Having moved on, my clothes, particularly pajamas now smell strongly of smoke and withered old people. Everyone in Malaysia seems to smoke. Knowing this, I specifically requested a non smoking room. On arrival, we were given a room right next to reception, which is a social area. I asked whether smoking was allowed there or in the room and the receptionist said no. When I entered the room, the smell hit me! It was a stale, smokey smell. I used to smoke myself, so am not completely against it, but in a bedroom, I think it's dirty. Despite asking for a non smoking room, there was an ashtray beside the bed. On first appearances, the room looked adequate. After switching on the light, it revealed stained, yellow sheets. However the bed was really comfortable and spacious. The bathroom was like stepping into a time machine. Tiles from the 70's/80's and covered in mould. When I turned the shower on, the head fell off. I tried to screw it back, but it had rusted beyond repair. So I just used it like a hose. One of the taps on the sink didn't work, the other turned on, but it was difficult to turn it off and it would often drip. The hotel is about 20 minute walk from the town centre. There isn't always a clear pavement, but it's basically a straight line. The area is quite poor & run down, but the local children are so sweet and happy. They would come running out to say hello, whenever we walked past, which was a lovely experience. There is a local bus which costs 70cens, but it's much better to walk. There isn't much around park view, except garages. However on the way into town, about 5-10 minute walk. There's a small food market in the evening. With fish/ noodles/rice/deserts & other local dishes. A lot cheaper than the mediocre restaurants in the main town, and the quality is much better. You can also get chicken satay and other delicious finger food. Outside the hotel, there is a lot of rubbish, so expect to see cockroaches, rats & chickens too! Although they weren't noisy in the morning, which was a relief. The area was surprisingly quiet, particularly for just being off a main road. If you're on a budget like us, it is fine for a day or two, particularly if you're just planning to rest your head at night. We saved £15 staying in this double room for 2 nights, instead of a large, shared dorm in the town centre (which was noisy whenever we walked past). The staff here are very friendly and gave us big smiles whenever we saw them. It's just a shame that it can't be renovated and updated to a better standard.

I was surprised coming in this hostel, not a hotel, because it's located in urban building. On first and second floor are hotel rooms. Upper are apartments of residents. Because of walk distance of 15 min. from center, price of taxi from airport is little higher. Passing steps up to first floor is reception. The staff of reception, special lady are more than friendly. The rooms are spacious but not so clean as it can be. Furniture are really old. Even it's located near street , during a night it's quiet and sleeping is well. Walking to reception you'll hear creaking floor. Near reception is fast WIFI connection. There are buses up to center but relaxing walk is better choice. If all of those don't bother you , make reservation you wouldn't be disappointed for such price.

The hotel is one of the oldest hotel in Jalan Leila. The street are very quite a night but you can find a night market (food) within walking distance. We book the rooms online and was quite shock when we were there. The room are very old. But the worse for non-smoker like us is the lingering cigarette smell. The staff inform us that it was a non-smoking area but they cannot stop what the client are doing in their room. We saw the security guards smoke a few times actually but choose to let it go as it was our area. The bathroom was a nightmare for a clean freak like my sister. The tiles was yellowish. The toilets are not functioning properly, we need to flush using the bucket provided. The plus point is the staff was extremely helpful. She get us a driver, tell us where to eat and all that. The people there was nice too. Small town people, very warming. There are a bowling place and a bar nearby but they closed very early and we didn't get the chance to visit.

We stayed in a lot of hotels and these people are so incredible friendly. They helped us with everything they could. The room is quite okay. You have your own bathroom, tv and a desk. Also the bed is good! If you do not expect a 5 star hotel for the cheap price, you will enjoy. Location is 10 minutes walk to towncentre or just jump in every bus.
