyed the cooking particularly the Sri Lankan curries. Service was excellent and at dinner was done by Ravi who gave us a lot of personal attention.
The evening wildlife tour to find the Slow Loris is recommended and the on site naturalist was excellent. The fee you pay for this goes directly to the conservation programme which appears to be taken very seriously. Keep an eye out for the local crocodile and the fruit bats.
The only issue we had was a very noisy aircon system in our cabin. On raising this the next morning we were moved to another cabin without any quibble.
The hotel is very close to Sigiriya rock so if you have an early start you can have a late breakfast.
Highly recommended.

Vil Uyana was a very nice hotel offering a different experience. The hotel is situated in the dry zone of Sri Lanka, but constructed with water and nature all around. We stayed in one of the Forest Dwelling with a Pool, which was great. Almost the whole ground floor was a very large bathroom with a shower, tub and two sinks etc. This opens up to your private pool, which has a lot of privacy. The top floor is a bedroom with an attached toilet, with very nice views of the surroundings. Our view included the restaurant and the lake and the evening and morning views were superb. The hotel has many electric carts which you can call anytime to get to anywhere. Each room has a personal butler as well. The hotel pool is very nice too, and has nice and warm water around noon for a refreshing swim. The bar menu and restaurant menu, food and drinks are all good. However, during the busy dinner time, its best to come a bit early to the restaurant since there could be a bit of a delay with the meals. We also went on a night safari, but unfortunately missed the fishing cats, although we saw some other animals such as elephants, owls and birds.

We recently stayed here for three nights and what an amazing experience! Everyone should experience the level of hospitality and service provided. Our rooms were beautiful, clean and spacious. They contained everything we needed from filtered water bottles,a huge shower/bathroom,comfortable bed,complimentary toiletries,air con etc. The plunge pools were a bonus to cool off in. It’s the staff though that help make your stay here the most enjoyable and luxurious experience. They smile constantly, take a genuine interest in you and ensure your stay is perfect. Everyone we met was so helpful and friendly but a special mention to Charith and Santha ( apologies if I’ve got those spelt wrong). They appeared out of nowhere to ensure we had everything we needed be it drinks, food ,local information or transport between reception and our rooms. Food - breakfast was superb. Fresh fruit,tea coffee ,juices , pastries,then a great choice of cooked options. Do try the hoppers ! The two evening meals we had were delicious especially the bbq special dining. We felt so spoilt. The chef and team were beyond fantastic with the choices available. There is wildlife surrounding the area and we were fortunate to see the resident crocodile,monkeys,peacocks and more. If you have limited mobility do consider there are steps to the rooms , to the restaurant and into the pool. There were some steps within our rooms too up to the bed area and to the bathroom area. If wouldn’t hesitate to recommend staying here. It’s the best place to stay and we would go back tomorrow if we could.

Very nice hotel and beautiful surrounding. Villas are beautiful but e careful there is no door between toilet, shower and the bedroom. I have never seen or experience such a thing. No privacy at all. We were two friends traveling together and each time one of us wanted to have a shower, the other one went to the terrace in order to give some privacy. Very inconvenient.

The wildlife within the hotel grounds is incredible to sit relax watch the birds, bats, the crocks, monkeys, hear the frogs, go grey slender Loris spotting in the evening. Even saw a rare snake on our evening on the hotel tour. How the hotel has incorporated the wildlife is a perfect harmony and beautiful to see, everyone has so much knowledge about the surroundings area. The staff especially Ruwan our butler was exceptional. Nothing was any trouble, the hotel lent me a torch one evening to spot wildlife in the lake while finishing a cocktail. The food is 5* delicious any allergies attened to. The location is perfect for main attractions, but ask the hotel for the hidden gems that you need to see in the area not full of tourists but beautiful. The rooms are spacious with everything you need. Every penny well spent the perfect start to married life made us feel so special.

We stayed for five nights at this hotel for our honeymoon. We honestly cannot fault our experience at all. Upon arrival, we were introduced to our INCREDIBLE butler Thasara and then had a quick tour of the hotel. We were then taken to our room. We stayed in a paddy dwelling with pool which was very spacious, clean and attractive. As the hotel has around 30 ish places to stay, the ratio of staff to visitors is amazing so therefore additional services are very quick (e.g organising trips or food/drink to the room). We took advantage of the Loris Walk with the absolutely brilliant and knowledgeable Yesi (resident zoologist) which was really informative and a lot of fun. We saw a Slender Loris, Wolf Spider and a lizard. Thasara also helped us organise trips to Sigiriya Rock, an elephant safari and to Dambulla Cave Temple - the hotel is fantastically located for all of these. Each trip that was organised through the hotel had Yesi present, drinks provided by the hotel and what seemed like endless cold flannels! We then had an additional person as a tour guide and transport was also included (& was seamless). Dinner was really good every day and we also enjoyed our breakfast there. We didn’t have to wait at all - service was very quick and faultless. The dishes are presented beautifully and tasted great. Dinner was around four courses each night and breakfast was about the same (they were huge). In terms of drinks, we enjoyed them - we tried both the wine and cocktails. We had many special touches during our stay including a private dining experience by the pool, a floral bath for when we got back from a dusty elephant safari, a champagne breakfast - Thasara our butler organised these brilliantly and we cannot thank him enough for everything he did for us. We would absolutely love to revisit one day as we loved it so much.

The hotel is conveniently located near two significant attractions - Sigiriya Rock and Dambula Caves. Both are exceptional and very well worth a visit, but both involve some climbing, so go early (particularly to Sigiriya) to avoid the heat of the day during the climb. I have reviewed both these attractions if you care to read something about them in addition to the guide books. A water villa would be very pleasant, but we found our more reasonably priced superior room very acceptable indeed. You will certainly enjoy your stay at this exceptional resort!
