Just got back, after 4 weeks, we had a great holiday, Ananda and all his staff were great, food excellent, fab beach, beautiful area What more do you want for 40 bucks a night including breakfast again basic, fruit, toast, eggs, all you have to ask if you want more. Rooms are good, some would say basic, but rustic would be a good discription, some with Aircon and some with fans, You want to chill, this is the place to go.πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

Prior to making reservations for a 10 night stay in one of the so called deluxe rooms of this property we were fascinated by the many favorable recommendations of this place. Yes, the property is located right on a sandy wide open beach and you have a wonderful view from your first floor balcony. The hotel, in our opinion it meets the criteria of a typical Sri Lankan guesthouse rather than a hotel, is located 15 minutes from Hikkaduwa by tuk tuk. The rooms including the so called first floor deluxe rooms are extremely small and offer little space to store your belongings. By deluxe the owner probably meant the air condition and the balcony which differentiates the first floor rooms from the very basic ground floor rooms. The only tv is in the reception area and will appeal to cricket lovers, about the only program which was on most of the time. The free WiF worked best in the morning but was very slow and limited to the day time hours between 9 am to about 10 pm. The free breakfast which was was served after 8 am included the same every day: tea or coffee, eggs, toast, jelly and butter and the choice of fruit plate or juice. The restaurant was closed most evenings but featured excellent soups. Based on our experience this hotel may be ok for backpackers and short one or two day stays but is certainly not fit for a beach vacation.

we were a group of 9 friends that booked 5 rooms (3 normal at the ground floor, and 2 luxury with AC, at 1st level) coming from Europe. The only good thing about this "hotel" is the location, is on the beach, in a quiet area. However we have a list of negative things: 1. poor breakfast, bad coffee. If we had fruits, we didn't had fresh or the other way around. Fruits are very cheap in Sri Lanka so we couldn't understand why we receive so small portions... 2. we wanted a barbecue for lunch and the owner said no way since is too hot outside. We found a very good restaurant just near (20 meters from White Pearl - Sunrise hotel which makes you whatever you want, what you want and great WIFI,) 3. the rooms from ground floors were very bad: very bad smell, water with no pressure, bad pillows, bad mattress, no shower gel. The only difference between this and the "luxury" was the air conditioner. 4. the WIFI was almost not working. very bad. 5. In the last day, we wanted a late check out since we had to leave at 8 PM to airport. The owner didn't agree and make us pay for an entire room one night (50 dollars) although we wanted only for 5 hours. When we wanted to make showers (all 9 of us) he became very angry that only 2 persons can make shower, not 9...but again we paid 50 dollars for 5 hours of stay, at least showers we should have been able to take for the amount we paid. 6. the owner was very rude and arrogant. He never said hi or asked if we need something. For food we recommend the Sunrise restaurant, is 20 meters near White pearl, when you go out on the beach you go left. Great owner, knows English, the family is cooking and serving, great WiFi and wine, very good price.

Overall the hotel is pretty good value for money. The room is adequate but that's about all. Food is good and well priced. Staff are polite and helpful. Wifi is a joke!! Four out of five days there was no wifi and on the 5th day it was so slow as to be useless. The location is okay. Right on the beach which is really great but about 3km from the "life" of Hikkaduwa. If you're looking for peace then this is perfect. If you're looking for action then move a bit closer to the main beach.

Stayed here for 6 nights in March 2017. Great hotel, with friendly staff, in a super location right on the beach. Only advice we would give is that "toiletries" consists of a bar of soap, the electric plugs are "round" three pin types not normal UK, but the owner loaned us an adapter. Also Hikkaduwa centre is further than we thought at 3 or 4km, although its a very enjoyable walk along the beach
