There aren't a lot of guest houses or hotels in Jaffna and TCT was by far the best of those we checked out in terms of value for the budget traveller. Rooms are large, there's a large inside common area and a small patio with tables and chairs. Not much English spoken there but everyone was very friendly including the guests who seemed to be mostly young business travellers. It's just a short walk from the railway station, just over a km to town and the adjacent upmarket hotel has a fine and well priced outdoor bar! TCT needs to get its own wifi.
This is a small guest house off Hospital Road. It is right next to the Green Grass Hotel (follow those signs). The room was spacious with two large beds, a desk and even a fridge. Bed sheets and blankets were old and worn, but clean. The room had a fan and AC (you pay extra if you want to use the AC). No mosquito nets. The bathroom was large. One towel, soap and toilet paper was provided. Overall the room/bathroom didn't feel clean. They cleaned the essential parts but as soon as you looked in a corner it was kind of filthy. The advantage is, that there is a shared living area with a couch and tables. Also outside are 3 tables where you can hang out. That makes this guest house is ideal if you are a small group and want to spend some time together outside the rooms.
