We stayed with others in three rooms. Upstairs room did not have any hot water, the guy could not fix that problem, we had hot water but try to adjust to take shower was a challenge! No soap, and I complained but nothing happened. We had TV but wires hanging around, no signal! Dirty combs in the drawers. Rooms are big, washrooms are small. Dark and not enough lights. We went to their restaurant and asked us to go to the inside hotel dinning section. Our order came after 45 minutes later. My Biriyani and my sisters rice and curries were very cold, I got stomach upset same night and the next day! We did not know how long the food was sitting in the display area! To get a morning tea one had to wait 10 minutes. To check out and pay the bill we had to wait again! Maybe Grand long time ago not anymore! Management needs to do more things to get that Grand name. We will not recommend this hotel to locals or tourists. Needs big clean-up to get this hotel up to the star class! There are enough decent hotel rooms cheaper than this one around that area.

Terrible room accommodation. Air condition is very noisy and air is blowing straight to face. Bath rooms/ toilets very dirty. We had 3 rooms booked. One of the rooms had cockroaches. Hotel Manager was very moody and unfriendly. All rooms are very small. Food is terrible and has no taste at all. I'll never go back again. I told the Manager about this when we checked out but he didn't even bother to give us an apology. Shouldn't even be rated 1 star. They advertised as free wifi but wifi doesn't work in the room. No fans in the dining area. It's like you are sitting in a Sauna and having terrible meals.

We don't understand how this hotel possibly got its 3 star rating. The staff are non existent, as mentioned in previous review, we had to make a lot of noise until someone showed up. The manager makes minimal effort to be helpful. There is one waiter who can speak English and he was very friendly and seemed to know more than the manager! The rooms were far from nice. The bed sheets had stains and rips in them, although clean this is still off putting. The air con in the room was very noisy and we couldn't get it turn the fan down. We asked to hire bikes for the day and made our request the afternoon before. In the morning the bikes were still not there and the manager decided to make us wait another 15min for them while he went to another guesthouse to get bikes. Breakfast was good, although they did ask a time and then didn't serve until half hour after the time. Overall the standard of this hotel, both in staff and general upkeep, is extremely poor. We have stayed in homestays all over Sri Lanka and have had far better experiences for way less money! Don't stay here until they decide to get their act together!

I had an interesting experience at the Grand Crown Hotel. The building seems quite modern, with nice clean rooms and a comfortable bed. The food was very nice, however when I was checking out, I found that the price of items on the menu were not what I was being charged (before service charge has been added). This was reluctantly amended. But be careful if you order food/drink there! When I first arrived the customer service seemed great too - they helped me with wifi problems and gave me a power board when my adapter didn't fit. Beyond that, the staff seemed almost non-existent. There was never anyone at reception, nor in the managers officer or dining room. I'd walk through the entire hotel without seeing a single person, and I often had to start making loud noises in the dining hall to get someones attention. When I did finally get staff attention, the service ranged from excellent to less than average, depending on who I was dealing with. Overall I probably wouldn't stay here again. The lovely clean rooms don't make up for the creepy emptiness of the hotel and as a solo traveler I didn't feel entirely secure there.
