A 100 year old property owned by the then chief of the village and 'govi raja' - Paddy King, an honour bestowed by the government. This property has now been expanded upon to create a nature health resort. The hotel is a specialist Ayurveda / Yoga retreat with 8 rooms set amidst a 30 acre plantation of Rubber, Coconut, Cinnamon, Black Pepper and numerous vegetation, fruit trees and paddy fields. The guest experiences are personalised - each guest will be met by an Ayurvedic Doctor on the first day of their arrival who will plan their diet and ayurveda treatment plans which will be administered during their stay. Majority of the food served to guests come from our own organic gardens surrounding the hotel and daily yoga classes will be conducted to compliment their therapies. Treatments range from general relaxation / destress or detox to the cure or prevention of paralysis, cancer, piles etc. Whilst most guests come for just a relaxing experience or to loose weight or detox, we have had some guests with serious illnesses. Additionally, cookery classes, meditation classes and day trips are organised to allow guests to experience life in rural Sri Lanka.

I loved Plantation Villa by all means. The staff is warm and friendly, Ayurvedic Doctors are very helpful and patient. The massages were really authentic and loved spending this time with local people from the villages nearby. The language was a bit difficult but I learned a few words from Sri Lankan language which warmed up our conversations! After receiving my consultation and treatment plans from the first day, I started enjoying the full Ayurvedic experience. There are options like Weight loss, Detox or Full Ayurvedic packages. Make sure you are aware which one you chose and differences, before you get there. Yoga lessons were nice, although I am sorry to miss Bernardo as other guests loved his classes, however Katya was a very nice young teacher, too. I loved especially the yin classes in the evening. I was there when the terrorist attacks happened, we were very sad but also very safe. The villa is 1.5hrs away from Colombo, in the middle of jungle and small village, so there were no safety issues, while we were there. I also missed the owner of the Villa and some valuable talks on Ayurveda, wish I had a chance to learn more. The food was great for me, delicious, natural, nothing worry like gluten-sugar-dairy, etc! All clean and nice Ayurvedic Sri Lankan food. I went there on my own and met some nice women who traveled there solo like me, had some nice friendships. We enjoyed a few trips to Bentota and Sigiriya with Hotel's drivers and tuktuks, all went very well. Others also enjoyed Galle, 1 hour away by car. I strongly suggest that you decrease caffeine and sugar gradually before you arrive as some others experienced migraine and headaches as there are no coffee, alcohol and sugary food around! When you arrive there, you get a consultation from 2 Ayurvedic doctors. They make an assessment of your health and well-being and make a treatment plan that consists of yoga, massage, specific treatments for nose, eyes, ear, intestines, constipation, burnouts, etc. They also explain your ayurvedic constitution (doshas) and imbalances in your body. Then your journey starts! They give your Ayurvedic medicines, all natural and supplied by trusted specialists. In my 7 days, I had different massages, face masks, with herbal mixes and warm oils for head, body, back and feet. I had treatments with oils to my ears, herbal infusions and also very interesting eye treatment. I also did panchakarma, intestinal cleansing (not the anema as I did not have the time). In between, I relaxed by the pool, took a walk in the village, read some books from their library, attended cooking demos twice and spent 1 day away from the villa visiting Sigiriya Rock Mountain and Cave Temples- very tiring but worth the visit. In the end, you get 10 years younger and your skin becomes soft as cotton, muscles and joints happily smile!! Special Tip: I suggest that you see an ayurvedic doctor before your visit in your country, learn a bit about Ayurveda, start applying slowly and start your detox before you get there. Then it will be much more enjoyable while you are there and then you can follow up when you return your country, continue treatments regularly, as we get out of balance very easily in this crazy world! However, if you want to just jump into it there, I am sure you will still enjoy it if you have an open mind on trying new things. Tip 2: I was happy to bring ear plugs as the handsome roosters could be a bit noisy very early morning!

Without a doubt a great investment on yourself, if even for just a few days. The plantation itself if beautiful and relaxing. The staff are very friendly, attentive, and make you feel right at home. Food is delicious and very healthy. The yoga and mediation is restorative and perfect for this setting. You can add in Ayurvedic treatments to your stay, which I highly recommend. The organization does amazing work for its employees and surrounding community and villages. Not only do you get time or yourself to relax, but you are apart of something bigger! Only wish I had more time to stay longer!
