It’s a mere 4 hour drive from Colombo, hidden away within the beautiful village of Kalundewa in the historic town of Dambulla. As you drive in through the narrow footpath unwinding at its entrance, the reception area greets you with its strikingly open structure made possible with a blend of wood, steel and glass. Facing the reception is the lake and the wooden platform reaching out into the calm waters surrounded by Kumbuk trees, sit in the lounge and take in the picturesque lake nestling cozily amongst a ring of mountains listening to the soft musical bird-songs.

The setting of this retreat is stunning! We went for the Water Villa Nil Manel, but all of the accommodation is very well done, with private settings and amazing natural settings. We sat watching an eagle building it's nest for a while. Food is good, but it the setting and the

We stayed here for two nights and it was unforgetable. There is only 8-9 rooms spread across so you hardly see anyone, which is great if you want to unplug. The grounds are huge and its great just to cycle around and explore! The sunsets over the rice fields are awesome! There

10 out of 10 in terms of experience - a glorious setting, with amazing wildlife on your doorstep and not far from Sigiriya (about 40 mins). We loved roaming around the land on bikes, and the swimming pool was one of the best I’ve seen. The hotel was nice, we very much enjoyed

Dear Valued Customer Thank you very much for your recent stay and for the lovely review about Kalundewa Retreat. Our whole staff is happy in reading the favourable comments. We do love the facts that your experience at Kalundewa was a 10 out of 10 experience. The comments about Sri Lankan cuisines are highlighted and our chef is always willing to tailor-made any local or western dish according to the requirements, even though that's not available in a menu card. As you have mentioned cleaning of glasses are a big challenge in the monsoon season. Since we wanted to give a nice panoramic views of the nature and the surrounding, the chalets are being built with tall glass windows. In fact we have won the national architectural award also for this unique design. The holed does its excursions with a qualified Naturalist/tour facilitator to have extra care and give valuable information for the tourists. We do provide cameras, Binoculars, refreshments, Snacks and even Full meals for our guests who travel with us. The guests have the opportunity to get valuable information from a qualified ornithologist for their birding tours. This may be the price difference from outside parties. We wish you would come back for another memorable stay with us We can't wait to welcome you again at Kalundewa Retreat. Thank you again for the inspiring comment Heshan Ranaweera Manager- Kalundewa Retreat

We chose to stay here as we were looking for a luxury stay en route to Sigiriya. The rooms were very unique and lodge like, with standard rooms (cheapest) to suites for couples to family suites and even honeymoon suite on the water. The property is a little over 100 acres and

Dear Valued Customer Wow! What a lovely comment about Kalundewa Retreat. Thank you so much for your recent stay with us and for the detailed review. Our whole team including Chef Dinesh and Anuradha are happy in reading the favourable comments. We do love the fact that you have enjoyed our rooms, services and surrounding. Sri Lankan cookery demonstration is one of the very interesting and enjoyable activity at Kalundewa. You can ask plenty of questions from the chef and his team to get more knowledge. Make sure you take more recipes from the chef to try at home. We hope you would come back again for another memorable stay with us. Thanking you Heshan Ranaweera Manager-Kalundewa Retreat.

Do yourself a favour, and book in to Kalundewa Retreat ... you won't regret it! Wow - from the moment we arrived, until the moment we (sadly) left - everything was incredible. We left the busy-ness of our normal working lives, and had 3N / 4 days of total zen. We did not
