The room was on the 3rd floor overlooking the garden. The room has a bed, sofa, table, refrigerator, safe, TV, air conditioning, kettle, wardrobe. I would like to especially note the large comfortable bed. 2 bottles of water, tea and coffee set, shampoo, shower gel, conditioner, soap were replenished daily. Hairdryer available on request at reception. The safe did not work right away, after contacting it it was repaired within an hour. There was a need to repair clothes, and the receptionist gave me a set of needles and threads. Do not accumulate negativity in yourself, but immediately seek help. Upon arrival, we bought a 20 GB SIM card at the airport for $5 and did not use the hotel WiFi.

The beach is municipal, the part opposite the hotel was cleaned once a day. There were waves every day, which for us was the highlight of the ocean, we rode the waves to our heart's content. We swam in the ocean at any convenient time: before breakfast, during the day, at night we didn’t dare, although no one forbids it. There is not a fast current along the shore from left to right. All sun loungers are on site by the pool. The pool itself can be used at any time, except for water treatment. There is a problem with beach towels, which the hotel management promises to solve within a month.

We had half board, breakfast and dinner. The cuisine suited us 100%; we had seafood and fruit in the morning and evening. We ate on excursions in restaurants of other hotels, as well as on the beaches, so there is something to compare with. Here it is correct to compare restaurants in one country, and not to compare them with other countries. Special thanks to Chef Pasan for the cooked barracuda that we caught in the ocean. After an excursion to Yala National Park, the other hotel guests and I were an hour late for dinner; we contacted the senior manager of Chaminda and upon arrival, dinner was waiting for us at the restaurant. One of the guests had a birthday and in the evening after dinner she said about it, at that moment we talked with the owner of the Athula hotel and told him about it, within 5-10 minutes the waiters brought a small cake for the birthday girl.

There is live music in the restaurant lobby 3 times a week. There is no animation in the hotel, so entertainment is up to your taste and imagination. We went on paid excursions and on our own routes. The hotel was closed due to Covid for over 2 years and is still recovering, but it left a pleasant aftertaste.

I thank the hotel owner Athula Makavitage and general manager Shantha for the attention and care they showed us during our stay at the hotel.

I was planning a trip for the new year! Overall good! Very helpful staff, ready to do everything to make you enjoy your stay at this hotel! The area is not large, but very well maintained, the pool is cleaned every morning and every evening. In the morning for breakfast I would like more variety, but every evening there are shrimp and seafood. When I checked in, I didn’t like the room, but within 10 minutes I was offered another one with an ocean view. Swimming in the ocean will not hurt anyone who loves waves; they are not small here. There are always scourge fights on the beach and they offer excursions and fruits, take you to the city by tuk tuk, but the prices are different for everyone. One scourge boy offered to buy a yellow mango for 1500, although its price for this period was a maximum of 450-500! Based on reviews, I went with Anu, his prices are just SUPER 👍! 10 times lower than others! He understands and speaks Russian and English, and is ready to tell you where to buy fruits, spices, and souvenirs at reasonable prices. He and I went on an individual tour to Sigiriya, and on the way back we stopped at the Golden Temple of Buddha and still had time to visit the botanical garden and a family tea factory. On the way to the hotel we didn’t have time for dinner, but Anu called the hotel back and ordered us a late dinner, when we arrived the table was set for us. I highly recommend it 👍 Anu is honest and decent (here is his number +94 77 907 5187)

We rested at the end of March - beginning of April 2024 at the Club Waskaduwa hotel. The staff is very polite.
Upon arrival, they brought us juice (a small thing, but nice). We settled into a nice big room. Questions about the room that were raised during the holiday (they were minor - for example, about the safe) were resolved quickly.
The food at the hotel is delicious and varied (we ate up on seafood, there were shrimp, squid, fish, there was also chicken, pork, beef, side dishes - rice, vegetables, potatoes, pasta..., soups, etc., all in different interpretations , some spicy, some not, for every taste).
Special thanks to the chef for the excellent food.
The hotel is located on the first coastline. But no one is located directly on the beach. Sun loungers and umbrellas are available on the hotel premises. But immediately you step outside the fence and there’s the ocean.
The ocean in this part of the island is stormy. The waves are big. We swam, some didn't.
We were on the beaches of Hikkaduwa, Unawatuna, Bentota - there are no such waves there. The beaches are "pop". Of course, there are a lot of people. Here who needs what.
In terms of the area, you have to understand that there is nowhere to go for a long walk. You leave the hotel - there is a road, there is traffic, it’s uncomfortable to walk.
By the way, there is a railway right next to the hotel. But the trains didn't bother us.
There are small shops nearby. There is a cafe (we didn't go to them).
Near the hotel on the beach you can buy fresh coconut (for about a dollar) and freshly squeezed juices from the locals.
We took excursions from these same locals. There were pluses (cost, small groups of excursionists, wherever anyone needed a store - they stopped without question, there is a 2-day excursion in one day), there were also minuses (somewhere it was their own fault, they didn’t specify - the road to Ella, Kandy mostly along the serpentine road, the ride is long and difficult).

Overall I really enjoyed my stay.

The hotel is dirty, water flows everywhere.
The balconies are dirty, the Jacuzzi on the balcony is not working and is rusty.
The floors are covered in mold, which is hidden behind decaying carpets.
There was not always a buffet, only when locals arrived, otherwise orders were from the menu. The menu is not varied.
We organized a private party for Indians (extremely loud) and they didn’t respond to requests to turn it down or stop this zoo, we had to swear because of which it was stopped closer to one in the morning, and after 30 requests.

The exit to the balcony was broken, when they called cleaning, they decided to fix the balcony, because of which we could not rest in the room (for three hours), they began to offer another room when we were leaving in a day. Requests to leave everything as it is and let us rest were ignored by the staff, we had to go to the manager to ask them to leave our room.

Cleaning came when we set “Do not disturb”, so when you don’t want to be disturbed, it’s not a fact that they won’t come. At the same time, when you put a notification that cleaning is required, they may not come.
I really don’t recommend coming here, I’ve seen a lot of hotels and a lot of staff working in them, but this hotel takes the star for “The Worst Hotel.”

This is just a terrible hotel in one word. Service is zero. We vacationed with my husband in April 2024. When we arrived at the hotel, we were immediately asked for a tip, you see, for a room overlooking the ocean, despite the fact that the rooms were almost all free. Entering the coma, we saw a complete nightmare. There is parquet on the floor that has come apart and seams the size of a little finger. All the furniture is in very old, worn condition. When I saw their towels, I thought it was a doormat; they were just black, even though they should be white. As a result, for the entire period of time they did not clean the rooms at all. If you call them to clean it up, they will come and sweep it up with a broom and that’s it. Towels are not changed. This is about the room, about the staff at the reception, this is a completely separate story. Not one of them understands Russian. No matter if you ask them, they shrug their shoulders and don’t know anything. We visited through a translator and it did not help. As a result, what they stand there and what they are doing is not clear. So the impression of the hotel was simply terrible, everything that is written in the description is all nonsense. Behind the hotel there are locals offering excursions with them, be very careful, they deceive and very strongly. In general, I advise you not to go to Kulatora, it’s a very terrible city and people.

I went with my family in January 2024, it took 2.5 hours to get from the airport, if you go from the airport yourself and not by transfer, you can easily get there in an hour/1.5. It is also close from here to Colombo, 50 minutes by tuk tuk. Our most beautiful hotel among those where more tourists were brought, modern style, large swimming pool, cool rooms. We took the ocean deluxe, they gave us a huge room with a jacuzzi on the balcony. Everything in the room is clean, there is always drinking water and hygiene products. BE SURE TO GET ALL INCLUSIVE. Don't waste your money, there aren't many cafes around, and the ones that exist don't inspire confidence. And everything in the hotel is clean and safe. Plus any drinks without restrictions. You can also come to the restaurant at any time and order whatever you want from the menu for free. Squirrels run around the area and a local monitor lizard walks around. There are waves all the time, but everyone swims calmly. There are always locals near the beach offering money exchange, coconuts, excursions, etc. You can contact them with any request. The prices there are low, if you take a tuk tuk from the hotel they will charge from 500 rupees in the city, and near the ocean they will charge 300 rupees. Their main boss there is Danu - don’t hesitate to contact us, we went on excursions with him - super! Much better than traveling as a tourist group and waiting 5 years for everyone. Here you have an individual car and you move at your own pace and it’s super cheap!!! For Ella, we paid $190 for three, while the tour operator costs $160 per person.

Hotel pluses:

Very friendly and good hotel staff.
They let people bring their own drinks and brought them glasses and ice cream.
The room with a sea view was normal, comfortable bed, nice food.

Hotel minuses:
First if all the hotel does not match the photos. From the pictures tou can see that The hotel has a view of palm trees and a sea view, but it is actually overgrown with shrubs, the palm trees are cutting and the sea view is not even visible through the overgrown shrubs.
Bad location. The hotel is untidy and dirty. Sewage leaking in the middle of the hotel's lawn.
Beach towels are collected after the day, not washed but dried, and given to customers the next morning.
Rooms are not cleaning.

Every day something keeps breaking or not working. If you ask to fix- they agree but do nothing.

In general, I understand that Asia has different standards and procedures, but the hygiene here is very deplorable.

The beach are not comfortable and very unsightly.I will never come back to this hotel.;)
Every day russian music. No another music only russian.

Good afternoon.
We rested from September 21 to September 29, 2023.
Overall impressions are good.
Pros:
+Hotel for a quiet and family holiday
+ Large room with a fairly good renovation, large bed, but slightly shabby furniture.
+We swam in the pool day and night
+Friendly and friendly staff, we met the owner of the hotel (a tall man with glasses). Good and kind guy)
+Cleaning every day. Once they even made swans out of towels and decorated the bed
+ The ocean is right behind the fence, beautiful sunsets in the evenings
Minuses:
- The hotel was partially renovated. Constantly renovating something in the rooms
- The declared bar on the 4th floor with a beautiful view is under renovation. in general, everything on the 4th floor was under renovation. We didn't see any beautiful views from the roof.
- The gym is abandoned, there is dirt and dust everywhere
- In fact, only 1 bar and restaurant were open
- Lack of alcohol. We had everything inclusive, there were times when there was no rum in the evening. Usually this happened when employees of tour operators arrived with all sorts of inspections, a good clearing was covered for them, and as a result - a lack of alcohol.
- Nobody speaks even a little Russian)) download Google translator.

Overall: a good hotel for a quiet holiday; if you don’t go on excursions, it will be boring. There is practically no animation, a group comes in the evening and sings Russian songs, once there was dancing.
The beach is nearby, but dirty because the waves bring everything and no one cleans it. We couldn’t swim in the ocean, there were big waves, we went to other beaches, as the locals said, September is not the season. There are Beach fights behind the fence, you have to bargain with them, because everyone has different prices and someone is trying to overcharge.
We talked with one of the locals named Sasha, a nice guy, he drove us into the city in a Tuktuk for 200 - 300 rupees, accompanied us everywhere, showed us shops and markets. He offered the lowest price for an excursion along the river, to the turtles and to the beach.
There are also excursions on Instagram; we went on an excursion with Dani. He speaks Russian well and as a plus you can pay for the excursion by transfer to a Russian card.
Near the hotel there are a couple of restaurants along the street, but there are no activities nearby.

Views - Beach View and Land View

We family friends were heading to the hotel with lovely little girl age of three.

Car Park
There is a car pak in front of the main entrance of the hotel and it has enough space to park the vehicles, but only issue with open to sky :)

Welcome

The staff of the hotel welcome us by offering a welcome drink and following health guidelines of the pandemic situation, stayed few minutes for the process of checking procedure completed, by the time were directed to the our rooms.

Rooms

we got two rooms but felt like one large family room, because it has a door which can access both ways, the little one was enjoyed it well.
It makes new experience for all of us.

There are different types of rooms available in the hotels as such Garden/Land View, Sea View.

The room's floor renovated recently and bathroom with smart equipment/accessories

Garden/Swimming Pool
with the current economic situvation of the country , only few people were there at the hotel, but that made more peaceful environment to me and others.

Swimming pool is clean and well maintained , baby pool also there.

The hotel belongs a garden which somewhat small, but clean environment by facing to the west coast.

Food
Evening tea with piece of Cake
Local and Imported Liquor were served we only had some wines
There were different type of food items for all 3 meals, food was average.
we all were including little one were enjoying with food items.
restaurant service is manageable and helpful.

Value for what we expensed

Please think twice before making reservations in this hotel. Though it is a Five Star Hotel worth just the sea view only for the money spend.
Worst customer service I ever had. They even don’t care about their customers.

Restaurant

01. We found an ant in the jam plate.
02. So many flies were in the restaurant and they just ignore it even if we complained.
03. Plates were not cleaned well (found dust)
04. Cutleries were not cleaned well (found dust)
05. Bakery items were not fresh.

Room

01. Didn’t provide essential amenities (as this is a 5star hotel) such as hair dryer, toothpaste, shampoo, water glasses.
02. Hot water is not functioning.
03. Floor is not Not cleaned well and there were no any rugs or carpet.
04. No any room cleaning service
05. We received just two 500ml water bottles and they were charged for extra water. (In 5 start hotel, they are giving only 1l water for 24 hours for couple)
06. Door locks are not functioning well. (hard to lock and unlock)

Overall

01. Careless treating to in-house guests.
02. List is not functioning.
03. Time to time they are asking to settle the restaurant bills. We were asked three times.
04. Card payments are not accepting, asking to pay by cash.
05. Not issuing printed bill, we have received manual bills only.
06. In the advertisement they were mentioned like this, “Unlimited Clubwaskaduwa Signature Cocktails. (6 PM - 7 PM)” but never received such offer.

Hi Tony, we stayed in January and must say this is the best hotel we stayed at throughout our time in Sri Lanka. If you can, please request a pool view room. Hotel facilities are good and staff are very friendly. We stayed in the hotel throughout, but can agree that it is a little distant from restaurants/bars and the airport! Make the most of the pool area, but keep away from the beach access if you do not want to be harassed by the beach boys!! It will be the best way to relax and unwind at the end of your holiday!!

No activities around, very boring. This hotel is for if you plan to just stay in and not go anywhere. Otherwise I would suggest a hotel in Mirissa.
