I was there 3 nights and, it was quite busy with my official work. But as soon as I entered to this awesome place, entire tired wanished. As a travel agent in Sri Lanka, I have visited much hotels in Polonnaruwa, and this was the best place ever I visited. Special thanks goes to Prasanna, who coordinate my entire needs from hotel side.
We stayed at the hotel for 2 nights, it was a great base to explore the area. The manager and staff were very friendly and helpful. The view across the lake from our room was amazing. The restaurant had a good varied menu and the food was cooked very well.
The location is lovely because it is on a small peninsula at the end of the lake which offers great views of the lake, the wild birds and the local fishermen. There is a nice little pool for cooling off in and the rooms were big and the bed comfortable. The bathroom was a good size with a nice shower. The breakfast was fine, normal format, fruit, choice of eggs and toast. The problem with this hotel is that you are in the middle of nowhere so you end up eating in the restaurant which is not brilliant food, in fact that's what let's this place down, if the restaurant was better you wouldn't mind the remoteness, in fact you would love it! The best thing on the menu for us was the steamed lake fish which was really nice, my wife had it all three nights!. The rice and curry with chicken was okay but lots of bones in the chicken and very mild (western style) curry, not very good really. …
This small and relatively unknown and quiet hotel complex is set by a lake . Rooms were up to standard and clean. Great swimming pool. Great views. The restaurant menu is built around the fishing from the lake of which the huge prawns are fantastic-just out of this world. Staff very friendly. However the main reason for this review is that I suffered a serious head injury when visiting the ruins in nearby Polonnaruwa and had to be stitched up in hospital. The hotel manager went out of his way to see I was okay, including bringing me food and rearranging our accommodation. Nothing was too much trouble and the kindness-which comes so naturally to Sri Lankans-was outstanding. Top marks.
The location is fantastic, as the pictures show. Room was large and comfy, as was the bathroom. In particular was the manager Kammora (sp) but everyone was very nice. The restaurant was fine but different, as no buffet, but we liked the change. Great value for money.
