I stayed two nights at the Maison Rose on the island in St Louis. I loved the artwork and the courtyard. The room was as others have said; this is not a brand new five star hotel. No hair dryers (you'd probably burn up the electrical system with a high powered one), typical Senegalese shower with old tiles, lots of...

To look at, this hotel is just gorgeous - an old colonial building, the exterior wall a riot of bougainvillea, a lovely inner courtyard lush with plants around which the hotel rooms are located on the ground and first floor. On the first floor, each room has a different colour and decor - yellow walls in one, blue in another,...

and thats why I wanted to stay there. Well, if this is the best Hotel, how do the others look like? The whole place is totally run down. Yes, it could be a wonderful place but then it Needs someone who knows how to run it. The "carpet" on the stairs is so disgusting that your shoes do not want...

Like many places in Saint Louis, this place hasn't been kept up. Courtyard is beautiful, but rooms are dark and faded and sometimes broken. Oddly, there's lots of strange murals of naked Senegalese mulatto women all over the hotel, even in the rooms. Breakfast is basic and wifi is slow. Wouldn't be so bad if you didn't have to pay...

I've stayed at La Maison Rose twice in the past 6 months. The rooms are damp and a bit mildewy. All windows are covered so as to block all light. Decor is dated, although the bathrooms are quite nice. The rooms do, however, have refrigerators. A nice roof top bar and small breakfast. Staff are friendly and helpful. Lovely exterior...

With our little family we visited Senegal and used 'la maison rose' as home to visit and enjoy the northern part of Senegal. We enjoyed every minute of it. I liked the calm and lazy :-) atmosphere in the city as well as the smiles and helpfulness in the hotel. Very nice big and comfortable rooms!

I loved every minute of our 5 day stay in this beautiful historic hotel. The room and the whole hotel was charming. The staff was very helpful. Don't expect 5 star business hotel standards folks; it's a romantic historic inn in the former colonial capital of West Africa!

Depending on your expectations, hotel is very basic: deco is outdated, rooms smell humidity, water tanks barely had hot water for one hot shower, room paint is pealing off, out of all places i stayed in Senegal this one needed mosquito nets most and it is not have it, food was basic, etc…Yes, property is large, but has not been...

this hotel is in the centre of the 'old village'. The village is very basic, so do not expect luxury here! The building is very charming, rooms are large and nicely decorated (pity that the sheets and covers were not so clean). Bathroom could do with a simple upgrade; hide the boiler, add some furniture, fix the toilet seat, and...

Has potential because of inherent charm of the building, but staff just OK. Most other hotels we have stayed at in Africa have been quite welcoming. In addition, facilities are barely average for the higher end tourist circuit. Perhaps we could have done better in this city; not sure......
