If I HAD to return to this city, I would stay here again. Very clean & affordable rooms, staff were very friendly and helpful. We also booked some tours through them in-house, as we trusted them. Sandakan itself is not a place I would return to, with nothing to offer but the obligatory Borneo wildlife tours which I'm sure can...

The staff were wonderful and helpful. They went out of their way to help my friend and I. The hostel was clean and had a nice common area to socialize with the other guests. The location was one street from the ocean and close to many restaurants.

The Backpacker is really clean and got an extremely friendly staff. The staff speaks very good english and loves to help you, if you have any questions about directions and the area. Rooms and Bathrooms are really clean. Beds might be a littlebit to short, if you're a big person. There's access to unlimited tea and coffee in the lobby...

Although we only stayed the one night, as we passed through sandakan, I would highly recommend staying here. The staff where extremely friendly and very helpful in helping us arrange plans for travel the next day. The hostel had a good social environment and was clean and comfy!

We stayed over night before travelling to sepilok the next day. The staff were amazing- really welcoming and helpful and the hostel itself was very clean and comfortable. We didn't see much of Sandakan itself as it was just a stopover for us but if you are going I would definitely recommend staying here!

I stayed here for just one night in early October but the staff (especially Difi) could not have been more helpful with organising tours, giving directions & tips. There was no problem checking in early, leaving bags while on a 3 day trip & using the hostel as a base on our return, before leaving later that night. The rooms...

Considering how cheap our double room was at 70 MYR for two people (£13) for the night, this hostel was a great place to stay. Had Sandakan town had more to offer, I definitely would have liked to stay here for longer. Staff were ever-present, engaged, and had good English. They had plenty of advice regarding where to eat, what...

Staff very friendly and made us feel very comfortable during our stay. We returned from turtle islands and had a flight that same evening and they let us stay in the communal area all day and use their wifi/ facilities. Would definitely recommend staying here during your time in sandakan

Great place, a very clean and welcoming hostel! All the staff are brilliant! Close to some really good cheap restaurants. Local bus station and mini bus station a short walk away. You can walk many of the sites from here too! Breakfast was basic but very good! And served up until 12! Staff very helpful with onward travel and site...

We were impressed with this hostel - especially the cleanliness. All areas, including the bathrooms, are spotlessly clean so we had no problems walking barefoot. There are nice showers with hot water and plenty of sinks with pump hand soap which is nice. We stayed in a double room which was clean and spacious. The location is good, it's around...
