This was such a peaceful place to stay after the long flight and the manic journey up from Colombo. It ws quiet with only 3 other couples were staying, so the staff were super attentive. The staff were great, particulary Lionel.
The room was large, well equiped and the bed comfortable. It was one of the few hotels with somewhere to put both our suitcases.
It is the first time that we have had an outside bathroom, showering under the stars was a new experience!
Lots of wildlife to observe, the first time that I have watched monkeys while swimming in the pool.
There was a limited set menu( $10) of a starter, soup, a choice of curry or a western main, icecream or fruit and coffee. Breakfast was freshly cooked to order.
There was no TV and the wifi was not good but in such peaceful surroundings you didn't really need either.
I wouldn't hestiate to stay here again- perhaps for longer.

How else to describe these villas?
Amazing, perfect, exceptional

We stayed for 2 nights this week and loved every last second , Lionel and Sampath are fantastic, both great characters and so helpful. The villa was luxiourious and the setting out of this world ! We stayed half board and the food was superb, beautifully cooked chicken, incredible rice and curry and the best freshly squeezed juices ever. I wish I could give more than 5 stars we had such a relaxing stay and the perfect location to go and see the elephant gathering only 10 minutes away( elephants even come into the grounds at night).
Thank you again for a perfect stay.

Lionel and the team provide excellent service and good food served in an open central reception & dining building,. The location is very rural and peaceful surrounded by rice fields where elephants sometimes wander through pursued by farmers anxious to protect their crops. The spacious detached rooms are in a separate block and comfortable. All have novel outside bathrooms which are appealing but (during our 3 night stay) the very low water pressure, particularly the hot water, was a big negative. This needs fixing otherwise the hotel's popularity will suffer.

Overall it was a good stay, we were around half an hour from most of the tourist sites that we wanted to see
The surroundings are really good.
As it was a small hotel you didn’t really ever see anyone else other than at meal times

Breakfast was ok, fruit, fruit juice, decent tea
Followed by eggs/bacon/sausage
One day we had roti and asked for sambal which they quickly went off and made and we were grateful for
We would have liked more Sri Lankan breakfast
They are very flexible about what time you have breakfast which is good for doing tours

The pool was nice, it was so hot so we were glad of it. We did see water buffalo walking past during the day.

It is not safe to leave the hotel alone at night you are in the middle of no where down a dirt track with no lighting and there is a lot of wildlife around.
The peace is nice but this did mean we had to eat dinner at the hotel and for us personally we like to get out in the evenings (but I do expect most hotels around here are like this)
In the morning you would be given the menu for dinner as you were going out on your tours which meant we felt pressure to make a decision on dinner quickly.
You were served soup which changed daily, another starter followed by curry which was a lot of food and then either ice cream or buffalo curd for dessert
They also has western food which we didn’t try.
We had 3 dinners, 4 beers and a bottle of water and it came to around £70

Some points for improvement
We were in a garden bungalow, the lighting wasn’t great and there were no nets on the doors and windows that open out into the communal gardens and face other rooms so when you are getting ready you need the curtains closed.
There is no full length mirror, one would be useful
A hand towel for the bathroom would be good, we didn’t want to leave our towels in the outside bathroom due to the bugs
A book on hotel policies/procedure in the room would be handy
There are lots is mosquitos, we got bitten a lot
It was only after our guide asked the hotel for a mosquito net we got given one
They were worse around dinner so we wanted to eat and go back to our room

They only take cash and you pay for everything at the end

What a charming place. Tranquility abounded in this wonderful hotel. The staff were charming - gracious, helpful, attentive and genuinely interested in all we had to say. The rooms were very large and beautifully appointed. The quirky outside en suites made showering a pleasure, looking up at the sky. The pool was lovely - although the broken sun-bed was annoying. A must for anyone looking for a quiet, restful stay.

The hotel is set in a peaceful rural setting down a long gravel track. The Villa rooms are spacious, luxurious, with an outside shower and terrace overlooking a small lake. The staff are super attentive and friendly, especially Lionel, who made our stay very special. The breakfast is cooked fresh to order and consisted of fruit platter, juice and eggs, bacon etc. The set dinner menu was excellent - soup, sri lankan curries and a dessert. The pool was really lovely after a hot day climbing Sigirya. The wifi was intermittent but that added to the charm of the place! Make sure you ask to be woken up if elephants come to the drinking hole. We found out that they had appeared but didn't know there was an option to be woken up. So missed out. Also the hotel when we were there only accepted cash and you are a long way from a cashpoint so make sure you are prepared before checkout. Overall, a fantastic hideaway for a few nights whilst exploring the local area.

This was our fourth trip to SriLanka and our third stay here. We love the peace and tranquility. The bungalows are really gorgeous. Spacious well equipped and a really comfortable bed.
The staff are just fantastic, nothing is too much trouble and always with a smile. The food is simply the best SriLankan food you will ever have. Just delicious. Can not explain how good the dinner is. Breakfast is cooked to order and is very substantial.
The Villa’s are situated close to all the places you would like to visit which you can do by car or Tuk Tuk.
The wildlife around this hotel is just amazing and the number of birds you can see is mind blowing. We loved sitting on our balcony watching the many different types of birds so close to us.
The pool is a very welcome site when you need to cool off after a busy day sightseeing and before your evening beer.
There is only WiFi in the restaurant area and no tv or WiFi in the rooms. A real chance to detox from technology and reconnect with nature.
We can not recommend this hotel highly enough and we always have a huge sense of sadness when we leave.

We had originally booked 2 nights but left our previous accommodation early and were very pleased to be able to extend our stay to 3 nights. We were in Sri Lanka for a 2 week tour and our whole group of 8 thought Kumbukgaha Villa was the best place we stayed. The staff were super, so welcoming and friendly. We were staying over the New Year (in April) and arrived one morning to breakfast with an amazing buffet, candles and special blessings. The rooms are very special, beautiful decorations and a fabulous outdoor bathroom- showering with sweet smelling flowers and the sound of peacocks all around you is something we will all remember. The grounds are peaceful and the pool area is very clean with lots of fresh towels. We had a lovely menu to choose from and were very impressed with the quality and choice. We must mention the very cute puppy Shadow who all our kids loved! Kumbukgaha Villa is a very special place to stay, its beautiful, tranquil grounds will leave you feeling very relaxed and totally in love with Sri Lanka. Thank you Patti and all your team, we will definitely return. x

Second stop on our tour of Sri Lanka for 3 nights.
After a few minutes drive down a rural bumpy track Kumbukgaha Villas come into view in style. A warm welcome and a fantastic peaceful retreat in a central location to discover much of what Sigiria has to offer.
Our bags were whisked away to our room while we were greeted by very friendly staff and offered a cool drink whilst taking in the peaceful surroundings.
The menu consisted of both local and western foods and both were excellent.
Room was huge and had a veranda with a great outlook, enjoyed watching the fireflies in the evening, which was a first for us and amazing when you first spot one.
Enjoyed the power cuts as lanterns were lit making it very romantic before the generator was started.
Staff very attentive and always available despite our early morning starts.
Highly recommend a stay here.

An amazing place tucked away in a serene environment closer to Sigiriya. It's peaceful and rural setting is ideal for a stay away from the hustle and bustle of the city. They have about 12 comfortable villas, equipped with all essential facilities. Staff is friendly, helpful and provides an excellent service. Special thanks to Sampath, who ensured our stay was perfect in every possible way. Their meals are prepared off an a la carte menu. Its said that most of the ingredients are locally sourced at their own home garden, that are often organic. They don't have pre-planned meal times and we were given the flexibility to dine whenever and however we preferred. It was certainly a memorable stay and we enjoyed every bit of it. They truly deserves great compliments and we would surely revisit in the near future.

Hi everyone, we are currently in the final stages of adding 2 familiy villas on one corner of the property. This is within a fenced of area so guests really do not see much of the work. The good news is that we hope to complete all work by end April and what's left is all soft work like interior finishes and painting. The construction was in response to the regular requests we receive from families and travel groups for connected rooms. So we decided to add two Family Villas and its seems they will come out looking great! A big Thank You to all our guests who have responded to the question. We hope to see you again soon! Best wishes, Chandi Villa Owner

We were there in early Feb. They are expanding with a few new villas, but there was no disruption from the work while we were there for 2 nights. That said, we were mostly gone during the day, though one afternoon stopped back by the property from 9:45 until 1'ish, again no noise. They may be in a new phase of work with more noise now. This is a unique boutique property, which I assume you realize frim reading the reviews. If you are looking to get off the beaten path, as we were, you should enjoy your time here - we found the food delicious and serene atmosphere very enjoyable. If you are looking for a resort type property with all of the amenities, etc, this is probably not the right choice! Safe travels where ever your journey leads!
