Detailed Reviews
A charming and neat place. The bathroom was the highlight with good fittings and a lot of potted plants. Rooms come with access to a common verandah which has comfortable sofas. The couple who run it are warm and friendly people who serve up some great food in the restaurant that overlooks the adjacent green paddy fields. Really enjoyed our stay there.

I had a very nice stay with my wife at Chamyla's family's house. The food was great and Chamyla and her family is doing her best for you to have a great stay and giving you tips for things to see around. The guesthouse is ideally located 500m from the Polonaruwa old ruins. They rent bycicles, which is the best way to discover the old ruins. The rooms are well equipped with AC and ceiling fan and the beds are big and comfortable. Bathroom is clean and nice. Great value for money! Bring a mosquito repellent though.

Spent two nights here. Our room was upstairs with big glass windows with lovely views across the paddy fields and there was a sofa so that you could sit in comfort and enjoy the view. We were able to make tea in the room. Everything was clean and the bed was comfortable. Shamila was very nice and very helpful, warned us about the ticket scams and told us where to get tickets from. We hired bikes from her at a small cost, it was a short cycle ride to the ruins and made getting around so much easier.
Food was tasty and plentiful. The dining area overlooks a paddy field. While this was picturesque and not such a problem for breakfast in the evening it does mean there are a lot of midges mosquitos and flying insects

We have stayed 1 night here to visit Polonnaruwa. The guesthouse is located near Potgul Vehera, which is very convenient as a starting point to visit all heritages from Potgul Vehera to Tivanka Image House.
Honestly, the guesthouse looks not attractive, maybe a little bit old, and our standard double room with air-con is simple but spacious. Lighting is ok.
Beds are clean, big and comfortable, and the environment is quiet. We had a really good sleep. But there is no blanket.
The bathroom is spacious too, hot water is enough, hand shower is available, water pressure is little bit weak, but acceptable.
Bottle water and kettle are not provided. You need to go to the outside restaurant to get hot water or buy the bottle water there. Hair dryer are available.
Breakfast are served at the outside restaurant facing the rice field, it is simple but fresh and delicious. We were really surprised. One of the best breakfasts we had in Sri Lanka.
Although there are few cons, for this backpacker rate and delicious breakfasts, i gave it a 4 stars rating.

The owners are really nice people and really helpful with any question you have. The room is comfortable but not perfectly clean and there are lot of mosquitos around, but this is understandable because of the location. The view is amazing. If you wanna eat here the curry they prepare is amazing, the fried rice, noddles and breakfast so so but there nothing really amazing to eat in the area. Anyway it was a nice stay in this relaxing guest house.

We (a group of 5 females) stayed here for four nights after arriving in Sri Lanka for the first time. Although the appearance of the residency it's in is somewhat off-putting at first (looks a little like a building site) it has 24 hour security and feels very safe. The room itself was basic but nice enough with air con and a lockable wardrobe for valuables. There's a shared pool which is decent, too (although no sunbeds). Local amenities, bars, restaurants and the beach are a 5 minute tuk tuk drive away.
The best part about staying here, however, were the owners and staff who were very friendly, chatty and willing to go above and beyond what we expected. They picked us up from the airport, made us massive Sri Lankan breakfasts each morning, drove us around the local area for a whole day dropping us off in different areas and were generally available, informative and attentive at all times. The owner was very hands on and enthusiastic and seemed really interested to hear any ideas of how we thought they could improve as a growing business. They happily cooked us a few meals (lunch and dinner) at our request, even cooking a fish that the owner had bought earlier that day at the fish market that took us to see which turned out to be one our favourite meals in Sri Lanka. The kitchen is spotless and organised. They really made our stay a great one and we'll definitely be using them again as a result.

tWe stopped by this hotel reading the good reviews on Tripadvisor just for one night, but later the place, owner-manager's friendliness, and the good rate we got made us feel at home and we stayed for one more night!

We loved Thisara guest house for many reasons. First of all. You can sit on your porch, looking over beautiful fields and banana trees, while waiting for the day to grow cooler. An added bonus was that the owner brings fresh juice and fruits to welcome you when you arrive. It's a basic place, but mosquito nets are provided, and the shower has really hot water. We rented bicycles from the guest house to explore the ruins. It's impossible without a bike. Polonnaruwa is really a boring little town, but the ruins are worth it, and for a few days rest, this is a great pace. Only downside was that the wall facing the bathroom was moldy. Something that can be easily fixed.
