Detailed Reviews
This resort was very good . the sri lankan staff are genuinely friendly and cant do enough for you. the resort was clean and well maintained . the pool was great with an easy walk in section to .5m and go under the tunnel to the other side of the hotel and it has a 2m deep swimming section. the pool was always really warm.
best if i list the best things
the room.
good facilitates with tv , HBO film channel and bbc news world. the air con was great and well needed. beds were huge with plenty of sheets and pillows, tea making facilities free and fridge in room although mini bar is chargeable. bathroom excellent with hot water 24hrs a day. the rooms have 240v and one socket in the room takes UK 3 pin plug great for charging devices. free keypad safe in room .
the food
food was amazing, plenty of local dishes and international dishes which are always fresh, also foods like pasta dishes made to order as you wait. there are two glass rooms which are cold housing fresh meets/salads for starters and the other room for deserts/ice cream.
plenty of drinks many choices. weekly tour of the kitchens and they are spotless, hygiene standards there are similar to the UK , the food storage all labelled and controlled so you wont get stomach issues from the food or water.
the resort
free gym use gym is ok, air con and mainly running machines, the loungers get taken fairly early but go see one of the pool staff and for a small tip they will get you a couple of loungers with parasol every day. pool bar is pretty much the same as all pool bars, loads of wildlife around, chipmunks, birds, lizards, gekos,
there are beach sellers but they are not allowed onto the resort so you dont get bugged.
mainly russians followed by germans and only a few english seem to be the main occupants. really recommend this place , really good resort.

The reception of the hotel service was very welcomming: on a terrace with beautyful view over the pool area the beach and the ocean, we were offered a variation of chilled drinks and also cool towels, which we highly appreciated. The hotel personnel was outstandingly polite, gave valuable information and after a few minutes we were guided to our room. It was nice, big in size and space, a lovely balcony and a good sized bathroom. Of course it is obvious that this hotel and especially the rooms are not completely brand new and that there are signs of use of course. But the room was very well cleaned. And if there would have been the slightest complaint we could have adressed it directly to the overall friendly man from the hotel personnel, who was with us all the time. A few minutes later our luggage arrived, again from a very polite man of the hotel personnel. We were overwhelmed by this very warm welcome.
The service at the AI restaurant was also very polite and extraordinary caring. The Buffet (starters, main dishes, desserts) serve a huge variety of - of course - typical food (delicious currys) but also more common food like noodles, rice, vegetables, etc. The dishes are always fresh, the starters and desserts are also served in separated air conditioned glass-separees from the main dining hall.
A very polite waiter explaind the different areas to us. It was very helpful for the first time being here. The pool area and the pool itself is very clean, the pool personnel always polite and quickly delivering some towels for the pool chairs. The same politeness applies for the bar and the whole staff we've had the pleasure to meet so far.
We can defenitely recommend this hotel. Thank you and your whole team very much for this unforgettable experience!

My husband and I had a very enjoyable stay at this hotel. The rooms were very comfortable and maintained well. The room cleaning service was done methodically and linen changed daily. The view from the room was stunning. On the 1st night we had dinner at the Cabana restaurant. I ordered a baked crab which was the tastiest dish I have ever tasted in my life. I must congratulate the chef Ashantha for the excellent food. The Food and beverage staff in particular Tharanga Athauda were so obliging and did a superb job. Since the food served at all the restaurants was so good it was appreciated by the good turn out of residents who patronized the Ranthalu restaurant in particular. The ambience was nice. The local musical group that provided the traditional music was also very entertaining. The manager and the front office staff too were so obliging and helpful.I would recommend this hotel the Royal Palms hotel to visitors to spend a quiet weekend .I was also very sad to notice that the beach had been affected by sea erosion. We missed the sea bathing and walking on the beach I hope the management does something to prevent further erosion. I sincerely hope that when tourism picks up this hotel will be well patronized. First visit to Sri Lanka, hotel was fabulous, very clean and well maintained. All the staff were great, they couldn't do enough for you, we have visited all around the world and I have to say the staff here exceeded all our expectations. The Japanese restaurant was a big 10 out of 10, and a quick mention must go to the chef Asantha, and the steward Shashimal, amazing people. In the main restaurant we had so much fun and laughter and very much appreciated the service from our favourite stewards Jayasath, Manjula, Sanjeewa, and Wathsala all of whom where very attentive to our varied needs, especially getting my wife's honey in the morning for her coffee. The restaurant manager was very professional and made us laugh every day, he even had a meal sent to our room when my wife was feeling under the weather, well done. When it comes to pool attendants, there are none better than Piyatha, Sarath and Neeman. Our room was expertly cleaned and refreshed every day and night, with some tremendous towel art from Manesh and some lavish flower and petal designs almost daily. Each night, the room was turned over if needed, again, to a very good standard.
All the times we have been abroad, we have never participated in any pool activities, but found a new friend in Nuwan, the animation instructor. Had many deep and thoughtful talks along the way, even took part in a pool tournament with other guests, organised by Nuwan, which went very well.
Food at the hotel was extremely delicious with lots of choice and well cooked and presented, even room service was exceptional.
Staff on reception were very knowledgeable and very polite, as were the doorstaff, who assisted us with taxi's and local information.
In our room, we were very impressed with the amount and variety of toiletries supplied, not needing to hunt in our suitcase after a long, long flight and able to refresh instantly.
In our eyes, the only let down was the beach outside the hotel, quite a steep walk down to the sea, which was normally a little choppy to say the least, but that is down to Mother Nature and beyond the control of the hotel. We actually paid for a taxi to take us to Bentota beach for the day, which was fabulous, well worth the visit. The hotel even supplied lunch/breakfast bags, which were free of charge on the all-inclusive tariff.
There were numerous trips to go on, too many to mention, but if you get the chance, do the river safari down the Bentota River area, absolutely brilliant, saw things in the mangroves you wouldn't believe.
If we have missed anyone out of this review, we are very sorry, but I've got to say, we will be returning to this hotel, it was like our second home, and we were very sad to be leaving, a very good sign of a wonderful visit.

We had our wedding at Royal Palms on 29th July 2020, with an outdoor poruwa ceremony. I must say that the hotel staff went beyond their duties to help us with the wedding preparations. Especially Ms Hiranya and Mr Tharanga helped us a lot arranging everything that we asked for. And no enough words to describe taste of food. When choosing the buffet menu Ms. Hiranya suggested us dishes that we hadn't tasted before and at the wedding when we tried them, we were truly happy that we listened to what she suggested. Combination of dishes was perfect. Guests were really happy with the desserts as well. When it comes to location, there were so many nice areas with Natural lighting and nice antique furniture to use as background. We are photography couple and I did the wedding decoration on my own, during photography session and while doing decorations, we were not disturbed in any way. We can say that choosing Royal Palms for our wedding was a good decision and worth the money. Highly recommended!!!

We chose to have our homecoming in August 2O2O at the Royal Palms Beach Hotel, Kalutara. From the beginning, Ms. Hiranya, the banquet manager helped us a lot to choose a suitable menu and in preparing other arrangements. The location was mesmerizing with architectural artifacts and the hotel itself was unique, edged with a beautiful beach. Food was really good and they did provide a good service to our guests on our homecoming day. Overall, everything went smoothly, we had no stress on our requirements as the hotel was very flexible. We received a good feedback from the guests as well. We would like to recommend this hotel to anyone, for any function as they will provide you with options to suit your budget.

Travelled with Mercury Travel for an all inclusive week. Arrived around 3 pm only to be told that we were too late for lunch but if we wanted something to eat, we would have to pay for it. When we went to dinner we were told that you were only entitled to one small glass of wine - any more and you would have to pay £6 per glass. Only one of the three restaurants is included in the “all inclusive” deal and that provided very poor quality food. Complained to the management but all they would offer was a food and drink upgrade if we paid $8 each per day. All inclusive it isn’t and shame on the hotel. To add insult to injury, the sandy beach is covered in oil!

I visited for a lunch out to my sister’s birthday, they are warmly welcomed us with including sanitation on this COVID-19 situation, they recommend us The Cabana Restaurant what the restaurant nearest to the beach. It was realy wonderful place with realy calm environment, and they are realy flexible with our requirements as well. I really appreciate the service of Mr. Madusha and his friendly staff who served us the foods and Cheff Naaditha who prepared us delicious foods for our lunch. Thank you Royal Palm, we will definitely visit back again as soon as possible.

In 2009 and 2011 we spent two weeks each time in this excellent hotel. We many times had intentions to return, but were unlucky to find available rooms until now. We are indeed very lucky to return. The hotel was exactly as good as in 2009/2011 despite of obvious challenges due to COVID.
The hotel is beautifully located right on the beachfront. A nice garden is surrounding the accommodation houses. A really large and clean swimming pool with plenty of wooden sun chairs and comfortable matrasses ensures a great experience of relaxation.
We choose Half Board meal arrangement. Very good assortment both at breakfast and dinner. The lunches we normally had in either the sushi restaurant or the seafood restaurants within the hotel. Another option is to visit some nearby restaurants outside the hotel premises. However, we felt we got "more for the money" while eating in the restaurants within the hotel.
The rooms are spacy, clean, nicely decorated. Cleaning staff is attentive and friendly.
In general, the whole staff, with no exceptions are very friendly. The lady in the pool bar is super-nice and helpful. Customer relations handled perfectly by Paba. The Manager Sanka also very attentive and helpful.
We have been looking for many other places in Western and Southern Sri Lanka,, but based on our experiences during 13 years and three stays, we are convinced this will also be our hotel at our next stay.

Great beach resort, had an enjoyable stay just after the reopening been an ICC. Enjoyed the food, service and Pool. Further alignment would certainly come in once the resort is in full operation. Room AC temperature is non adjustable thus felt warm. Suggestion: To issue disposable gloveses for the diners during the meal hours as a best practice of post covid resort operations.

The beach by the hotel is gone, but I believe there is a way through to the beach further down from the hotel.
The rooms are fairly spacious, so shouldn't be an issue if you have a bed added for a 3rd adult.
There is a way through to the beach and then you can walk or even swim.
You get 2 bottles of water in your room every day and if you are on all invlusive yiu can get bottled water aĺ day long at the pool bar
Local alchoholic drinks are in the all inclusive gins vodkas rims whiskyvetc
