I had heard good things about this place sad but they are not true. Reception had booked me in on tbe wrong day saying they expected me the day before. Put me in a substandard room that smelt of damp and mould. Room walls dirty bathroom same. This room should be taken out of service untill they have repaired the leak from the shower that flows into the Bedroom area. Lighting is just 2 bare flouros no bed lamps. Wardrobe if gou can call it that is broken and reeks of damp and mould. Tje nice looking ponds are nothing more than pools of water full of algae ripe for breeding mosquitos. The staff are pleasant enough about the only saving grace.
Clean, spacious hotel rooms located just a 5-minute drive away from the Mount Hagen airport. The staff was extremely friendly, and the restaurant was excellent. However, no internet and the hotel could not run my credit card. Moreover, the room was quite noisy - any noise made in the hallway came right through the walls and door. Finally, the hotel is pricey for what you get (though no more so than other properties in the area).
Had to stay in Mount Hagen overnight with work. It is very close to the airport, clean, comfortable and secure. The hotel also provides a shuttle service for the airport. The rooms are very spacious with air conditioning.
This is no luxury resort, but if you need a clean, secure place to stay for a one or two nights with attentive service this is conveniently located close to the airport. The rooms were spacious and clean, but had a slight smell. Several rooms lacked working bathroom lightbulbs that were promptly replaced. The restaurant food was good, but took a while to come out. The food and beverage waitress, Lucy, was the best part of the experience -- warm, friendly, attentive, and super-efficient! Please get wifi though!
We had a booking at McRoyal for the Hagen Show weekend. We had been trying to get in touch with them for a few weeks to confirm airport pickup, etc. with no response. We were getting concerned so we contacted Booking.com and finally got a response a couple of days before we were set to arrive via Booking and via FB messenger. Then the day before we were supposed to arrive, we received a message that their system online wasn't updated and mistakenly allowed us to book their regular rate of 480K/night (~$150USD) instead of the "show weekend" rate of 800K/night (~$250USD) and they would not honor the rate at which we had a confirmed booking for several weeks. Keep in mind, this is not a particularly nice, very basic hotel and their regular rate is already very expensive for what you are getting, even by PNG standards. While I understand having special event rates, but it was THEIR MISTAKE that they did not update their rates. If they had actually replied to my multiple emails, voicemails and messages, they could have informed me soon after I booked and then I would have had a few weeks to find other accommodations at a reasonable rate. (Highlander is much nicer and cheaper than 800k.night for a basic room.) Also, it's not like I was trying to get the room at 50 kina or some price at which they would have taken a loss. I had booked at their NORMAL rate! It’s unconscionable that they would not honor the confirmed rate that I had held for weeks. We refused to be scammed by this hotel and had to scramble to find another booking in less than 24 hrs. (We did.) It was completely ridiculous and honestly should be illegal. Don't book here! Go to Highlander and if they don't have availability, get a deluxe room at Kimininga. Anywhere but McRoyal! P.S. We went by the hotel on the way to our hotel. The location is way out from the center but also not very close to the airport. Just in the middle of nowhere.…
