We were upgraded to Ocean Deluxe on arrival. The rooms are spacious and comfortable with a small balcony, overlooking the Indian ocean and large-sized pool. The A/C, Hot Water and TV work fine. The washrooms include rain shower and bath tub. The swimming pool and beach area is well maintained. We stayed during off-season so all other aspects of the hotel were not in operation. Meals were very tasty, filling and served to the room in a hygienic manner. Thanks to Front Office Manager Mr Kalana. We had very limited staff interaction but all the staff were very warm, welcoming, smiling and agreeable. Would definitely recommend and stay again. Service, Food and Hospitality all Excellent.

I selected Club Waskaduwa after going through reviews on trip advisor and their Facebook page. I contacted Front office manager Kalana Fernando to reserve a room with a separate (i.e. non-central) A/C and I was provided as requested. I opted for a sea-view room and the room matched the images provided by the hotel as well as prior guests.
We had specific food requirements/restrictions, and the staff at the restaurant (esp. Thusitha, Sandun were quite helpful in accommodating our special request esp. even with à la carte orders. We were also provided a cake by Mr. Kalana Fernando on complementary basis to celebrate a birthday. Housekeeping requests were also promptly responded and coordinated by Damith at the front office. I am mentioning names as I strongly believe in identifying people who go out of their way to maintain customer satisfaction.
The hotel has a excellent view overlooking the sea with easy access to the beach. The food options provided were well within our expectation. While the hotel caters for locals and resident foreigners only as at present due to covid, most staff members do follow strict health regulations in my observation.

In summary, my recommendation is in sync with most of the reviews here. Would certainly recommend the location as an excellent choice for a quick (i.e. short distance from Colombo) getaway on the south western beach.

After massive research on various locations, we finally concluded our cousin brother’s honeymoon stay hotel. Once the location got confirmed as Club Hotel Waskaduwa, I emailed the reservations email and got hold on the Reservations Manager, Mr. Kalana Fernando. We did exchange many emails about the requirements of their stay at the hotel. Mr. Kalana was very friendly and cooperative as respond me very quickly and an informative manner with the Honeymoon package they have in the hotel, which was a very good deal with the additional requirements we had planned for them on their stay. All the additional requests were accepted and delivered by Mr. Kalana and his team without a fail.

They stayed in a very spacious room called Ocean Premiere Suite, the food was fantastic as they had verities on the cuisines and the hotel kept all the health guidelines and measurements according to the government rules on COVID-19.

We as his cousins wanted to give a surprise to the newlyweds, so we arranged a very romantic dinner and a special arrangement in their room during the stay. We ordered all the products and the supplies for the arrangement through Wishque.com, daraz.lk & Wine World. Mr. Kalana and his team were very helpful, they collected the order from the Wishque delivery and did the complete arrangement very carefully by giving importance to every detail we mentioned through emails and verbally.

The couple mentioned that when they entered the room after the dinner, the whole arrangement was exquisitely romantic and had a perfectly magical time. The couple had a wonderful quality time with each other during their stay, plus the whole surprise was the cherry on top.

We would like to thank the whole team of Club Hotel Waskaduwa, and most importantly to Mr. Kalana, who was there all the time to reply my lengthy emails, and helping us throughout until they left the hotel safely.

The WORST visit ever....

The service is not worth for the price. These guys serve the locals like dirt. The guys at the reception were only concerned on us until they charge the full payment at the time of the check in and after that, we were left out to figure out everything on our own. The restaurant hardly answers the phone to help us. We were served a cheap welcome drink in a shot glass and they served a micro sized piece of cake at the eve tea. The dinner set menu has only 5 choices and we need to select one from them. And for dessert they have only fruit salad OR watalppam..

We are so dissappointed about our decision to go for this option.. it’s like dine in a cheap Chinese restaurant 😕😕

The room was on the 3rd floor overlooking the garden. The room has a bed, sofa, table, refrigerator, safe, TV, air conditioning, kettle, wardrobe. I would like to especially note the large comfortable bed. 2 bottles of water, tea and coffee set, shampoo, shower gel, conditioner, soap were replenished daily. Hairdryer available on request at reception. The safe did not work right away, after contacting it it was repaired within an hour. There was a need to repair clothes, and the receptionist gave me a set of needles and threads. Do not accumulate negativity in yourself, but immediately seek help. Upon arrival, we bought a 20 GB SIM card at the airport for $5 and did not use the hotel WiFi.

The beach is municipal, the part opposite the hotel was cleaned once a day. There were waves every day, which for us was the highlight of the ocean, we rode the waves to our heart's content. We swam in the ocean at any convenient time: before breakfast, during the day, at night we didn’t dare, although no one forbids it. There is not a fast current along the shore from left to right. All sun loungers are on site by the pool. The pool itself can be used at any time, except for water treatment. There is a problem with beach towels, which the hotel management promises to solve within a month.

We had half board, breakfast and dinner. The cuisine suited us 100%; we had seafood and fruit in the morning and evening. We ate on excursions in restaurants of other hotels, as well as on the beaches, so there is something to compare with. Here it is correct to compare restaurants in one country, and not to compare them with other countries. Special thanks to Chef Pasan for the cooked barracuda that we caught in the ocean. After an excursion to Yala National Park, the other hotel guests and I were an hour late for dinner; we contacted the senior manager of Chaminda and upon arrival, dinner was waiting for us at the restaurant. One of the guests had a birthday and in the evening after dinner she said about it, at that moment we talked with the owner of the Athula hotel and told him about it, within 5-10 minutes the waiters brought a small cake for the birthday girl.

There is live music in the restaurant lobby 3 times a week. There is no animation in the hotel, so entertainment is up to your taste and imagination. We went on paid excursions and on our own routes. The hotel was closed due to Covid for over 2 years and is still recovering, but it left a pleasant aftertaste.

I thank the hotel owner Athula Makavitage and general manager Shantha for the attention and care they showed us during our stay at the hotel.

The hotel was very poorly maintained and everything was too old. Rooms were dirty including the sink, bathtub and sofa. However faculties in the room were good, indicating this would have been a very good hotel some time back. Water pressure of the shower was too low and the air conditioner in the room was making a huge noise so we couldn’t even stay in the balcony to enjoy the view.

The food was very tasty and satisfying. Nevertheless, cutleries looked too dirty which we think is because they were so old and should have been replaced long time ago. However the quality of food was good enough to ignore the old cutleries.

We were said the pool is open from 7a.m. to 7p.m., yet, the pool boy was cleaning the pool until 7.40a.m. leaving us to wait for him to finish cleaning which also made us late for the buffet. He put chlorine to the pool after he finished cleaning, leaving the pool floor full of chlorine and making it a bad pool experience.

If you wish to visit this hotel it's a waste of money and time. Don't get carried away by the pictures appearing in their website or the awards the hotel won in the past (as they say). We booked 3 rooms on FB basis and checked in on 13th April (stayed for 2 nights) Although our check-in time is 2 p.m. we got the rooms at 6 p.m. The pictures in their website were taken maybe years ago. The hotel has not been properly maintained for many years and is in very poor condition. Even the basic amenities available in a 2 star hotel are not available in this hotel. Food is also average and they serve the same items every day. Once we found hair in food. Their intercom system is also not working and instead they have given a cell phone number to contact the front office during our stay. However, the front office and the entire house is closed after 8 p.m. and there was no way that we can contact anyone in the hotel after 8 p.m., even in an emergency. There is no 24 hour room service or front office available in this hotel. We ordered extra water bottles and it didn't come. The WiFi is also very slow. I could have stayed at home and enjoy the holidays instead of visiting this place.

Please think twice before making reservations in this hotel. Though it is a Five Star Hotel worth just the sea view only for the money spend.
Worst customer service I ever had. They even don’t care about their customers.

Restaurant

01. We found an ant in the jam plate.
02. So many flies were in the restaurant and they just ignore it even if we complained.
03. Plates were not cleaned well (found dust)
04. Cutleries were not cleaned well (found dust)
05. Bakery items were not fresh.

Room

01. Didn’t provide essential amenities (as this is a 5star hotel) such as hair dryer, toothpaste, shampoo, water glasses.
02. Hot water is not functioning.
03. Floor is not Not cleaned well and there were no any rugs or carpet.
04. No any room cleaning service
05. We received just two 500ml water bottles and they were charged for extra water. (In 5 start hotel, they are giving only 1l water for 24 hours for couple)
06. Door locks are not functioning well. (hard to lock and unlock)

Overall

01. Careless treating to in-house guests.
02. List is not functioning.
03. Time to time they are asking to settle the restaurant bills. We were asked three times.
04. Card payments are not accepting, asking to pay by cash.
05. Not issuing printed bill, we have received manual bills only.
06. In the advertisement they were mentioned like this, “Unlimited Clubwaskaduwa Signature Cocktails. (6 PM - 7 PM)” but never received such offer.

The reception was very impressive and it defined the quality of their own way of hospitality. House keeping seems fine as we had a well arranged living space with comfy furniture and amenity, the ocean view from the room's balcony added more colors and joy to our family time in the room.
the whole place was spic and span so did not have fear for prevailing pandemic transmission until we leave.
Food and Beverage staff was not that bad and had a great food experience in the spacious restaurant.
eventually it was a memorable two night stay in a cosy ocean deluxe room and looking forward to spend another relaxing getaway at this wonderful ocean front Resort and spa.

Thank you reservation manager and the staff for giving us an unforgettable holiday experience and care.

Views - Beach View and Land View

We family friends were heading to the hotel with lovely little girl age of three.

Car Park
There is a car pak in front of the main entrance of the hotel and it has enough space to park the vehicles, but only issue with open to sky :)

Welcome

The staff of the hotel welcome us by offering a welcome drink and following health guidelines of the pandemic situation, stayed few minutes for the process of checking procedure completed, by the time were directed to the our rooms.

Rooms

we got two rooms but felt like one large family room, because it has a door which can access both ways, the little one was enjoyed it well.
It makes new experience for all of us.

There are different types of rooms available in the hotels as such Garden/Land View, Sea View.

The room's floor renovated recently and bathroom with smart equipment/accessories

Garden/Swimming Pool
with the current economic situvation of the country , only few people were there at the hotel, but that made more peaceful environment to me and others.

Swimming pool is clean and well maintained , baby pool also there.

The hotel belongs a garden which somewhat small, but clean environment by facing to the west coast.

Food
Evening tea with piece of Cake
Local and Imported Liquor were served we only had some wines
There were different type of food items for all 3 meals, food was average.
we all were including little one were enjoying with food items.
restaurant service is manageable and helpful.

Value for what we expensed

Hi! Also, you can try to use Uber. We went from Colombo using it, it's about 2600-3000 rupees. BTW You can buy a sim card in the airport.

Hi Tony, we stayed in January and must say this is the best hotel we stayed at throughout our time in Sri Lanka. If you can, please request a pool view room. Hotel facilities are good and staff are very friendly. We stayed in the hotel throughout, but can agree that it is a little distant from restaurants/bars and the airport! Make the most of the pool area, but keep away from the beach access if you do not want to be harassed by the beach boys!! It will be the best way to relax and unwind at the end of your holiday!!

No activities around, very boring. This hotel is for if you plan to just stay in and not go anywhere. Otherwise I would suggest a hotel in Mirissa.
