I have family in Galati and when we visit we usually stay at Vega Hotel. I've just returned from my annual trip to Galati and I can say I was pleasantly surprised by the services offered by Vega. Somehow, everything was better than ever before, the staff was attentive and courteous, we got a free upgrade, and the quality of the restaurant was excellent. The rooms are clean and spacious, and the view of the Danube is spectacular. Also, the receptionist who attended us during check out (sorry for not remembering hos name) was extremely confident and professional, it was obvious that he was a seasoned professional. We will come back to Vega on our next trip.

Getting there

It takes about 3.5 hrs by car from the center of Bucharest, road is fairly good but only limited stretches are quasi dual carriageway, stray dogs and horse drawn vehicles add to excitement.

The hotel is situated on the River Vega, fairly central to most things and in the summer the riverside becomes very popular with restaurants, bars etc.
Checking in was quick and friendly, they do not take AMX, only Visa and MasterCard.

The Room
I had an upgraded room on 9th floor with nice view of the river, it is spacious but a bit sterile with no tissues or safe for valuables.
Internet was included and reasonable speed, but patchy.
Bed was reasonably comfortable.
They had a very clear and sensible policy on smoking in rooms ( see photos ) which many hotels could learn from. My experience is that in most hotels of this type they are slack when it comes to accepting people smoking in non smoking rooms, the result being that most if not all rooms have that stale smell.....here it did not.

Bathroom
The shower is over the bath and whilst plenty of hot water, it does struggle a bit with cracks around the edges of the bath, and for reasons unknown when the wind outside picked up some quite strong and unpleasant smells coming up from bathroom floor drain ( overcome by placing and weighting down a plastic bag over it ).

Bar
The bar is on the ground floor next to reception and seems mostly frequented by shipyard experts coming out from Europe so can get quite noisy, not helped by tiled floor and a lot of hard surfaces. Service though seemed friendly and quick.

Restaurant
Did not eat at the restaurant but as others have observed, it looked pretty utilitarian. Breakfast was included on first floor and was help yourself and was OK, nothing special.

Overall it is a 3 star hotel and by all accounts the best one in Galati, did not have any real atmosphere for me but the price seemed reasonable, and generally ( but not always ) you get what you pay for, I would return.

The hotel is located very close to Galati center and few meters from Danube. The staff seems to speak a good English, rooms are ok, the breakfast as well etc…
I find out the bathroom not to be “the very best” let say it…but I can survive with that. If you want to take the lunch or dinner you only need to walk 100m (on the back of the hotel and you can find some nice restaurants (i.e. Marco Polo). Probably you can have it in the hotel as well...but why?
I’ve been there in a business visit, staying alone in the room (and I paid something like E60+ per night). A strange thing happen as my wife visited Galati in the same time (& of course she was coming to stay with me) and the guy from reception stop us: “aha…extra guest..who’s she? You need to pay more…” or something like this, which sound so ridiculous at that time. But I understood this is a common practice in Romania to have different tariffs for single vs. double occupied rooms.

So, don't expect any intimacy if you want to bring a guest to your room (you need to know her name at least :) ).

I never tried a worse breakfast in any hotel. Nothing was good. And i'm not a precious.
When i reported it to the front desk they said it's not their business and i should write a complaint.
After that, my wife asked them by phone to send us the bill by email. The email received by us with the bill was a forward to the front desk girl demand, who was very rude.

Over the last 6-7 years I have stayed at many hotels in central and semi-central Galati. Last Saturday was my second stay at this hotel. One night only... I did requested in advance a standard room on the 10-th floor with a balcony and my request was granted. Thank you! Room was large enough, clean, with flat screen TV, kettle with coffee and tea provided, clean bathroom with clean towels and some basic toiletries. Bed was comfy! East view over the city and Danube fron the narrow balcony was spectacular. Continental breakfast was all cold (including cold fried eggs and cold burned omlette). Coffee was decent. This is the most expensive hotel in central Galati and I am not quite sure is worth the money...

We stayed at this hotel for three years in a row now, either in one of the Executive rooms or the Presidential suite, which sounds fancy but is a very decently priced and spacious apartment. By far, this is the hotel in Galati with the best view of the Danube and Danube's boardwalk.
The hotel staff is excellent, very helpful when needed. The hotel's bar is also very nice, the bartenders there are really professional.
Whenever we will travel to Galati to see family, that's the place where we will stay and I would highly recommend this to you.

Clean spacious rooms, attentive staff (even on very late night), good location with nice view on Danube. We took prsidential suite, which is really large even for 5 persons, Quite farily priced. Breakfast is average but acceptable. Recommend for short overnight stay.

I stayed at Hotel Vega in Galati, Romania for about 30 days on business. The staff was very friendly and helpful with any questions or requests I had. Food was excellent and the location is great. Be careful turning into the parking lot with all the traffic going and coming. Only one negative during my entire stay was "House Keeping" would never knock before entering your room. Every single day some lady would just use her key and enter your room un-announced! I recommend this hotel for business or pleasure.
