This was my 7th visit to Redang Island and my first time staying at the Coral Redang Island Resort. I stayed here in the middle of September 2020 for 7 nights. During this period, Malaysia was still shut to overseas visitors, we were still in the midst of our Recovery Movement Control Order(RMCO) due to the global Covid-19 pandemic. Therefore, this resort wasn't operating at full capacity during my stay. They had opened up 24 out of 61 rooms for guests and there wasn't any full-board package available. But they had a special discounted room rate of RM200 per night with complimentary breakfast for single occupancy and RM250 per night for twin share also with complimentary breakfast. This resort is located at the quiet end of Redang Island's famous Long Beach, where most of the other resorts are located. The following is a breakdown of my review: 1) Overall Service - A good friend of mine who is based in Redang Island helped me to make the reservations for my holiday here approximately 7 weeks before my date of arrival. My journey here was very smooth; I flew in to the Kuala Terengganu airport in the morning, someone was waiting there to pick me up and send me to the Merang jetty. After arriving at the jetty, I was asked to purchase a Marine Park ticket, which costs RM5 per person for Malaysian citizens and RM30 per person for foreigners, and a jetty pass which costs RM5 flat rate per person. Please take note that all visitors to Redang Island are required to buy these tickets. When my designated speedboat arrived, I was ushered onto the boat by the staff at the jetty and they helped me to load my luggage onto the boat. I normally travel with my scuba diving equipment, therefore, my luggage is usually huge and heavy. The speedboat journey from the Merang jetty to Redang Island took approximately 40 minutes. Upon arriving at the jetty in Redang Island, a staff member of the Coral Redang Island Resort called Isaac, was waiting to welcome me. I was the only check-in guest that day, and he helped me to unload my luggage from the boat, onto the jetty, and onto the tractor trolley which the resort uses to transport their guests from the Redang jetty to the resort. In fact, Isaac took my luggage straight to my room when I arrived at the resort. The check-in process was very smooth, my room was ready when I arrived at around 11.30am. The main reception staff; Nicole & Ira, are very friendly and helpful. 2) Accommodation - I stayed in a superior room, it was furnished with a Queen-sized bed, a small writing table with a stool, 2 night stands(small bed-side tables), a digital safe, clothes rack, a minibar, an electric kettle, 2 coffee cups, 2 drinking glasses, a wall-mounted hairdryer, a hand-soap dispenser at the wash basin and a body shampoo dispenser in the shower cubicle. The room is rather minimalist in terms of furniture and fittings, the clothes rack and safe are placed in the attached 'changing room' where the washbasin and shower-cum-toilet cubicle are located. The room has an air-conditioner and ceiling fan, both worked fine. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the resort implemented a policy whereby housekeeping does not clean the rooms during your stay unless you make a request for them to do so. You can replace your soiled bath & hand towels by bringing them to the main reception desk and the staff will give you fresh towels. You can also get 1 beach towel per person per day from the Dive Centre. One point to note: the rooms do not have any telephone. Therefore, if you need anything, you will have to walk to the main reception to make your request. The rooms also do not have any television and WiFi. If you want to watch television or use the WiFi, you can do so at the main building of the resort, where the main reception desk is located. This resort is very peace & quiet, there are no wild drinking parties, no loud thumping, head-banging music, no evening entertainment. If you want all those, you can walk to the other resorts located further down along the Long Beach after dinner each night. And the beach in front of this resort doesn't have any broken, washed up pieces of corals. The sand here is fine powder white sand. 3) Meals - During my stay, my complimentary breakfast was a set breakfast with a rotation of continental-style breakfast and oriental-style breakfast. The continental-style breakfast consisted of eggs cooked to your liking(scrambled, omelette, sunny-side up or poached), hash browns, chicken sausage, turkey ham, half a grilled tomato, 2 pieces of toast with butter & jam and a tropical fruit platter. The oriental-style breakfast was 'Nasi Lemak', which is a Malaysian delicacy consisting of rice cooked with coconut milk, accompanied by a hard-boiled egg, deep-fried anchovies, pan-roasted peanuts, a few pieces of cucumber and a spicy aromatic sauce called 'sambal' which is made of dried shrimps and shallots. Both of these breakfast sets are accompanied by drinking water and orange juice. The restaurant also offered a lunch and dinner ala-carte menu with a few Malaysian delicacies, Eastern dishes and Western cuisine. I dined here for dinner on most nights and for lunch on a few afternoons during my stay. The 'Char Koay Teow' here is fabulous and it comes with a complimentary glass of iced tea. 'Char Koay Teow' is a dish consisting of fried flat rice noodles with prawns, egg, bean sprouts and spring onions. The other dishes are also very good and the price of the food here is on par with those of other resorts along Long Beach. For example, the 'Char Koay Teow' here costs RM18 per serving and it is served to you on a piece of banana leaf placed on a nice ceramic dinner plate with proper stainless steel cutlery. In another resort just a few doors away, the 'Char Koay Teow' costs RM17 per serving and is served in a disposable Styrofoam box with a disposable plastic fork! I tried several different dishes and enjoyed all my meals at the restaurant of the Coral Redang Island Resort. 4) The Coral Dive Centre - During my stay here, I did 5 dives with them and I rented their equipment to do 3 dives at other nearby islands during my private charter excursions. Their dive instructors and dive masters are top-notch and so is their equipment. On one occasion, I accidentally flooded my own regulator due to my own sheer carelessness! I forgot to screw on the dust-cap on my first stage after removing it from the air tank on board the boat and jumped into the sea with the regulator when disembarking from the boat near the shore after completing a dive. Mr. Wah, the manager of the dive centre, helped me to dismantle my regulator promptly and dry it out, and he didn't charge me any service fees for it! I am sincerely grateful to him for his assistance on this matter, because sea water in the first stage of the regulator can cause irreversible damage to the entire regulator. Besides, Mr. Wah, I also wish to acknowledge Ms. Rina, Mr. Chon, Ms. B 7 Ms. C, who make up the awesome team of dive instructors and dive masters at this dive centre. They provided lots & lots of laughs for me during my time spent at this resort. Kudos to you guys and girls, keep up the great work! 5) Facilities & Activities - This resort has a well-maintained swimming pool, a pool table, a souvenir shop, a dive centre which caters to diving and snorkeling activities, a Television area and a shelf of books for loan. Their massage centre is temporarily closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. You can get complimentary drinking water 24/7 from the filtered dispenser located on the ground floor in the main building. Please remember to bring your own drinking bottles when you come here to stay. Overall, I enjoyed my holiday here and will definitely stay here again for my future holidays in Redang. I wish to thank my friend; James Chang, who recommended this resort to me. I would recommend this resort to everyone who wants to have a relaxing beach holiday in a clean, peaceful & quiet environment. I wish everyone reading this review Good Health and Safe Travels, always! ANd I hope that the global Covid-19 pandemic ends soon, for everyone's sake.…
Tuck in a corner of the island. Perfect spot for someone looking for a quiet getaway. Beautiful beach with soft white sand and crystal clear blue sea. Love the rooms which is spacious and comfy beds. I usually take the full-board stay, making it very convenient come meal time.
We visited here in October and it was very quiet and peaceful. The hotel is very simple with the following pros and cons: Pros: 1. Relatively new complex so rooms were clean and facilities well maintained. 2. All inclusive package and food was simple but excellent (selection likely much less since it was offseason and not busy). 3. Dive centre was well maintained and diving was nice.Instructor was also nice and helpful. Cons: 1. Petty approach for simple things like charging 10RM for an extra beach towel and customer service in general. 2. WiFi (very slow) only in the lobby area and no TV/WiFi in rooms. Overall, Redang Island is beautiful and the hotels here can charge a very high premium given the limited supply without focusing on customer service. If you want a real resort experience I would recommend the Taaras otherwise I think the Coral is one of the better choices along Long Beach.…
The resort having year end promo to travel during month of Oct, taking this chance to have a island trip with my family. Resort reception are friendly, snorkeling crew are helpful and very knowalegable, did 3 snorkeling trips and each snorkeling points are different yet amazing, thumbs up for the good job! Room is clean and comes with comfy bed, nice ambient around the resort as there're not many traveler around. Restaurant serving awesome local and western food, one of the best among the resorts I visited.
We stayed 3 nights at this hotel on a Redang island. The island is so beautiful, we caught a ferry (2hour journey from kuala Terengganu) . When you get off the boat ( no jetty just need to walk to shore.) a tractor is waiting to take you along the beach to the hotel. Beautiful views from hotel onto beach at sea. We had a large room in the hotel with balcony ( no tv, but who needs tv in a place like this.., also WiFi only in hotel main reception room) We stayed all inclusive ( this applies to meals) food was always very good with a self service buffet with about 5 different mains ie curry with rice, in the evenings there might be a western food choice one night it was spaghetti bolognese. Dessert was always just a choice of local fruit. No complaints with the food and staff were always very attentive. Hotel has a swimming pool but the sea is about 20 metres away, hotel offers scuba diving trips and also snorkelling trips ( you can hire snorkels and life vests for very little cost) . We went on a turtle snorkelling trip and a coral snorkelling trips, both were amazing but the turtle trip especially so, we were taken by speed boat to a nearby bay where turtles come to feed, we ended up being in the water with about 5 Hawksbill turtles, was totally amazing and something my 8 year old son will never forget. The beach just along from the hotel has an area of rocks where there are lots of tropical fish in fairly shallow water so we spent a lot of time snorkelling there. All in all a lovely hotel in a beautiful, peaceful place. Would love to return one day!…
