This was the highlight of our 2-week travels in Morocco. We wanted to do desert camping on our own instead of a tour rushing you from Marrakech to Merzouga so I book this hotel as a starting point and from there onwards they took care of everything. The staff and management is from Merzouga village so they know everything in and out and do actually go out of your way to ensure all aspects. I asked questions about camping at the time of booking this hotel and I was provided complete details and pricing so we took CTM bus from Ouarzazate to Merzouga and we were picked up from the Merzouga bus station, even though that bus arrives at 9PM. They communicated through the app to check on your arrival time and meals in advance, upon arrival we were provided 2 different room choices to pick the one we like and dinner was ready also in 20-25 mins. Next morning I paid cash for the camping and we were told that whenever we like to go to the desert they will take us, as generally they take guests at 4PM but in our case we left for camel ride to the campsite around 12PM or so. Prior to that I asked if a quad trip is possible and they arranged for 1 in just 15 mins. Everything from camp to meals, sandboarding and all other activities were very good and well thought off. After a night in our luxury tent we took a 4x4 ride back to Dar Tafouyte where our luggage was kept in the same room from the day before and we took our taxi to Fez which was also arranged through them. If you are thinking of desert camping and authentic experience just arrange for you to get to Merzouga on your own and these guys will take care of the rest. 5-star and simply outstanding. There is nothing negative about the place or the experience. Their prices, I found are a lot more competitive then others who provide tour services. They property is also well spread out and there is a pool.

People there are very warm and friendly, always ready to help if you have any questions. My family and I arrived late and they welcomed us with dinner. We slept one night in a hotel and the next one in a luxury camp. During the day we had fun relaxing, swimming in the pool, driving buggies... The accommodation was good and clean, you could see the dunes not that far away from it. In the evening we headed towards the camp on camels and to watch the sunset (it was a fun first time experience but personally next time I would avoid camels and go with a 4x4 as we did on our way back since it gets quite uncomfortable to be on them). We had the camp all for ourselves. Tents were big with very comfy beds and a shower with hot water, there was also wifi. After dinner we enjoying Berber music around a camp fire, while dancing and drumming together. It gets cold during the night in the desert and very hot after 9am in tents. Waking up for a sunrise is a must and sandbording was fun. Overall great experience!

I can't recommend enough staying in the Riad Dar Tafouyte! :D

I originally booked a desert tour with Audax Events, and Dar Tafouyte was the riad where we left our bags before going to the desert camp. However, upon my return to the riad to take my bag and drive back to Marrakesh, I changed my mind and decided to stay a bit one day and night in the riad so that I could enjoy a day in Merzouga.

I was received by Ibrahim, the owner, and Hassan. They welcomed me with some tea and helped me a lot in order to arrange a way to stay one night longer. I felt like they really cared about the costumers' happiness, and not about money like many other people in the tourism sector. They seemed genuinely nice and treated me as if I was an old friend. They speak so many languages, btw! And their Spanish is flawless.

The riad is so stunning that I felt like I was a princess in a castle. The decoration, full of Amazigh motives, makes it so cozy. The views from the terrace are amazing, you can see the desert, Merzouga and the surrounding towns. The whole riad is really clean and the food that I ate was great. The two boys at reception, Ismail and Mohamed, were so nice, polite and funny! Because the coronavirus situation was getting worse, there were no many tourists in the riad at the moment, which was awesome for me and my friends, because we could become very good friends with the staff- we talked, chilled, play drums, watched the sunset, drank tea together... I was so sad to say goodbye to them! We became very close in a short time.

I wanna say thanks to Ibrahim and Hassan for their help and hospitability. To Ismail and Mohamed for their kindness and great service. To Ali for taking care of us in the desert. To Said and Morbak for guiding our camels. And to the 'guys of the quad' Ali and Mohamed for their knowledge and coolness, even though they don't work here. I hope I didn't forget anyone, because I really felt like everyone was super nice and accomodating. I hope to see everyone soon!

I really don't know how to start this review, as there are not words enough to express how grateful I am to have discovered this little paradise in Merzouga. Brahim and his team deserve the best review I can write.
From the facilities with very nice and clean rooms (the outside houses or the rooms and living/dinner room in the main house), an awesome swimming pool and small relaxing areas a little bit here and there, to the amazing food we were served for breakfast and dinner (maybe the best we had during our weeks in Morocco), everything was top of its class at Dar Tafouyte.
The camel trip to the desert is obviously something you can't miss. The camping site behind the dunes of Erg Chebi is really nice. And unlike most of the other guesthouses and hotels, the Dar Tafouyte has it's own exclusive site, so you stay in a much more private place under that astonishing night sky, and that feels really good after climbing all the way up the dune to watch one of the most beautiful sunsets we've ever seen (and we're portuguese, so we consider ourselves sunset professionals). The tents are clean with plastic covered mattresses, so not sandy at all, and dinner was good as always. We were lucky to be the only group there at the time, so we had the two tour guides just for us and it was a super cool night with a jam session and jokes after dinner.
I really have to recommend this place. And if you're coming from a long trip all the way from a busy and noisy city like Marrakech, the peaceful Dar Tafouyte is going to feel like heaven on earth. Or even better, like heaven on the desert.

Thank you Brahim. Sooner or later, I know I'll be back. Insh'Allah!

(Just a last small detail. After leaving Merzouga, half a day driving away from there, in a small talk at a gas station, a local guy asked us where were we coming from. Merzouga we said. 'Oh, the gates of the desert is a beautiful place. And where did you stayed?' We replied at Dar Tafouyte. 'With Brahim? Oooh... best place in all the region. You we're very very lucky.' And yes, we were.)

This Riad may not be on the main road but don't be deceived by appearances either. The welcome you receive is matched by the best pool side area located next to a desert. The riad is spotlessly clean and the garden areas are a riot of colour.
From this Riad you are able to organise treks into the dunes of Erg Chebbi by camel. These tours leave late afternoon allowing you to enjoy the cooler evening temperatures and the stunning sunsets. Our camel driver Barack gave us many opportunities to take photos and made sure we were enjoying the ride.
As night fell we arrived at our camp and were provided with separate and comfortable beds in tents with close access to flushing toilets and washing areas.
The camp workers set out to make sure we had a great desert experience by cooking us fabulous tagines, (they even catered for vegetarians) dancing and singing and showing us the evening stars.
When you thought it couldn't get better you return early the next morning by moon light to enjoy the sunrise. The slow steady tramp of the camel and the majestic silence of the dunes would make any heart joyful.
This has been the highlight of our Morocco holiday and we hope to be back for a longer trek next time.

Our room was filthy. It was full of dirt, sand, and dust that had not seen a cleaning since the 1900’s. Literally everything was covered with the stuff. And, some of the furniture was in disrepair.

The shower had no water pressure and the water never got even warm let alone hot. The sink was crooked and did not drain. Anything more than a trickle of water and it would overflow. The two hand towels were basically different rags that would not be good for a car wash.

Lighting was horrendous. We could barely see the rooms let alone try to read. And, the internet did not work in the room so we were in bed at 9:15 because there was nothing else to do, not even a tv.

The pool was green and we could not see the bottom. This was a strong indication of a chemical imbalance, algae, and unsafe conditions.

Both the inside and outside dining areas were inundated with flies making sitting in either spot very uncomfortable.

Two words come to mind: STAY ELSEWHERE!
