We had a private double room which was quite small but the bathroom was ok. The bed didnt seem to be very clean. Unfortunately we were very disappointed in the restaurant. The service was bad (they forgot orders, were slow and unmotivated)! Luckily we found the Bar Margarita (5 min from the Hacienda), cheap and great local food. The good... More

Great spot but don't think you will be getting any peace and quiet if you are on the ground floor. Kids start school at 7.30 and their whiteboard backs on to one of the rooms. Like what they are doing in helping the local school children but doesn't make for a relaxing stay as they are running around screaming all... More

The dorm room was not available so I was put into a private 4 bedroom at the same price as for a dorm room, which was great (fair enough though, not my fault it was not available). The location is awesome if you are trying to get away from it all, I really liked it because you spot lots of... More

I personally had a very pleasant stay here, however during our stay there was a robbery in a room during term night while people were sleeping. Apparently, just after we left there was a rape and more things stolen during the night. Hopefully security will be taken more seriously and it was am isolated incident.

Stayed here back in 2009 and then Feb 2016. its a great quiet base for the fun way up Maderas Volcano. The dock is the place to be for sunsets. Food and service is top notch and room prices are low. There are a few eating options within walking distance that are good.

Merida is a bit out of the way compared to the busier towns on island. After San Juan, its a 10-15min drive on a rocky unpaved road. So a bit isolated, which has its appeal. It is however near the waterfall and volcano Maderas, moreso than other towns. The estate is very nice. The private rooms, especially upstairs ones, are... More

We stayed at Little Morgan's for a couple nights and decided to check out a quieter hostel. Hacienda Merida is beautiful, one of my favourite hostels that we stayed in. Our private room had comfy beds, good bug nets and a huge comfy hammock just outside that overlooked the lake. The food was fantastic, and staff are friendly and helpful... More

I visited Hacienda Merida for just 2 days in December 2015 and was a little disappointed. But, once I read about the Ometepe Biillngual School that the hotel supports and the environmental advocacy and cleanup the hotel is involved in, I had to go back. Just returned today from a 2-week volunteer stay teaching English there and I'm already planning... More

I can not recommend a stay at the dorms of hacienda merida: they are everything but clean. Also the toilets and showers have a cleaness issue, and they are full of small flys. Maybe the other rooms are better, I have not seen them. Don't expect a nice beach for swimming (although the sunrise is really nice). Also apart from... More

Beautiful view of volcano Concepcion. Hotel staff is extremely friendly, helpful and available. Book upstairs rooms as there is more breeze and they are quieter and there is more light. For reference, there is a school operating within the hotel during daytime (9am-3pm) so can become a little noisy but nothing too disturbing as you probably will not stay within... More
