I can't recommend enough staying in the Riad Dar Tafouyte! :D I originally booked a desert tour with Audax Events, and Dar Tafouyte was the riad where we left our bags before going to the desert camp. However, upon my return to the riad to take my bag and drive back to Marrakesh, I changed my mind and decided to stay a bit one day and night in the riad so that I could enjoy a day in Merzouga. I was received by Ibrahim, the owner, and Hassan. They welcomed me with some tea and helped me a lot in order to arrange a way to stay one night longer. I felt like they really cared about the costumers' happiness, and not about money like many other people in the tourism sector. They seemed genuinely nice and treated me as if I was an old friend. They speak so many languages, btw! And their Spanish is flawless. The riad is so stunning that I felt like I was a princess in a castle. The decoration, full of Amazigh motives, makes it so cozy. The views from the terrace are amazing, you can see the desert, Merzouga and the surrounding towns. The whole riad is really clean and the food that I ate was great. The two boys at reception, Ismail and Mohamed, were so nice, polite and funny! Because the coronavirus situation was getting worse, there were no many tourists in the riad at the moment, which was awesome for me and my friends, because we could become very good friends with the staff- we talked, chilled, play drums, watched the sunset, drank tea together... I was so sad to say goodbye to them! We became very close in a short time. I wanna say thanks to Ibrahim and Hassan for their help and hospitability. To Ismail and Mohamed for their kindness and great service. To Ali for taking care of us in the desert. To Said and Morbak for guiding our camels. And to the 'guys of the quad' Ali and Mohamed for their knowledge and coolness, even though they don't work here. I hope I didn't forget anyone, because I really felt like everyone was super nice and accomodating. I hope to see everyone soon!…
No words can describe the wonderful time we had at your place! Thank you so much, Atman (and team), for being such a warmhearted person and making our time unforgetable! Certainly a live changing experience...showing us what really counts! We´ll be back...insh´allah!
Our tour company used this hotel as a drop-off for our night in the Sahara. We were given a room (although didn't sleep there), and it had traditional architecture, a hot shower, working AC, and a good size swimming pool which during the hot days would be very welcome. The desert tour we were taken on from here was about a 2 mile camel ride to their camp. Typical breakfast was good when we got back. Breads, yogurt and an egg. Oh, and they did have FROZEN water which was very welcome for such a hot environment, and we were able to drink throughout the night. Bonus points for that.
Relaxed environment with an outstanding breakfast. Recommended for visitors with own car. The Way to the camel tracks is quite close. The landlord was very polite. After the Camel track he allowed to stay as long as we want to relax at the pool
This Riad may not be on the main road but don't be deceived by appearances either. The welcome you receive is matched by the best pool side area located next to a desert. The riad is spotlessly clean and the garden areas are a riot of colour. From this Riad you are able to organise treks into the dunes of Erg Chebbi by camel. These tours leave late afternoon allowing you to enjoy the cooler evening temperatures and the stunning sunsets. Our camel driver Barack gave us many opportunities to take photos and made sure we were enjoying the ride. As night fell we arrived at our camp and were provided with separate and comfortable beds in tents with close access to flushing toilets and washing areas. The camp workers set out to make sure we had a great desert experience by cooking us fabulous tagines, (they even catered for vegetarians) dancing and singing and showing us the evening stars. When you thought it couldn't get better you return early the next morning by moon light to enjoy the sunrise. The slow steady tramp of the camel and the majestic silence of the dunes would make any heart joyful. This has been the highlight of our Morocco holiday and we hope to be back for a longer trek next time.…
Our room was filthy. It was full of dirt, sand, and dust that had not seen a cleaning since the 1900’s. Literally everything was covered with the stuff. And, some of the furniture was in disrepair. The shower had no water pressure and the water never got even warm let alone hot. The sink was crooked and did not drain. Anything more than a trickle of water and it would overflow. The two hand towels were basically different rags that would not be good for a car wash. Lighting was horrendous. We could barely see the rooms let alone try to read. And, the internet did not work in the room so we were in bed at 9:15 because there was nothing else to do, not even a tv. The pool was green and we could not see the bottom. This was a strong indication of a chemical imbalance, algae, and unsafe conditions. Both the inside and outside dining areas were inundated with flies making sitting in either spot very uncomfortable. Two words come to mind: STAY ELSEWHERE!…
we were very happy with our location in Dar Tafouyt. It was nice and clean and people are very friendly. At the time of arrival is possible to book it for dinner at the hotel and it was absolutely fantastic. Thanks Dar Tafouyt
We spent one incredible night in Dar Tafouyte's desert camp as part of a desert trip from Marrakech with Morocco Desert Trips. The experience was fantastic -- we got to take in the vast and beautiful desert, our guide (Omar) was fantastic and the accommodations and food were very good. Our camel ride in (while not always the most comfortable) allowed us to appreciate the vastness of the desert. Our guide, Omar, did a good job leading the way and made us feel more comfortable on top of our camels. We rode most of the way to the desert camp before stopping to take in the sunset from one of the dunes and then making the short final trek to the camp. We had a few minutes to walk around near the camp and enjoy the last hour or so of relative illumination (there was also a snowboard and skis available if we had been interested in getting in a quick run down one of the nearby dunes). After a tasty dinner (soup and chicken tagine), we spent some time taking in the incredible star-lit sky, before the various guides and staff built a fire and played some Berber tunes. The camp itself is pretty remarkable. There were a series of fully enclosed rooms (the best way I could describe them would be a tricked out shipping container -- it was a lot more comfortable than that sounds!).The rooms had light and an electrical outlet and the camp had two fully functioning toilets (that worked a lot better than many of the other toilets we encountered in Morocco!). The whole operation is powered by solar energy. While the desert gets very cold at night in the winter, we were pretty warm thanks to lots of warm layers and the cocoon of blankets we built on our (again) surprisingly comfortable bed. You definitely want to prepare for this if you visit in Winter! We had an early wake up before our camel ride back, stopping along the way to take in a beautiful sunrise. We had a simple but tasty breakfast at the hotel before making the long ride back to Marrakech. I'd wholeheartedly recommend a stay at Dar Tafouyte, especially the desert camp. And if possible, you should definitely request Omar as your guide.…
