Rajarata Reach Resort is located not more than 3KM away from the Anuradhapura railway station. Tri Shaw/Three Wheeler/Tuk Tuk are not metered. Station to the resort 150-200 LKR(75Euro cents to 1Euro). Chammika the owner, manager and in charge of all are well supported by his lady Upuli. A very friendly young couple who takes great pride in their property. The room which I had was facing the road with air condition. Cleanliness of the room, linen, bedding and the wash room was commendable. Please be prepared to negotiate with 15 to 30 steps with your luggage. In a summary it is a place value for money with excellent service.

My friend & I loved our stay at Rajarata Reach. Husband & wife hosts were delightful and very kind. Really helpful advice on how to visit the ancient city- we chose Tuk tuk rather than bicycles (too hot for cycling!!) LKR 2000 for 4 hours. Delicious home cooked food for evening meal. We had the front room with a balcony. Very modern and super comfy beds. As other reviewers have said the front entrance is a bit off putting & it is a steep climb up after a tiring long journey. However the warm welcome, comfortable stay and kind hearted hosts far out weigh this.

the room is very modern with all the necessary features. The shower had warm water what is not allways the case in Sri Lanka. The host provided me with some good ideas about visiting temples in the neighborhood of Anuradhapura and in the old city itself. I rented a bike with him and it was lovely to visit Anuradhapura like this. At a certain moment when visiting Mihintale it was raining that hard that my clothes were completely wet and the hosts took care of it because it was difficult of drying them in the room. I had the room facing the road and if you are a light sleeper it is advisable to take some earplugs.

We stayed at Rajarata Reach Resort for one night and would recommend staying here if you are in Anuradhapura! The entrance is a bit off putting and I was slightly worried about where we had booked to stay but I shouldn’t have been. The room was large and spacious, with air con and a large balcony. It was immaculately clean and well presented. The only comment I would make is that because of the mosquito nets on the bed you couldn’t sit comfortably and the only other chairs were plastic but this was fine as we were only there for one night. Breakfast the next day was good and very cheap for the quality. The owner was super helpful and spent time explaining the route we should take to see the ancient city. We had emailed in advance and he had bikes ready and waiting for us which was great. There was no attempt to up sell a Tuk Tuk tour which we appreciated. Overall we would definitely recommend staying here.

From the outside (and its street entrance) it didn’t look very promising, but on the whole, it was a pleasant stay. Located along Anuradhapura’s main street, the hotel is only about 200m north of the Old Bus Station, and 100m north of the Pizza Hut. It was easy to find. The room was spacious and clean on arrival. It looks to have been newly remodelled. Getting up to the room however meant navigating the relatively steep stairs. There is no lift -- not that I expected one for a hotel in this price category, but stating it here in case any reader needs to know. I had the room facing the main road, which has pros and cons. With its large windows, it had plenty of natural light. Smokers might like the balcony. On the other hand, traffic noise is audible through the day, though it gets much quieter at night. However, traffic starts again at about 6:30am, so if you’re a light sleeper and want to sleep in, this may be a problem (it wasn’t for me). The computer shop on the ground floor also likes to play music from time to time, which can be heard all the way up in the room. It was never too loud; it was actually quite nice to have music while I did my emails. For the price I paid, I expected these features and they were provided: comfortable bed with mosquito net, a generous number of power points (4 or 5 of them) for charging equipment, good lighting, and a lockable drawer for valuables. Alas, no writing desk. I could use the tables up on the rooftop terrace instead, but wifi was very weak up there. Speaking of wifi, it appears to drop quite often, but reconnects soon enough. Wasn’t a serious problem. The airconditioning worked wonderfully and quietly and thermostat control was precise. It did however fail one afternoon, but the owner got it fixed within the hour. I record his prompt attention as a positive, I do not record the failing airconditioner as a negative, since it was so quickly fixed. The bathroom came with spanking new fixtures. Except for the water heater which I never quite understood how it worked, all were in good working order. The water pressure was good, and drainage good too. I actually had no need for hot water to shower in since the days were so hot, a cold shower was what I wanted at the end of each day. Rajarata Reach Resort has both western and Sri Lankan breakfasts. The Sri Lankan version comprises a set of local curries and vegetables, but alas no fruit (which is important to me). The western breakfast comes with fruit. There are 5 or 6 other food places within a few hundred metres of the hotel along the main road, opposite the Old Bus Station, but they all tend to serve the same Sri Lankan dishes. There are pharmacies, convenience stores and a popular bakery in the area too where you can cool off with coffee and cake. A bit further south of the Old Bus Station (i.e. 500-600m south of the hotel along the main road are ATMs and a “Family Supermarket”. Overall, the hotel’s location is a convenient one. The owner Chamika, and his wife, were wonderful hosts. For example, although daily room cleaning was not included (not expected at this price level, nor did I really need it), he offered it as a service anyway since the staff were quite free (it was low season). He was also a wonderful source of information as to which places in the “Sacred City/Ancient Ruins” park were free and which were with paid entry. I would stay there again. I give this place a “Very good” rating (relative to price), which on my bell curve of ratings is clearly above average. It misses out on an Excellent rating because of the few minor shortfalls mentioned above (e.g. no usable wifi on roof terrace, no desk, traffic noise). Certainly, it’s good value for money.
